+35 Streaming companies forget that their entire existence is based on being just a little more convenient than piracy, amirite?

He's a Jolly Good Fellow

by ProfessionalCup 3 weeks ago

Hey Ive already seen this one before

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

they never were more convenient though, account requirement + payment already makes it less convenient but reliability, quality and good UX can make up for that... unfortunately they never even try

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

They are more convenient for not so tech savvy people.

by Rowlandkutch 3 weeks ago

Yeah. Even as being a tech person I'd love a clean and transparent design philosophy, less clicks for my goal and overall good UX.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

that's what I aim for too, that's why I just can't stand Apple, Chrome, official streaming services and such

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

I like clean and easy to use UI, that's why I hate anything Apple does and basically every mainstream, popular app, they are ugly and hard to use because they lack basic features

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Well, there's a reason Apple design philosophy exists in everything in some way, shape, or form now…it's elegant and intuitive. But to each their own. There'll always be some naysayers.

what's more convenient than clicking the first link in google when you look for "watch title online"? definitely not having to go to the specialized website that lists the secret libraries of official services, THEN going to that official service, registering, adding a payment method (even if you're using free trial) and only then starting to watch

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

You go tell that to an old person, see how they fare.

by Rowlandkutch 3 weeks ago

I don't see my mom finding a way to watch anything on any of the official platforms but she easily handles others first google result just works and it never is official

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

haven't had any issues like that, though I'm sure basic internet hygiene if a form of uBO helps with that

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Which is something your average internet user doesn't know about

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Your mom isn't every old person. If she finds it easy to pirate, then good for her, but you know the type I'm talking about. To think that just because you or your immediate people finds it easy that means everyone does is very ignorant of you.

by Rowlandkutch 3 weeks ago

if clicking the first link on google is too complex then finding the official service that has the show they want to watch will be orders of magnitude worse though

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Alas, we will never agree on this.

by Rowlandkutch 3 weeks ago

I just see no way how someone intending to watch a specific show is ever going to land on an official service since they aren't indexable in any way so search engines will never point to them once you already have an account and it's your first place to look at it may work, but the initiation is way too steep

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

RealDebrid + Seren also lets me launch and pick whatever I want in under 30 seconds in 4K on a TV

by Capable-Airport9758 3 weeks ago

they don't pick what they want, they pick what's available, that's basically cable tv all over again with that approach they just give up when the show isn't there I assume?

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

What are you on about? If you do that, the first 10 results will not be even piracy versions but the official streaming sites… so you have to keep on clicking in the hopes of finally finding one that actually shows it in acceptable quality, and isn't some malware ridden fishing site.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

official sites aren't indexable and they never pop up in results and if the first 3 results aren't good it means the show isn't watchable at all

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

That's like... not true at all. It's obvious you havn't even tried doing what you suggest.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

"watch [insert show]" first result on Google, every single time, is a list of what streaming services the show is "Available On". How long you been using this line to advocate piracy over streaming? Time for an update, old man.

by junesmitham 3 weeks ago

and I just stream DRM free 1080p on any device I want without wondering which service and VPN to use to access it

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

The reliability, quality and good ux IS what makes it more convenient though… Account requirement and payment you literally set up once and never think about again, it doesn't make it less convenient at all…

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

tell me what services are you using that have even bearable UX and reliability because none of those I've tried I'd consider even usable netflix (web, UWP, android, android tv), CR (web, UWP), prime (web, android, android tv) are complete junk

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Sure there is some jank, but it really isn't that bad. At least not on my Apple TV. And all of them is miles better convenience then any piracy site. It can't really be more convenient then to just click and play and know all episodes will actually exist there with good quality, immediately.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

and none of the official services provide that it's so common only some episodes are there or even none at all, there was a time when so called netflix original was released on netflix months after the last episode aired on Japanese TV and was watched by most of the community, that's just nonsense also poor search, poor categorization and so on, some things may depend on the platform and may work better on apple tv than anywhere else, but things dependant on the database won't change, if a show shows up in categories it shouldn't it will on all platforms

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Sure, I'll give you that. If you're interested in niche movies and shows and shows from specific regions you dont live in, you'll find them easier and earlier in other places then the big streaming services. I wouldn't really call it more convenient though, its just that you have to go the extra mile to find your special interest at all. But for most people, watching mainstream series from their own region, it's really hard to beat the convenience of the big streaming services. I pirate stuff too, when it's not available on any of the streaming services I have. It's definitely not more convenient, but something I do if I really have to. And I'd never use any of the sites you'll find with google... That's just asking for trouble.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Google does a really good job here and I have no idea what services have you used to consider official ones better UX and more reliable, but seems you had really terrible experience on the pirating site I may be pretty spoiled because I focus on anime and it seems this land is really like a promised land for pirates but all the official services I've ever tried were bad enough to make even barely bearable pirating ones an upgrade I'm sure there are worse ones, but haven't seen these in ages

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

I think having better video quality and film not being interrupted by ads also falls under "being convenient"

by ursula90 3 weeks ago

that's what I get though, official services tend to not only start the episode with something from 2005 but also to not serve you the reasonable quality unless you use a device and software they specifically allowed to

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

seems you never actually tried, it can't get any easier than just clicking once and having what you want playing

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Absolutely officer, never torrented a thing in my life!

by DecentOpportunity713 3 weeks ago

Most people use phones with limited storage, so having apps for their streaming services made a lot of sense, you could watch it all wherever. +, trying to do that by yourself requires some time to research and put together, and most people don't have that

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

I think their existence is primarily based on being better than cable. Now that they've effectively killed cable they can go back to being worse.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

It's all minor impact, if you know how to, you'll get it yourself, if not, you'll buy the service you want. It's like saying restaurants & fastfood exist for being a little more convenient than grocery stores.

by Ok_Crow_6300 3 weeks ago

Are you implying that only people that don't know how to cook go to restaurants?

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

People who know how to cook can still find restaurants more convenient, from a time perspective. Restaurants exist because they are more convenient than cooking at home, if you can afford it.

by Proud-Tale-7196 3 weeks ago

I mean considering all streaming companies operate at a loss, i feel like they do get that,

by BunchThese 3 weeks ago

What? Netflix is profitable.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

You must not be dealing with Bally Sports

by kristaroob 3 weeks ago

Gone full circle now.

by Longjumping_Day7079 3 weeks ago

Stremio + Real Debrid = Streaming piracy $3/mo and it's also in a legal gray area. Not technically illegal in places where torrents are illegal and won't get shutdown by your ISP. The UI is super easy to use too.
