I blame the bullet proof suits. They used them like a crutch more and more for his invincibility rather than just rely on him having good tactics and skill.

The first was a breath of fresh air. The second and third are more of the first, so i can see how it could be boring. The fourth basically rejuvenates the series for me. Lots of creativity in the lighting, cinematography and choreography.

Personally I really liked the 4th one. Had some great effects and scenes. The thing to remember about the Wick movies, imo, is that they're not meant to be some super story driven high cinema. I love them because I can just turn my brain off and watch cool gunfu scenes without thinking too hard about the hows and whys.

I agree with you that the first one is a clean cut. Its the most round movie of them. But all of the others have so many cool, creative and entertaining scenes that i still enjoyed them, especially the 3rd one. They are all no perfect movies but if you just want fun and enjoy hard, handmade action then John Wick, no matter what part, is a good grab.

I totally agree. Once they decided to unveil the things we didn't know about the assassin underworld, it just became kinda goofy. Having it all left unknown made the world feel like that scary boogey man bedtime story and it made the fact that he was powering through it alone that much cooler. I do still like the action, but the more they reveal, the worse the world feels.

Yeah the first John Wick was the best one by far. IMO the 2nd one did manage to pull off a universe expansion without it seeming too forced, but from there it took a nosedive IMO.

I also don't think these movies really lend themselves To binging. They're basically extended action sequences that don't really divert until the fourth movie. So watching them as they released was great for bursts of awesome action. But one after another I could see getting tedious.

I've seen scenes out of the fourth one. They were uninteresting enough to make me not want to see the full product. So yeah. I didn't feel bored watching the first one. For me, burning your finger in a candle flame is enough to know that you shouldn't stick your hand into the bonfire.
