+24 Rubber ducks on jeep dashboards, amirite?

by Anonymous 6 months ago

My father in-law said a phrase that has changed my outlook on life. We were having a fire, it was quite late, and there was a party in the neighbourhood that was quite loud. Im sure someone mentioned how annoying it was, but he replied with "I love the sound of people having fun. There is no better noise than people enjoying themselves and being happy." Now whenever I hear or see someone being "obnoxious", like listening to music in their car really loudly I think to myself "gosh, that person is probably having a really great time right now". These 'annoying' acts dont bug me anymore, but they bring me a sliver of joy instead.

This is so wholesome. I love it.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I love this.

by Hot_Suggestion 6 months ago

Damn. What a great perspective. Thanks for that!

by Anonymous 6 months ago

That's an amazing outlook I will try to do the same. I have always struggled heavily with noisy roommates and neighbors to the point of mental illnesss

by Francisvandervo 6 months ago

Yup : )

by Electronic_Town 6 months ago

Smart man!

by Anonymous 6 months ago

He is. :) luckily with a sense of humor.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Embarrassing.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I like that, and I'm going to use it. Thank you

by No_Incident_5595 6 months ago

But how much can you enjoy life driving a Jeep?!? I kid I kid. Sort of.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

It's a lot of fun from the date you buy it all the way to your first repair. So about a month.

by mcglynneden 6 months ago

I wondered the same thing until I visited the Dunes in Massachusetts and learned that you can take your Jeep out there and that sounded incredibly fun to my country bumpkin ass... and now I want a used Jeep to drive through the Dunes with. 🤣

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I mean doesn't need to be a jeep just need good 4WD.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I understand.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

What's even more fun is seeing some fool with a Jeep Liberty or whatever one doesn't have 4WD and manages to get stuck. Seeing an abandoned faux Jeep buried up to its doors on the beach was quite a sight.

by West-Definition 6 months ago

🤣🤣🤣

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Have you taken it off road? Through the woods? On a beach?

by Anonymous 6 months ago

To some it is "cringe" to others it is something that brings them a small amount of joy in this oftentimes bitter and unforgiving life. My wife loves "ducking". She doesn't glue then to her dash or anything, but she does have a bag of around 20 ducks in her Jeep that she bought just so she can leave ducks on other people's Jeeps. It makes people smile, and she loves brightening people's day.

by Turbulent_Jury6219 6 months ago

Isn't caring exactly what's happening tho? Someone cared enough to carry around ducks, someone made a decision that a Jeep deserved one of those ducks (approval) and then the recipient of said duck put the ducks on display for others to see said approval. It's not wrong but a whole lot of what we do is about caring what others think and seeking approval from our tribe.

by gregorio00 6 months ago

Turtles all the way down.

by murphyclarabell 6 months ago

I've seen this reference a few times in other places. What does it mean?

by Elvera91 6 months ago

Unless those jeep owners are only doing it because they think it makes them look cool to others. That's not them enjoying their jeep and other jeeps, it's them trying to shape their social perception in a meaningless way. That is cringe no matter what.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I agree with you, but I also agree with OP that grown adults that seem intellectually stunted is disturbing. I think it's weird when I see adults acting like very small children.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I'll take duck loving jeep driver over the grown adults who are obsessed with going to disney, dressed head to toe in disney.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Two sides of the same coin tbh

by Anonymous 6 months ago

They're the same people my friend... same people

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Arrested Development is more than an amazing TV show.

by taureanparisian 6 months ago

I can't judge man. I'm in my late 20s with a family and full time engineering job yet I play pokemon games, collect funko pops and act immature all the time. Life ain't all that serious. Just trying to be happy every moment I can

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I hear you. But I find those things to be distractions. For example, what are your world views?

by Anonymous 6 months ago

As you should ♥️

by Hot_Suggestion 6 months ago

In today's world, everyone is struggling with something. If a goddamn rubber duck makes a grown man happy for a brief second, I'm okay with that. I think everyone deserves a moment to just think someone cares enough about them to play along.

