by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

by Large_Personality462 3 weeks ago

What? Why?

by jonathonstanton 3 weeks ago

Omg I just gave birth 11 days ago, and I would have been so unhappy if my husband sung happy birthday in the midst of my pushing. It went quickly and that was intense and painful. Afterwards it just wouldn't feel all encompassing enough. I deserved a ‘hip hip hurray, you're no longer pregnant today' song instead.

by durganbaylee 3 weeks ago

"Hey Carla?"\ confirms arm length\ "Your husband's stuck in the ice machine"

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

That's hilarious

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

I did it too. My wife was ok with it. It seemed appropriate.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

It takes awhile for her body to produce the chemical that makes them forget the labor pain. Until then you kind of just have to expect her every need and say "yes dear".

by gutmanngayle 3 weeks ago

Ever? I bet you're wrong.

by Ok-Proposal 3 weeks ago

Most likely. I know of one hospital that plays a brief midi style "happy birthday" song every time a baby is born in the building.

by Warm-Possibility 3 weeks ago

Our hospital does that. Except the whole song plays, gets really annoying.

by Outrageous-Catch2379 3 weeks ago

ya i'm havin a kid in a few days and you better believe he's gettin a song

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

My parents sang it to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Our hospital plays it throughout the hospital when a baby is born. Though just the melody, but have heard people sing along with it.

by Outrageous-Catch2379 3 weeks ago

Same. I would go to the hospital for random appointments, and it was just fantastic to hear that come on the PA.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

They should play Highway to Hell when someone dies.

by Livid_Bug_4834 3 weeks ago

They won't... they were "Distressed" by the suggestion of letting patients pick their death song...but it is a catholic hospital.

by Outrageous-Catch2379 3 weeks ago

That makes sense, especially if it was a sudden or accidental death. It would probably be too much for the staff to have something like "Happy" by Pharrell playing right after losing someone.

by Livid_Bug_4834 3 weeks ago

Especially if it's extremely tragic like a gunshot to the head.

by FlowPhysical 3 weeks ago

Had kids in 3 different hospitals(states), they all played a chime(though not the happy birthday melody). Pretty sure dont hear it throughout, just in the ward.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

No it definitely played in the ICU and ER....

by Outrageous-Catch2379 3 weeks ago

Speaking of the Birthday song, if you're ever feeling lonely just know there's a rover on Mars that is programmed to sing Happy Birthday to itself every year.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

That's the first thing I said to my kiddo when she was born.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

so cute. what a great memory for her.

by Trick_Marsupial2631 3 weeks ago

I know one doctor that has delivered likely thousands of babies and he always sings them happy birthday when they come out.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Exactly. It's literally the birth day. Every year after that is just the anniversary. People should sing "happy birthday" on the day they're born and then every year after that they should sing "happy anniversary of your birthday".

by RoadAny5167 3 weeks ago

You're confusing literal translation with actual definition. Are you equally confused when people refer to people who work in factories as factory hands?

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Yes.

by RoadAny5167 3 weeks ago

I promise you in your daily life you use words that have moved on from their literal definitions. The only difference is you're not aware of them.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

I promise you took his joke too seriously

by Predoviccitlall 3 weeks ago

I did. So did all the Dr's and nurses in the room too. It was cute. 10/10 would recommend

by makayla39 3 weeks ago

But many of them are still nameless. That messes with the lyrics.

by IntroductionIcy 3 weeks ago

🎶Happy birthday, dear baby🎶

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Everyone is too tired lol

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Obviously wrong. Quite a few couples actually do that when given the child. My aunt said so, she was an Obgy. My cousin and her husband did. Not sure if my brother and his wife did.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

More people should sing it to their moms. It was their birth day as well, no?

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Hmm, I don't know. Mom's GIVE birth. Meaning they don't have birth anymore. It's been given.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

He has to use that philosophy degree somewhere, right?

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

The nurses did to my babies when they were born it was beautiful

by Tough_Dimension 3 weeks ago

0 number candle finally helpful for that

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

That's because historically, birthdays are not a celebration of birth, but a celebration of surviving the year.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

And that's their only birth day, all the rest are anniversaries of the birth.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

No, but they sure as hell invite all their friends to the baby's 1st birthday party...

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

I did. It was his birthday.

by vitodonnelly 3 weeks ago

The weirder thing would probably be singing happy conception day haha

by Just_Development_140 3 weeks ago

I always make a Happy BirthING day for the mum on the baby's 1st birthday. The kid doesn't care, and she did all the work.

by Living_Iron 3 weeks ago

I know a nurse that does

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

No you're just an idiot making a sweeping assumption. This is pretty common

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

My wife is a labor and delivery nurse and sings it every time she helps deliver a baby.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

If you did then your first birthday would be your 2nd birthday, your 2nd birthday would be your 3rd birthday, etc. You'd be off by a birthday the rest of your life. This way when you turn 1, it's actually your first birthday.

by Shot_Philosopher 3 weeks ago

I haven't known people to confuse "birthday" with "date of birth."

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

i've heard of it happening plenty of times

by Trick_Marsupial2631 3 weeks ago

I need you to understand they don't understand English right out the womb

by jerdejoanie 3 weeks ago

And neither do 1 year olds, but we sing it on their first birthday just the same.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Our entire operating theatre did this for our boy when he was born. It was a beautiful moment.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

The surgeon who performed the c section for my son sang happy birthday to him.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

At ours there was a lot of shouting culminating in "Cut it out. I want it out". Just a little perspective for other first time parents who, like us, are thinking about opting out of pain meds because they'd prefer a natural birth.

by Cebert 3 weeks ago

i think that's more in part for the mother so she can recover from her ripped vagina.

by TemporaryBat5447 3 weeks ago

There's a difference between birth day, and birthday.

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

The day they are born isn't really a birthday. A birthday is the anniversary of their birth. Hence one year later is the first one

by Low-Cell-9847 3 weeks ago

It's literally the day of birth. lol it's definitely a birth day

by Candacehermisto 3 weeks ago

It's THE birthday!!

by Chester53 3 weeks ago

That'd mean that we turn 1 on our 2nd birthday

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Technically, it's the only birthday

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

That's because literal translation and meaningful definition are two different things. A birthday is the anniversary of one's birth regardless of how the term is literally translated. It's bizarre to me that nobody gets tripped up on this detail when you say ‘kitchen hand'

by Anonymous 3 weeks ago

Because it is not an anniversary. The song celebrates anniversaries.
