The gunfight at the O.K. Corral was in 1881. That wasn't even 150 years ago. The period we think of as the Old/Wild West ended in the 1910s.

And the anachronistic gunslinging was never really a thing outside of a few noteworthy outlaws. It was probably more like Little House on the Prairie.
