-32 Nature in Europe is better than in USA, amirite?

"European nature doesn't catch fire the entire summer." *cries in Balkans*

There is unpopular and then there is factually wrong

Can you explain how a preference can be wrong?

Much of European "nature" is a tended garden. The biggest animals you'll find in Germany are foxes and roe bucks. The forests are clear cut in a checkerboard pattern. The Alps and Dolomites are pretty, but having parking lots and gondolas takes away from the nature.

If preference is X European thing is > X American thing then it is factually wrong.

by shemarkihn 10 months ago

Not sure if you're American or European and I admittedly have never been to Europe but as an American who has traveled much of America the way you describe it is completely wrong

by Anonymous 10 months ago

They're not American; you can tell by how the title is phrased. I'd guess European by the way they generalize the entire U.S. lol

by Anonymous 10 months ago

That was my guess too but Americans seem to love trashing America these days so you can never be certain

I'm American (Texas)

As a french, I kinda see the thing the opposite way..

European nature is less 'wild'. You can't go for an equally long distance without ending up in town after town, if not city. The Americas in general have a lot of untouched undamaged uninhabited wilderness. Kind of the whole reason so many Europeans went there. This opinion is strange and makes little sense. Say: European nature is better for vacation/sightseeing/tourists.

i agree with none of this

Someone confused the west coast with all of america again

50/50 chance of fire or smoke? I live in the Pacific Northwest and have had a grand total of zero fires or smoky days.

The fun thing about Europe is that you can point to one small segment of the US, ignore the rest, then compare it to a tiny part of Europe. You know what else the US doesn't have? Drones flying around trying to kill you and Russians wandering around your backyard.

I prefer Europe over the US in terms of culture, food, architecture, urban planning, values, etc. but if there is one thing you can't seriously claim is better in Europe, it's the nature. You've clearly never been to the US. It's not even in the same league. European nature is like 4 km² of forest surrounded by cities and farmland. US nature (that's also true for a few other countries in the Americas as a whole) is 100's or even 1000's of km² of untouched nature. Nothing in Europe comes close to US national parks besides maybe a few places in Norway.

No need for hyperbole. I agree that US nature is on a different scale but to say there's nothing more than 4km at a time in Europe is just daft. Even in the UK which has a really high population density there are areas of wilderness much larger than that.

by koeppzaria 10 months ago

You cannot see all of that untouched nature. Maybe if you're an experienced backpacker or biologist. Most people only get to enjoy a tiny portion, and Europe's are more scenic. US nature only makes sense if you're in a very specialized field.

the US has hawaii

Deranged and factually untrue opinion. I do like European legless lizards though.

Least ignorant europoor

by kassulkeelisabe 10 months ago

I don't rank nature. Nature is itself, beautiful and different in different places. /European
