People defend them because they aren't frozen before hand, but you can have fresh french fries that also don't have the consistency of chalk. If In N Out simply soaked the cut fries before frying them to get the starch out, they'd likely be so much better. I suspect 5 Guys does this because they have fresh fries too, and theirs are actually good. Shame 5 Guys is so overpriced.

Pretty popular opinion TBH. The proper way to eat them is to get them well done; otherwise, you're basically eating potato chips that look like fries
