+29 Just because a food was created or popularized somewhere, doesn't mean that's the place it's best at. amirite?

Minneapolis is famous for their "Jucy Lucy", basically a hamburger stuffed with cheese. When I arrived here, my colleagues were so excited to take me to try the famous OG "Jucy Lucy". It was... meh. I've had better stuffed burgers elsewhere. Couldn't tell them that though. Had to pretend it was the absolute best thing ever. Despite being very, very mid.

It's probably the water, honestly. One of my friend's dad actually ships water from where he grew up for his pizza dough because the local minerals just adds a different flavor to the dough compared to using our local tap or distilled.

Most people here think the Jucy Lucy is meh. It's more a novelty than anything. I bring people to Matt's because it's a good bar for people to try something unique to us. Most regional (as in city specific) foods really aren't worth eating more than as a novelty.

Worst cheesesteak I ever had was from one of the "originals" in Philly. Pat's or Geno's, I forget which. Underseasoned, overcooked beef on a stale roll.

Yeah that sounds about right. The better places are most often local neighborhood places.

"Best" or "The one I like the most". Chinese food is adapted to the local palate everywhere in the world. Which one is best? That's a big depends. I see no reason that wouldn't be the same with Japanese food. I know I've had some "weird" meals in Tokyo. I still don't know what all of them were. (In word because they're of course very normal if you grew up with them)

Yes, it's true. I've had better Cuban food in LA than in Cuba. Better Moroccan food in Paris than in Morocco.

Exception…. Don't get poutine anywhere outside of Canada. But I agree otherwise

Foods going to test the best wherever you first tried it anyway. There's a reason why mommas cooking can't be beat. I don't get the point in arguing this.