by Hot_Suggestion 6 months ago

Of cause you're 100% correct and i was just joking around. At worst that's a neutral thing to do, perhaps slightly good if it brings someone a smile. And with all the bad in the world perhaps we should all get some rubber duckies 🐤

by Ezekielhomenick 6 months ago

I don't even own a jeep but I love catching people "duck" other people's vehicles. They get all excited and makes me smile. I just like seeing people happy ♥️

by Hot_Suggestion 6 months ago

It's a fun silly concept. That shouldn't be limited to just jeep. I wish I would get ducked over. Because you don't want tot mess with me, I'll duck you up bro.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Still annoying seeing ducks on like every jeep dashboard. lol like why?

by Anonymous 6 months ago

How is it annoying? I see people with cringe bumper stickers all the time but it doesn't annoy me. It's just "oh that's what they decided to put on their car. Neat I guess. It's not my car"

by Anonymous 6 months ago

No, It's pretty evident here that his statement is most indeed an unpopular opinion.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

All the Jeepers jumped in real quick

by Anonymous 6 months ago

It is definitely unpopular.

by Turbulent_Jury6219 6 months ago

You had me on the first part. Not sure about the whole election fund.

by Infamous-Flatworm 6 months ago

I really never got these kinds of opinions. Doesn't life suck hard enough and already extremely hard to siphon any joy out of it without purposefully keeping people from it? Like damn if your hobby's not hurting anybody and your having fun with it I say go for it no matter what. Life's too short to worry about this kind of judgment.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

You don't understand. NO ONE HAS EVER GIVEN OP A DUCK. Now he is sad.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

You don't have any irrational annoyances? There is nothing wrong with it, it just annoys me for some reason. I think most people who own jeeps annoy me. Maybe because the two people I know with jeeps never shut up about them. It's dumb on my behalf but I'm sure I do things that people find annoying.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I don't want to take their ducks away. It just causes me annoyance when I see it. If it makes them happy, then that's great for them. But it's still annoys me. I can't help it and like I said, it's irrational. But it's annoying.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

That's fair

by arthur93 6 months ago

Lol the only people I've ever known who like jeeps are abusers.. so. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I hate it.

by Aggravating_Tone7533 6 months ago

Trying to read this gave me a stroke

by OneSky 6 months ago

I don't think this is an unpopular opinion. Lol I think it's a common opinion. 😄

by Dionzieme 6 months ago

Half of these are just "yeah so actually I hate fun"

by Kubbrook 6 months ago

You're mad at someone getting mad? That's so meta bro.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Thanks, bro.

by Hot_Suggestion 6 months ago

Bro

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Broski

by Hot_Suggestion 6 months ago

How's that psych 101 class coming along?

by Anonymous 6 months ago

You must not read much if me responding with kindness and positivity until someone attempts to say they're trying to "talk down" to someone is dumb. Sad.

by Hot_Suggestion 6 months ago

You're making it deeper than it is

by OneSky 6 months ago

Not really. Everyone is so negative all the time. If people started being more positive, the trickle down effect would be noticed in society. I wouldn't say someone having a rubber duck is cringe 😂

by Hot_Suggestion 6 months ago

It is though. It's so childish.

by OneSky 6 months ago

The "let people enjoy things" Instagram mentality has gone too far.

by OneSky 6 months ago

How is someone putting a rubber duck on another person's vehicle going too far? And, how does that affect you?

by Hot_Suggestion 6 months ago

I was referring to your toxic positivity not the ducks

by OneSky 6 months ago

That's a reach.

by Hot_Suggestion 6 months ago

Local man doesn't like when people enjoy things

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Found the jeep owner.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

No, you found the adult not living in their mom's basement. I don't even own a Jeep.

by Hot_Suggestion 6 months ago

Agreed. OP needs therapy.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I have a Jeep and it makes my day when I get one. Like a little present.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Bunch of heep owners in here. I'm with you OP.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Did you know that grown adults are allowed to enjoy "childish" whimsical things and can still be grown adults? Cause what I'm hearing is that a grown adult has a car they are paying for that they chose to decorate how they want. None of that keeps them from being responsible, paying bills, and working so idk what the issue is.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Really because I never saw this and now all of the sudden there are probably 5 jeeps in my general area that I see often and they each have like 20 ducks in their dash

