+36 Neither Timothee Chalamet nor Anya Taylor Joy are good actors, they just consistently get cast in great movies, amirite?

Why do you think the movies are good if the actors suck? Maybe the actors make the movies good

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Yeah exactly lmao. Especially the lead. If the movies great the leads are at least good.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I agree. People get too hung up on "great acting". But no one really cares, just be good enough

by Embarrassed_Mall 2 months ago

Man you know you've made it as an actor when people constantly say you're overrated.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Huh, I actually agree. I am not a fan of the Dune movies and a big part of it is because of how bland I find Chalamet in it. Joy isn't too bad imo, but maybe a bit overhyped.

Maybe it's on the director or character? Because I've heard chalamet wanted to give more energy but Denis told him to not.

I'll give my verdict on him once I see how he plays Bob Dylan. I'm not a fan of his as of right now.

Part of being a good actor is choosing the right roles.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Isn't he a nepo baby? He will be cast in stuff even if his head falls off.

Timothee Chalamet's Wonka was awful. He just came off like a guy at a Halloween party.

The music industry is like this too. The masses are told what you like and the ones that can't think for themselves mindlessly just go with it.

I don't know anything about acting, but it seems to me like great acting may not actually illicit the response "Wow, what great acting!" The reason I think this is that if you perceive someone's acting as great acting, it means you perceived it as acting, meaning they didn't fully sell you on the character.

by yledner 2 months ago

I always felt they were force fed into the "a-list," with, like you said, consistent roles in great movies.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

There really aren't that many great actors. Most of it seems to me that people just have to like seeing you on screen. Thats why acting is the second career of famous musicians and athletes.

chalamet is 6-8/10 depending on the role, anya is 3-7 imo.. she was absolutely god awful in mad max

by Stunning-Load 2 months ago

If they are fine in movies, then they are good actors. Just not great actors.

by Entire-Technician 2 months ago

They're actors.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Yes but you have seen bad actors. Watch a commercial.

by Entire-Technician 2 months ago

Yes, but not being bad doesn't make you good. I'm not a good person because I never committed genocide. I'm just a person.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Acting is a skill, so being able to deliver lines and make it sound convincing would be the sign of a good actor.

by Entire-Technician 2 months ago

I don't think meeting the absolute bare minimum is "good". Maybe we have different definitions, but I expect a good actor to be... Good.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

This example doesn't work, one has to actively work on being an actor to get better, you not committing genocide is irrelevant unless you are fighting the urge to in fact commit genocide.

Chalamer, comes across to me, as someone trying very hard or too hard to be a serious actor. Which isn't a bad thing necessarily, he's got a long ways to go, we shall see how he turns out. He's picked up some great roles. I like Anya Taylor Joy, but I cant say I have much of an opinion of her. She's beautiful and seems to have talent, and again she is also very young. I haven't been turned off by anything she has done so far though.
