+46 Dune 2 isn't a great movie, amirite?

by hilmakunze 1 month ago

Dune 2 is only good for people who read the book because they know the struggle that is missing between the scenes. But for anyone else, it's a pretty, very pretty, boring movie. Most people who watched the movie, enjoyed it and haven't read the books so this is just you. Also none of the tensions between the main characters get resolved quickly, and those are one of the main focuses of the story.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

well.... that's kind of the point. the actual tension is within the characters, not within the plot. him becoming the messiah causes a jihad that kills billions. honestly, it's one of the greatest science fiction films ever made and people who don't like it are probably just dumb

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Nah, it's really not. You enjoyed it cause you read the book and you were already invested in the story.

by hilmakunze 1 month ago

The visuals were cool but I didn't think it was well cast

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Visually stunning. But by God, was I bored.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

That's because the movie is too humble to admit that's it's a great movie

I like the first one better that speech he gives where he completely silences all dissent was hauntingly powerful. I don't think the second one has moments like that, that were on par.

I also liked part 1 more.

I think it's a great movie but don't think it's as good as Part 1. I would have understood if it hadn't been nominated. My grievances aren't really the same as yours although they're related. The main problem for me was the pacing. Everything felt very rushed and I walked out of the cinema (having read the books after watching Part I) thinking they should have done three films. It felt like they did all this fantastic setup it Part 1 and then had to cram a lot into Part 2. I also wasn't a huge fan of some of the character and story changes but it's an adaptation so these things are often necessary for a variety of reasons. Overall, I still think it's a great movie.

Dune 3 is already in the works, definitely wouldn't have made sense to leave part 2 with the cliffhanger like that. Especially since not everyone has read the novels or knows the full story.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I mean that the first book should have been three films, IMO, in order to avoid cramming too much into the second film. But I'm very excited to see how they adapt Messiah.

by gulgowskiemilia 1 month ago

This - part 2 was entertaining and exciting, but part one was the more artistic, mysterious, tone setting film.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I didn't care for the first one tbh

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I mean if you don't want tension to be resolved so quickly then the movie will be very long (4 hrs +). And people already think it's long. They had to cut some scenes (such as learning to ride the sandworm from stilgar).

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Do it like the rest of them with a trilogy and pace it correctly then. This felt like it was rushed to get as fast as possible to the end while ticking all the story checkboxes.

No one's gonna watch a three movie of dune. This ain't some big IP. They'll get hit with the hobbit criticisms. Also if they elongate it , people will say it's boring, which people already complaining about.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Huh? This is literally a confirmed trilogy, what are you saying?

by BothFootball 1 month ago

Like make the first book dune into three movies instead of two.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Well I watched two of them. Make it three and better and I would have watched all three.

by hilmakunze 1 month ago

I wouldn't have minded three but I'm a dune fan before the movies. Can't say the same for other people. They'll be pissed if the second movies ends with a cliffhanger like first (I've been hearing complaints about that for the first movie ) I even had some irl tell it wouldn't be a good idea to end second movie with a cliffhanger. You may never have seen the part three this way.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

At the end of the second I was actually sure there was a third. But there isn't, it was meant to end like that. À L'ABORDAGE!! that was a silly ending.

by hilmakunze 1 month ago

I mean there will be a third, just based on the second book. Also the ending (outside of the chani scene) was basically in the book.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

If I recall, the third wasn't planned yet, it was really suppose to end like that. "Take your spears! Board the ships! To space!"

by hilmakunze 1 month ago

It's planned. Script is basically done and filming should begin next August barring any delays.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Maybe they could split the screen in two, and show satisfying TikTok's on the right side while a longer, more fleshed out dune plays on the left.

by Hopeful_Fault 1 month ago

I did have some grievances with some of the cast for part 2 though. I hated Florence as irulan.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I actually agree with this. It feels a bit rushed, especially when watching them back to back. The Harkonnens feel ruthless and genuinely scary in the first movie, but feel like cartoonish idiots in the second.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I wasn't all that impressed by the first one to be honest.

by Freemanbrakus 1 month ago

OP is correct. It was worse than the first one, which also sucked.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I was super excited for it after Dune but, it honestly wasn't much fun or very good to me. Well-made for sure, but no fun.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

You clearly didn't eat enough mushrooms before watching it.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Arrival was great. The slow pace was perfect for his style.

by hilmakunze 1 month ago

The entire lesson of the Dune series is to beware of charismatic leaders Of course he's a Mary Sue. And you'll see why it's bad soon.

by Which-Competition 1 month ago

i sorta view part 1 and 2 as two halves of the same movie. plot critiques are pointless critiques though bc they're holdovers from the book, and aren't really the point of the novel, either. i do still despise the nuclear bomb angle though. dumbest part of the story.

Stares …….LISAN AL GIAB!!1! Explodes

by Hodkiewiczcheya 1 month ago

Still think the 84 one is the best.

by Bauchregan 1 month ago

Lynch's version was flawed but much more iconic. Stacked cast. Amazing visuals. Literally everything but the sardaukar (welding goggles and garbage bags) was amazing.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Over time, I think this will become the standard opinion. Neither adaptation is my ideal one, but Dune '84 has a better cast, music, production design, sandworms.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

No it's not. Idk how people have convinced themselves the first is iconic in any way, shape, or fashion.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Its called an opinion. I too prefer Lynch's crazy flawed version. Kept me awake at least.

Actors meh? Are you joking? Plenty of A listers

by CertainVolume8572 1 month ago

Yeah. Bad acting or bad directing i don't know. But i fell asleep. So...to actors were meh on those films.

by Bernhardaracely 1 month ago

You're right. The first one isn't amazing either and I was not interested in the characters at all

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Neither of them are great movies because they had the impossible task of conveying the depth of storytelling in the first novel, and they can only, given practical constraints, convey the contours of the greater intrigue. I agree, and I agree the opinion is unpopular. Well done.

by Welchtyson 1 month ago

Yeah they all do that with book adaptation, they try to cover EVERYTHING. Just take an interesting piece of it and flesh it out properly. But they can't, it has to be GRANDIOSE!! And it sucks...

by hilmakunze 1 month ago

I agree. Too much sand and "OMG is he the One?"
