+40 Every number is closer to zero than to infinity. amirite?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I'm closer to owning zero cars than owning an Infiniti.

by kianabotsford 1 week ago

I chuckled. Thanks

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Considering infinity is a concept and not a number, this goes without saying.

by Charlie75 1 week ago

I have a concept of a number

I have a plan of a concept of a number.

Every number is closer to zero than apple

by Anonymous 1 week ago

And we all know there's nothing conceptual regarding the idea of nothingness or the absence of a quantity.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

So is zero

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Infinitely closer to zero than infinity

by Anonymous 1 week ago

That's because infinity is a concept/idea and not a number.

by BrilliantGoat 1 week ago

What about a billion squared?

by BeginningAd7882 1 week ago

A billion squared is the only exception as it is greater than infinity.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

That doesn't sound right but I don't know enough about numbers to dispute it

by LiteratureAble 1 week ago

Is pretty small compared to stuff like grams number or TREE of 3.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It depends on how you want to define it. Since infinity isn't a number, let's represent it with an endless line of ducklings. If you added an extra quintillion ducklings to the front of the line, it would still be the same length. But, if you added a single extra duckling with the condition that it had to be at the end of the line, it actually would change the length of the line.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I mean yeah. If you ask how many numbers are between 1 and 2 (1.1, 1.11, etc.) there's infinite. If you ask how many numbers are between 1 and 3 it's still infinite, but also more.

by boscobrenden 1 week ago

Number + infinity is not a valid operation. You can only sum numbers with numbers. There is no value to the infinity.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

All numbers are concepts/ideas.

by haagmarlon 1 week ago

Four apples can exist. Infinity apples can't exist.

by Ready-Silver-3922 1 week ago

A lot of concepts can be represented by apples. They're still just concepts.

by haagmarlon 1 week ago

Not infinity + 1. Boom. Matheded!

by Anonymous 1 week ago

God dammit! That means I'm closer to never having sex again than always having sex.

by ChampionNo3145 1 week ago

Infinity, not being a number, yeah, I'd hope so lol

by Illustrious-Rub 1 week ago

What about infinity -1

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Still infinity. Which isn't a number.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I counted to infinity. Twice

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Found Chuck Norris' account.

by Time_Independent5030 1 week ago

That's still infinitely far from 2finity but only 1 away from infinity.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

No. Remember: there are multiple kinds of infinity. Counting backwards to zero will be just as fruitless as counting up from zero. You can go infinitely in either direction. This doesn't even take into account negative numbers.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Can you really count backwards? What's the previous number to infinite?

by Antique-Scientist 1 week ago

It doesn't matter. Any number is just as far from infinity as the preceding number.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Infinity-1

by Capable-Yogurt 1 week ago

All the numbers between 1 and 2 (ie 1.001, 1.0001, 1.0000001) which are infinite, are closer to zero than 3.

by GeneralInspector 1 week ago

1.6

by PlateAggressive7727 1 week ago

Boom. Mathematized.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

...Any of those numbers higher than 1.5 would be closer to 3 than 0. There are infinite numbers between 1 and 1.5, so there are infinite numbers closer to 0, but there are also infinite numbers between 1 and 2 that are closer to 3.

by ogleichner 1 week ago

Infinity isn't a number. Think of it as more like a filter or concept. 2 is closer to 3.333(so on) than it is to 0. 3.333(so on) is infinite. It goes on for infinity.

by Ondrickabraxton 1 week ago

Because infinity is a symbol to represent some to keep on doing something or going forever but infinity is mainly used in math, not coding because they have if (something) then (do something)

Yes, sure, banana is big, but it's peel is bigger

by Vegetable_Heart_2037 1 week ago

Infinity minus one is one closer to zero than it is to infinity

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Depends how you write them. If you allow p-adic numbers then you can get fun results. Veritasium has a great video about them. But the idea is that you can have numbers with infinitely many non-zero digits that are the same as classical numbers. For reciprocals of whole numbers, this is really easy. You just have to find the number such that, when it gets multiplied by your whole number, the result is 1 with infinitely many zeros in front of it. For example, this is the last 100 digits of 1/7 in base 10, though it goes on forever: 7142857142857142857142857142857142857142857142857142857142857142857142857142857142857142857142857143 So, does that mean that 1/7 is infinitely big?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Heck every number is closer to its inverse than it is to infinity (and negative infinity for negative numbers)

by chadkeebler 1 week ago

Someone never got to limits in calculus

by emanuel01 1 week ago

there's an infinite amount of numbers between 0 and 1, I think you're always closer to infinity

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Infinity isn't a number, it's a concept.... so, it's not even possible for it to be close to anything.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

What if you divide infinity by 0

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I think thats not true. Because 0 is nothing, and existence is as far from nothing as possible. For example, it would be like saying youd have an easier time digging half a hole rather than digging 10000000 holes. There is no such thing as a half hole, wither you dug a hole or you didn't.

by Designer-Marketing 1 week ago

Depends on which infinity you are referring to. There is an infinite quantity of numbers between 2.0000 and 3.0000, and so 3 is closer to that infinity than zero.

by Last_Bodybuilder 1 week ago

Except decimal infinity, 0.333333.... is definitely closer to 0 than 1 is

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Nu uh, not infinity plus 1.

by Kiarrakris 1 week ago

There are an infinite amount of numbers between zero and one.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

No. Infinity isn't an amount. Put down the bong.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Which infinity are we talking about?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Every number is closer to zero than to the color purple… Basically the same thing because you're not comparing a number with a number…

by Fit_Telephone 1 week ago

Infinity isn't a number, it's a concept.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Every number is closer to 0 than infinity, considering infinity is not a number.

by Kylee19 1 week ago

Every number is closer to every other number than it is to infinity. Infinity is a concept.

by Electrical-Chest 1 week ago

infinity is closer to zero than infinity+1. infinity is a concept, not an exact number.

I'm too baked for this.

by RegularEither3768 1 week ago

Yep, and Mercury is closer to the Sun than Neptune.

by Urutherford 1 week ago

Wrong. The halfway point is 17.

by Ok-Risk 1 week ago

What if it's an infinity at zero?

by Manley88 1 week ago

Yes, that's the point of Infinity.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

saw this on tiktok today

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I don't think inifinity exists. All infinities are just loops, whether a circle or sphere.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

That's not true if you count the negatives. Then every number is always the middle.
