the Japanese giving kids a lot of freedom till around the age of 6, and then it get super strict and demanding. That doesn't appear to work - since they're killing themselves a lot, live alone a lot, don't marry, don't have kids. Okay. And what's your evidence it's that parenting approach that's leading to that adverse outcome? As opposed to say the myriad of far more obvious and likely culprits, such as its workplace culture, its overbearing culture of conformity and the concept of having two selves - one in public, one in private - where you can't express how you actually feel about something in front of people. All of those seem like far more likely factors than giving young children a degree of freedom in their early years.

Tough agree. I LOVE Japan's cultural exports, and the county is very beautiful! But people's work lives are in the toilet and domestically their culture revolves around work which is the total opposite of a functional society. Imo

People don't have kids because their economic situation is trash. Japanese work culture is horrendous and people's financial security is still poor.
