-34 "hey" is a completely valid message to send someone when first texting them, amirite?

by Anonymous 9 months ago

If you say hey, they say hey and you say something else after that, why not just skip the hey hey?

by Beautiful_Anteater94 9 months ago

same reason i say hello to a complete stranger before i start talking at them like a jehovah's witness,

In real life, it makes sense to use filler words to get their attention so you don't risk saying something without them realizing you were talking to them. In text, they know whatever you type is directed at them.

If you say hey, im going to see it and ignore it until your next message. Just skip the formalities. Why is this so hard.

by Anonymous 9 months ago

I disagree. I find it disrespectful to pop up in my DMs without saying hi/hey first, especially when we haven't spoken in awhile. The gesture is nice so I don't see what the problem is. You don't have to reply back with the same formality if you don't want to, but that's just me. 🤷🏽‍♂️

You should start with hey, but that shouldn't be the end of the message. Don't dick around and get to the point

by Anonymous 9 months ago

The fact that your name has the word 'lazy' in it is very fitting

by Anonymous 9 months ago

i mean i would introduce myself after said "hey", i don't just leave it at "hey". but you can't just skip steps and know someone immediately

If you reply then they write down "this is a valid phone number, let's send them more spam" There is a whole data sharing economy to the scammers. It's like feeding trolls if you reply. But go for it I suppose

by One_Profit_4736 9 months ago

Of course it's valid and fine to say.

He's talking about dating apps probably. What he doesn't understand is a typical woman gets like 100 messages a day. So him not getting a response from hey isn't some kind of personal insult against him. Women just don't have time to respond to everyone

hey

by Hwilderman 9 months ago

You're not totally wrong, but it's almost 100% probable that you are literally one of a hundred giving a generic hey how are you. Assuming you're talking about dating apps, they are trash and detrimental for many people, creating all kinds of weird expectations assumed and real, as well as unnecessary anxiety from things as simple as saying "hello".

by stokesmercedes 9 months ago

I totally agree! It's a perfectly valid opener. Like how often do you walk up to someone and without preamble ask them a random icebreaker. Just say hi first it's fine.

i'm so tired of feeling like i need to impress and entertain other people to be deserving of their attention. You don't need to impress or entertain me...just respect my attention and don't bait it with orphaned "Hey" or "Whats up"

by Trey68 9 months ago

Could use a noun or pronoun, like "hey asshole".

by Anxious_Weight_738 9 months ago

Hahaha. It's just funny that now we've all become too lazy to communicate with each other with anything but text, and now anything more than "hey" is exhausting lol

by Realistic-Case5518 9 months ago

It does seem like people get annoyed when you say hey first but I don't understand it..

by Anonymous 9 months ago

"Hey" is as cliché and effortless of a first reply as it can get, as is "How are you?" or "How is your day?" It implies the person has no personality or lacks the confidence to think of a more clever opening message.

Straw...

by Due_Inspection 9 months ago
