-33 Having a "lead foot" does not make for a bad driver, amirite?

by Bernhardcharlot 5 months ago

You not having been in an accident does not mean youre a good driver.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

And never having been in a collision (they don't call them accidents anymore, and for good reason) doesn't even mean you've never caused an accident or collision.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

With the qualifications some people are using to classify themselves as a "good driver", I'd say this is one metric that actually holds some weight..... Lol

by Specialist-Ant-5462 5 months ago

Depends on how much driving we're talking about. Without other data, I'll take the person who hasn't caused accidents over the person who has.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

"at fault" accident, to boot. I know people who are aggressive drivers that have conveniently placed themselves in the "wrong place at the wrong time," multiple times. They are technically not at-fault in all of these accidents, but somehow they keep getting into them hmmmm. That is to say, you can be a bad driver (which includes risky driver) while still not getting into at-fault accidents.

by kemmerurban 5 months ago

When in motion, try to use the brakes as little as possible. Use engine braking as much as possible. A good driver, fast driver, smooth driver, safe driver, and a sensitive driver are all different things and they often can't always coexist. Know when to be each one.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

If someone says you have a lead foot it's because they feel unsafe when riding with you. Making people feel unsafe with your driving is not something a good driver does.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I've had people say it who have never been in a car with me.

by Bernhardcharlot 5 months ago

So they've just seen you drive and it makes them feel uncomfortable? That doesn't seem better.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

More-so pulling out of a parking lot. They meant that hit the gas hard

by Bernhardcharlot 5 months ago

Why are you arguing, you are literally confirming his repeated point.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Why are you doing a pull out of a parking lot my bro?

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Try letting the car's normal acceleration get you out of a parking spot to help with it

by AdOriginal1883 5 months ago

So what exactly does it mean to you to have a lead foot? Also how long have you been driving without any tickets? My cat has never gotten a ticket or been in an at-fault accident either.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I've never cut my finger with a carving knife but that doesn't mean I'm a good chef

by Ill_Vermicelli 5 months ago

Then you're not cooking enough. Great cooks cut themselves plenty.

by Bernhardcharlot 5 months ago

thats like you saying a great driver crashes plenty

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Which is true if you're a race car driver. Not a guy with a civic and an exhaust going to walmart

by Mundane_Handle 5 months ago

I'm not well versed in the world of racing but my initial suspicion is that racing ability is not determined by frequency of crashing either

by WiseMechanic 5 months ago

Strongly agree

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Speeding is dangerous. Please slow down

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Never said I was speeding.

by Bernhardcharlot 5 months ago

That's what lead foot means

by Anonymous 5 months ago

That's what having a lead foot means. How are you using the term?

by ReviewTop 5 months ago

Having a lead foot will make you a bad driver even in racing. (On the contrary, being called a "lead foot" by someone, does not) Uae your brain, think for yourself and for all other drivers around, anticipate their moves assuming they're blind and focused on kids in the backseat, remain calm and precise, don't rush, remain fully aware what's going on around you, make smooth moves that will let other drivers instinctively sense your intentions. And remember that Juan Manuel Fangio said that you should drive as slow as possible to win in races. Doesn't it sound like exact opposite of lead foot?

by Vegetable-Cup-2425 5 months ago

Well the criticism I've received doesn't correlate to this definition of a lead foot. My understanding is that it's getting to proper speed more quickly and braking later than others might brake if they were driving.

by Bernhardcharlot 5 months ago

You suck for endangering the lives of other people on purpose.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Not speeding, not weaving, not tailgating, not cutting people off. So how am I endangering peoples lives?

by Bernhardcharlot 5 months ago

Lead foot generally means speeding

by Anonymous 5 months ago

"Generally" is the key term. But the lead foot is really a bigger description than that. Especially if you ask a driving instructor.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

The colloquial term "lead foot" literally means driving faster than what is standard

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Yes, and that does not mean speeding. It means accelerating too fast, decreasing speed to quickly, as well as speeding but also changing lanes to quickly, etc.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

The things you've just described are dangerous, as I initially said.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Indeed, I was agreeing with you. Disagreeing with OP.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

How good you are at road driving is directly correlated to how efficient you are capable of running your vehicle. Having a lead foot means something if you're on a race track. That's it

by Elegant_Feedback_197 5 months ago

Having a lead foot doesn't mean you're speeding.

by Bernhardcharlot 5 months ago

"Lead foot" is an informal term that refers to someone who drives too fast, especially on a regular basis.

by ReviewTop 5 months ago

That's not what his point was... smh

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Just cuz a person has paid for home insurance for 30 years and never used it doesnt mean that their house wont burn down someday. You just wait til that day a 7 year old boy walks out in front of your car. It may ir may not be be your fault but you'll live with it for the rest of your days every night when you close yiur eyes. Up to you...

by krysteljones 5 months ago

I'm not speeding, and I don't drive with a "lead foot" in residential zones. I'm talking highways, 80km/hour or more. I'm not an idiot.

by Bernhardcharlot 5 months ago

Almost all your responses contradict other responses you made...

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Not obeying the rules of the road is exactly the kind of thing that makes someone a bad driver. Moreover, the more insistent someone is that they're a good driver is another great indication they're delusional.

by Next_Ad1313 5 months ago

Have to say I disagree with your second statement. And I do obey the rules of the road. I'm referring to getting to proper speed faster than others do, when it's safe to do so. Not speeding, not riding the car in front of me, not swerving.

by Bernhardcharlot 5 months ago

So you're saying that getting poor gas mileage makes you a good driver? Because that's what happens when you accelerate and decelerate quickly

by Roobkarolann 5 months ago

Just, go slow in parking lots and on residential streets. You can assure yourself that you're going a safe speed and are in control, but any pedestrians that are nearby might clinch up if you're driving too fast. Ultimately, how other people perceive your driving is more important.

by Otherwise-Bread8653 5 months ago

More of a reckless / selfish / ignorant / dangerous driver

by Extension_South 5 months ago

Tell us you drive like an asshole without telling us you drive like an asshole.

by Consistent_Figure 5 months ago

you should talk to my mother..

by Doylelloyd 5 months ago

There really isn't much discussion about driving when I'm with your mother.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Haha why??

by Bernhardcharlot 5 months ago

I don't even know what that phrase means.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

It means that you speed. Your foot is heavy on the gas. Because it's made of lead.

by ReviewTop 5 months ago

You are a lucky bad driver.

by Kmorissette 5 months ago

So we can all agree that OP is a bad driver. If people around you consistently say it's bad driving, then it's bad driving.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Driving slow is more dangerous than speeding.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

It literally makes you a bad driver. You're very confused and definitely in the wrong.

by Vandervortkadin 5 months ago

Quickly slowing down and speeding up is bad for your brakes, gas mileage, and comfortability of your passengers. Also quickly braking on congested roads is the primary source of why traffic occurs, even if there is no collision.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I'm going to argue that it's not ME that has a lead foot, it's just my car likes to go FAST!

by Anonymous 5 months ago

There's unpopular opinions… And then there's idiotic opinions like this one.

by No-Barnacle1520 5 months ago

I agree, also have a led foot and am a very good driver

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Your foot lights up?
