+42 Fries with Ketchup is a terrible combo, amirite?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Sweet and salty is just that good of a combo.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Salty and acidic, as well. There's a reason salt & vinegar is a popular flavor for chips and fries in some places.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Well, then try mayo! Delicious! 🤤

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Isn't this the preferred way in France? If it isn't, it should be.

by Lanky-Cup5874 8 months ago

Dude already said he likes ranch, that's just seasoned mayo

by Anonymous 8 months ago

mayo is eggs and oil, ranch has neither of those

by Mrazisaias 8 months ago

This is the way

by Wadeschultz 8 months ago

This is just terrible

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Terrible lol

by Anonymous 8 months ago

It's really not. But the best way is mixing ketchup and mayo and eating it with the pink sauce

by Chemical-Emu 8 months ago

Welp. You're in the right forum at least.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

The only thing that goes with ketchup is the supermarket shelf, where it should stay.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Proper opinion.

by hodkiewiczmurie 8 months ago

Firstly - fries should automatically be salted before serving. Secondly - you kinda answered yourself. The sweetness and acidity of ketchup are perfectly complimentary to the greasy saltiness of fries.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

A nice, thick blue cheese dressing with fries is life changing.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Even more amazing on sweet potato fries. I even add Gorgonzola crumbles to the dressing to amp it up.

by Foreign_Canary_4152 8 months ago

That's my wife's jam. Sweet potatoes + (some variety of) blue cheese.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Blue cheese has mould in it

by Additional_Inside690 8 months ago

Fries with malt vinegar, who's with me?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Classic

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Vinegar?😭 oh nah

by Gleichnercyril 8 months ago

That's why I do it the way my wife's family does it (...from the Netherlands); with mayonnaise. It sounds weird until you try it. I do, however, mix with a bit of ketchup.

by Best-Phrase 8 months ago

Dutch mayo is next level tho, its the superior combo for sure, but like you i find ketchup great from time to time!

by Few-Discussion-6063 8 months ago

100%, it's barely mayo by US standards. I would import it by the gallon if I could, lol. I just wish I could find a half decent Dutch fry, too. 🙃

by Artistic_Treacle 8 months ago

My wife buys the Dutch mayo, but it's too rich tasting for me. I just use Hellmann's or even that cheap Japanese Kewpie mayo.

by Best-Phrase 8 months ago

Mayo mixed with ketchup is so goated, yum

by Gleichnercyril 8 months ago

Is mayonaise and fries a weird combo in the rest of the world? What?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I'm Dutch and definitely judged for it in the states

by Artistic_Treacle 8 months ago

The Netherlands chiming in 👊🏻

by Anonymous 8 months ago

✨RANCH ✨

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Definitely unpopular. Your opinion is irrelevant, since you like ranch. Yuck.

by Upper-Message2145 8 months ago

The way you feel about ketchup on fries, is how I feel about ranch on fries. Also, sweet and salty is a classic taste combo.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Nothing tastes better with ranch. Ranch tastes like the sweaty sock of a morbidly obese diabetic.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

And it's a billion calories

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Why you eating my auntie's socks?

by ImpressiveBeyond 8 months ago

And it's a billion calories.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Trash condiment

by hodkiewiczmurie 8 months ago

Good ranch, or better yet homemade ranch, is solid for a few things. But yeah, most store bought ranch isn't very good. I don't know if it's THAT bad, but it ain't good.

Good ranch, or better yet homemade ranch, is solid for a few things. But yeah, most store bought ranch isn't very good. I don't know if it's THAT bad, but it ain't good

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I agree fries only need salt.

by Optimal_Audience8665 8 months ago

Fries and mayo are the real flex

by aimeetromp 8 months ago

Found the Belgian.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Fries with tartar sauce are lowkey better

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Best combo.

by hodkiewiczmurie 8 months ago

Yes. What is it with Americans and ranch

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I'm a non-American. Ummm, what's a "ranch"?

by Master-Pollution 8 months ago

Revel in your blissful ignorance ;)

by Anonymous 8 months ago

My favorite is with ranch, but I'm stupidly picky about my ranch. If I can't get the ranch I want, it's 100% mayo. It never disappoints.

by ImpressiveBeyond 8 months ago

As an adult I've never really used ketchup for anything. It just makes whatever you're eating taste like ketchup. Ketchup is pretty disrespectful to a good burger.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

AWFUL take. +1

by Karlee01 8 months ago

Are you from Mars? Fries and ketchup are for Earthlings. It's probably recorded somewhere in Gilgamesh. 🙂

by Optimal_Airline 8 months ago

It's ok combo but I prefer chili

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Salty and sweet is one of the most insidious and addicting flavor combinations there is. VERY difficult to resist for a lot of people and its why McDonalds puts the combo of sugar and salt into everything they make. Fries, burgers, all of it.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Ever had chocolate covered potato chips? Heavenly stuff.

by Foreign_Canary_4152 8 months ago

Your taste is just a habit grown from very young days. Are you trying to act superior cuz you don't like ketchup alongside your french fries ? Who gives an F what others like.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

