Some people aren't able to drink without a straw you know. Dental surgery, sensitive teeth a couple of examples.

Paper straws are filled to the brim with forever chemicals, and those leach out like crazy. So it's unhealth. Also, people with health problems may need a straw.

Listen man, if I'm at home I just sip from a cup like a normal human. When I'm at a fast food place I'm given a cup with a lid and a paper straw, while I'm in the restaurant for sure I can sip the cup but that's not great while driving as tipping the cup back will obscure my vision, with a straw I can just pick the cup up, sip and put back with my eyes never leaving the road. I don't care about the damn straws that much, I more care about the forever chemicals the things are made with, to a lesser extent they dissolve quickly and the prongs from the lid dig into the straw making it worse, especially with McDonald's Iced Coffee.

Companies can also buy good paper straws. I've used some that feel just like plastic but are paper. They're just expensive iirc. A coffee shop by me has them.

i can't have ice touching my teeth. it's also really inconvenient trying to walk with a to-go paper cup of coke or whatever without a lid on it so i could drink from it without a straw, not to mention having a lidless cup in a cupholder of your car while driving or trying to remove the lid to take a sip while the car is moving. a proper straw doubles as a stirrer which is needed with many drinks. lastly, why are some people (like you) trying to ban adults from convenience/fun/joy? "you're an adult now, drink without a straw." "you're an adult now, eat food you find disgusting." "you're an adult now, cartoons are not for you." what's next? no mugs with handles anymore, burn your hand like an adult?

ESG seems intent on reducing the functionality of things that previously worked well to be useless. But out of all the downgrades paper straws are the biggest travesty absolutely awful, id prefer no straw at all. It also should be noted it takes much more carbon emissions to produce them.
