I had conversations like this when traveling abroad where people told me they like American tourists for the reasons you listed. It's nice to be nice!

My dad told me, "when you leave your country, you are now an ambassador. You represent everyone back home"

When I lived in China I found that tons of Chinese strangers would talk to you out of the blue. Its a nice feeling to meet people that are curious. I think Americans that deserve the reputation they get, never actually leave their home town or state for more than a day

I definitely tip wherever I am. People assume I'm a Chinese or Korean tourist until I open my mouth.

I generally agree. My only problem with American tourist is that they expect everyone to speak English to them, on high level and everywhere. In my experience, if someone doesn't speak English they'll act incredibly surprised, annoyed and start complaining about it. I live in S.Korea and 90% of Americans I met always complained that cafe workers can't speak English, most people don't want to speak English as they're shy/afraid, small libraries don't have English book and that everything is not in English in general xd

This is true, though in fairness in Europe (which were the specific American tourists the op referenced) basically everyone expects everyone to speak English. I see it constantly - non-native English speaking tourists use it as a default without even trying the local language.

I think people just like to find reasons to hate America. That's been my experience as an American tourist, everyone likes me but when we get into conversations they want to bring up everything bad and negative about America. And they call us racist, it's almost an unknowing validation of American exceptionalism. People are the same everywhere in my experience, why act like "Americans" are different.

I just did 5 months around Europe and in a crowd of 1000 people you'll hear exactly what the one American is saying.. they're loud But I made heaps of American friends on my trip

Yep, Chinese are the worse by far

I read that Americans are heard before they are seen. I will take that criticism

As someone who works on public transport in Europe. On popular tourist routes. Most of the time it's the Americans who are the most entitled and a pain in the arse.