It's because you're not using Heinz

by Spurdy 8 months ago

Fries + francesinha sauce

by Defiant_Moment_7785 8 months ago

They should really ban food stuff on here. They are low effort and who cares what others like to eat?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Agreed, but I just hate ketchup, I'd rather have mustard on it, and mustard isn't even that good in fries

by Matildaberge 8 months ago

You're a troll. Get outta here with this made up nonsense.

by CharacterNeck 8 months ago

I have always felt that if your fries need ketchup then they aren't good fries.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I might agree there is much better sauces/seasonings. But ketchup is ok, the contrast is nice.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Sriracha> Kewpie>

by SuddenPossibility243 8 months ago

For fries - Mayo > ketchup

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I was with you in this until you said ranch

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Tomato, sugar and vinegar. Sounds great with fries.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Personally I don't like fries because it feels like I'm mostly using them to eat ketchup with. Most of the time it just tastes bland. I'm open to anyone who has a good idea what to do with them though

by Anonymous 8 months ago

And this goes out to everyone here, SEASON YOUR DAMN FRIES

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Ranch? You disgust me

by Anonymous 8 months ago

The ultimate fry dip is tartar sauce! I do love ranch and ketchup, though, as well 🤷‍♀️

by Interesting-Tie 8 months ago

It's a very good and popular combo, so you're objectively wrong, but excellent unpopular opinion👏👏👏

by Anonymous 8 months ago

A better unpopular opinion would be fries taste better with warm tomato juice instead of ketchup or with fresh cut tomatoes with them. Now theres a disagreeable opinion. 😎

by Kindly_Masterpiece 8 months ago

I agree with this so much. I eat my fries without any condiments.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Thick cold ketchup is the trick Warm ketchup is a travesty

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Agreed. Stadium Secret Sauce is much better.

by Hillldeshaun 8 months ago

NGL... I actually agree with this to an extent. I loathe using the store bought or fast food ketchups. However, I have made my own that was actually much better as the sweetness and acidity was lessened.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Don't eat it then, easy as that

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Ketchup in general is a boring condiment. So many better options.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Ranch is king

by hansdooley 8 months ago

Not ranch, mayo

by Due_Jackfruit 8 months ago

A Big Mac is a Big Mac but they call it Le Big Mac.....

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I actually dislike ketchup altogether so ketchup and anything is a bad combo, although sometimes I add a little to a sauce I'm mixing though I can get about the same effect in the sauce with vinegar

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I agree. It's not bad but the chips are just better without the ketchup. I find the ketchup overpowers the fries. But I assume that people who like it just really like ketchup and the fries are just a ketchup delivery method. I quite like my hot chips with vinegar, personally, which does have the same problem (vinegar overpowers) the main difference is that I like vinegar more than ketchup, and apparently drinking vinegar straight isn't the best idea.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I agreed with you up to the ranch part 🤢 Try mayo or... BBQ

by Wadeschultz 8 months ago

Bbq

by alvenamcglynn 8 months ago

I wouldn't say terrible, but ketchup is not my first or second or even third pick for a fry dipping sauce. The best one will be the Icelandic kokteilsósa (cocktail sauce)

by wilkinsonbarton 8 months ago

I love fries with blue cheese. Ranch is ok too.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I mean, I always ask how can people enjoy eating nasty fried potatoes covered in rocks? But that's just me.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I like my fries with a nice brown gravy, always have.

by PersonalityFair 8 months ago

Salt AND pepper!?!!? Pump the brakes you madman!

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Ketchup kills the flavor of anything it touches.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

sriracha is better

by Hot_Wolverine 8 months ago

Also a ranch/fries person. Ketchup just doesn't do it for me for french fries.

by karley96 8 months ago

Honestly I couldn't agree more. All they need is salt imo.

by Master-Pollution 8 months ago

I agree (not a fan of ketchup)

by Anonymous 8 months ago

The only thing ketchup is good for is making other sauces

by Ok-Let6591 8 months ago

I agree. I also don't like the moments where I squeeze a ketchup packet only to get a bit of water squirting out onto my plate.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Fries and mayo or fries and vinegar is the best

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Wow here we go. Most unpopular opinion I've ever seen. OP probably hates breathing or something too.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

That's an unpopular opinion.

by Silly-Ebb297 8 months ago

I don't use ketchup, not because I don't like it, but because I like the taste of the fried potatoes and salt more. ketchup just covers it up

by BothYellow 8 months ago

Cool so don't eat em that way.

by Dry-Manufacturer 8 months ago

Ketchup goes on burgers, eggs, steak and cheese. That is all.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I'm so glad you didn't say hot dogs

by aimeetromp 8 months ago

Mustard on a hot dog is the correct way

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Why would you choose to ruin perfectly good eggs and steak?

by Master-Pollution 8 months ago

Weirdly, I only like ketchup on scrambled eggs.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

When you say "fries" do you mean those pre-frozen pale, tasteless chemical-soaked processed potato sticks they sell at most restaurants? Those abominations need all the help they can get. But freshly cut potatoes, deep-fried and salted, are good without dumping on condiments, yes.

by Educational_Copy8681 8 months ago

What is ranch sauce? What's it taste like? It doesn't exist in many places I've been in the UK. Does it taste like the Doritos that come in blue packaging (Cool Ranch)?
