Anyone who's ever tried to fill an adderall prescription knows its not given out like candy

by Generalprice 1 month ago

That's just straight up incorrect

by Anonymous 1 month ago

As a (recently former) pharmacy technician, you're wrong. It's extremely easy all things considered, and we primarily gave out Adderall. I'm literally required to take a stimulant (different cause, but I literally cease to be able to do anything without it, far worse than someone with severe adhd), and it's really not hard. You get a single Dr to diagnose you, doesn't matter where or who, and all you need is for them to send it in every month. I know dozens of people around my age or lower who get diagnosed with adhd for no real reason other than they need help with college, and are then on stimulants like they'd die without them. It's far from as and as the opioid pandemic, but if we ever get out act together on stimulants, it'll be the same kind of drama with "wow, literally 90% of gps were prescribing it way more than necessary because the manufacturer told them to"

Yeah same issue here, between me, my wife and my son who takes Adderall and another medicine for his epilepsy, we have probably about 7 prescriptions in the house and Adderall is by far the most difficult one to get filled. It's not impossible or anything but it requires a monthly doctor's visit and they never fill more than a 30 supply

by MightClean1126 1 month ago

It's not easy to fill wtf are you talking about? I dread it every 30 days and it takes hours.

by Giovanna46 1 month ago

So you're saying that it's impossible for anyone who doesn't actually need adderal to get it?

by abel33 1 month ago

No, there's a wide range between "impossible to get" and "given out like candy."

by Generalprice 1 month ago

How do you guys read one sentence and then paraphrase that into something completely different?

by Odd_Cover4624 1 month ago

They completely ignored the fact that tou can get Adderall without a prescription. We don't live in a perfect world. Some people do break the law.

by abel33 1 month ago

Not impossible, but a huge PITA. Your PCPs will always question ‘whether you really need it', might require a blood and urine sample every single month, reduce your Rx from 30 days to 28 days, hint that they are ‘not comfortable' prescribing your established medication, suggest going off of it for something else, and so on. It can be incredibly patronizing to have a Vyvanse/Adderall prescription

by Anonymous 1 month ago

We are also kinda of shoving animals designed for long distance hunting and gathering into office cubbies and asking them to make spreadsheets. Are the cubbies temperature controlled and predator free? Yes. But that doesn't change some people's brains.

I don't take adderall but I do take Vyvanse for inattentive ADHD. I forget to take it all the time and then suffer through the day if it's too late in the day to take because of its long mechanism of action time. I don't know anyone abusing it and those who actually have ADHD don't get a "high" from it. There is no speed feeling. The biggest thing that's been life changing is not getting overstimulation and it's helped profoundly with task initiation.

by payton07 1 month ago

I have to say that Adderall is not distributed in my country, however I also take a different ADHD medication and I actually really do need it, too. Sometimes I'm like "why is my entire day a dumpster fire" until I remember that I didn't take my medication. It doesn't make me high either, just — able to handle anything in life. I also don't know anyone (who has a diagnosis and takes meds by prescription, idk about illegal use) abusing it.

by Baileynickolas 1 month ago

Well, they didn't when they started.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I've always felt disturbed they give it to patients that are so young like that. I'd never seek that as the solution. I also abused those for a long time and it caused permanent changes that I hate dealing with.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

i do agree - there is was an over diagnosis issue previously. However, screening and prescribing has come a far way and isn't easily given anymore. I have had ADHD my entire life. Vyvanse changed my life. i was diagnosed formally as an adult when i continued to struggle significantly with the same things, over and over, despite therapy, etc etc.

by mitchelwolff 1 month ago

How dare you question anyone's need for speed.

People love their uppers

by robertawolf 1 month ago

Maybe we try to change the system that makes people feel like stimulants is the only way to manage life as it is now

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Agreed, but the amphetamine zombies would take you down long before big pharmaceutical companies do.

by Fisherjoanne 1 month ago

I agree with you. I've been medicated since high school so to me it was just a pill I took and it helps me because my whole side of the family has neurodivergent issues. However once I entered university and saw how many people abused it made me unsettled. Seeing how easy it was for them to get a prescription to fake an illness for a stimulant? I've suffered with this my whole life, it felt like a slap in the face. I believe they have made it more difficult to get a prescription now so that gives me hope. I'm so tired of seeing these adhd tags with just these stereotypes people face.

I was able to get off my 60mg ER script about a year ago and have been fine since then. I agree with you OP

by Legitimate-Sun 1 month ago

Yeah it sucked for about a month, but I'm glad I'm off the stuff now

Welcome to America.

by No_Work 1 month ago

Seriously, just do cocaine like a normal person

by Anonymous 1 month ago

But I WANT Adderall!

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I don't blame you for saying this, this is the primary speed junkie defense at least in my experience but hey you don't need a meteorologist to tell you which way the wind is blowing...

by Fisherjoanne 1 month ago

These are 2 very different things.

by Odd_Cover4624 1 month ago

I was on adderall for years in my teens and years in my 20's. I swear that stuff messed up my brain permanently. It's legal amphetamine so it's really not good for you.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Same

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Yes I do

by Lila62 1 month ago

This is a widely held and popular misconception about ADHD medication.

by Myronhowell 1 month ago

A simple Google search would lead you to hundreds of similar, actually qualified, opinions from people in the appropriate fields. Guess I should never talk about any common sense problems ever again in my life because I'm not an expert. Got it. Good luck with your next come down.

by Fisherjoanne 1 month ago

100% agree. Adult ADD is something people come in daily seeking evaluation for.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

You are correct. And the funny part is how none of them will admit it. I would rather tell everyone that I just like how speed makes me feel rather than give myself a disability by concocting a bunch of mental illnesses.

by jensen72 1 month ago

..........yeah, probably