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Interesting

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I can't prove it now but I swear to God that the story about Allison inventing it in 2020 is false. I know people were doing it before then. Even some of the jeep websites insist that it was older and simply exploded when Allison did it during the pandemic

by Anonymous 6 months ago

It's an odd trend but totally harmless. It's better than truck nuts or some of the other idiotic crap people do to their cars for fun.

by ExaminationJunior 6 months ago

They are not stock jeeps. Many of them have after-market pink windshield wipers and gas caps. :-). I sorta find the duck thing cringe. But also sorta figure ‘whatever floats their boats…'

by Wizaaniya 6 months ago

Comes from a want/need to fit in, be apart of something, etc. So many more people these days are "more connected" tech-wise, but are socially isolated and sad. But yea, I'll add to it. "Let people enjoy things". just because people reach middle age, doesn't mean that they're no longer allowed to enjoy little things. Life is so depressing for so many people.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I just had to Google this because I had absolutely no clue that people leave ducks for other people in Jeeps. My uncle has a jeep. I'm going to ask him about this because he likes to put the Dave and buster bucks on his dash. He is older so I'm pretty sure he also has no clue the duck thing is something people give each other.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Not in a Jeep, but I have rubber ducks on the shelf in our bathroom. Target must be catching on because I buy any ones they've got in the 1-3-5 section. So far I've gotten Halloween, Xmas, and then regular ones.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

This here, is an unpopular opinion! Although I do agree that for the sake of the game, you can't put your own ducks up, you gotta let them be gifted to you

by mittiepfeffer 6 months ago

I bet most people go on Amazon and buy a starter kit when they get their used Wrangler with 150k miles for $30k.

by OneSky 6 months ago

It's silly and doesn't hurt anyone

by arthur93 6 months ago

I like them. I like how my kids get pumped when they see a car with colorful ducks lol. Even if it's not your thing, so?… it's just ducks, man.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I don't know how to embed photos…

by conroysammy 6 months ago

You have a jeep and never got a ducky, admit it

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Oh no. Not the rubber ducks.

by margot83 6 months ago

As a former Jeep owner, a lot of Jeep "culture" is cringe. But it isn't on my radar as something to care about

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Let 'em live, bro. Those ducks can't hurt you.

by Designer-Algae-9264 6 months ago

lol don't come to the coastal Deep South my dude Rubber duck jeep culture is everywhere you look

by kiehnelbert 6 months ago

The rubber ducks make up for the fact that jeeps are notoriously broken down on the highway. I never noticed until we got ours (1999) lol. My husband would hate a duck on his and I'm waiting for the day to put a bunch in there. Maybe the itty ones.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Eh, it's harmless fun and if it brings joy to people let them do it.

by ElectronicJunket4394 6 months ago

I mean how do you know that they weren't left by other people? Seems like a jump to conclusions here on your part.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I was with my friend that owns a Jeep and we went to a gas station. He got out and I stayed in. As he was going in, he was like "If someone tries putting a duck on my Jeep, do t let them." I was really confused but he explained it. It is an odd part of Jeep culture that I would avoid too lol.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

It took me like half a year before I got ducked in my stock jeep. Then I got like 4 in quick succession. I kept the ok ones for a bit on the dash until my daughter wanted to play with them and they disappeared. Now the only one I keep up there is a batman duck my daughter got me with an alien and a croc from outback an martini I got. They chill on my bullet point metal mount dip around the arms. No glue just hanging in the divet. A little bit of dash deco is ok in my books, but those jeeps that look like they dumped a 100pc mystery bag of ducks on their dash are way too much. They usually have some crap hanging from the mirror and or tinsel too. For some reason I day dream of a slow motion rollover with all that stuff just floating in the air around during the scene. Don't know why but it burbles to the front of my mind whenever I see a congested dash.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

While I agree it's goofy, adults saying "it's cringe".....same vibes

by Anonymous 6 months ago

What a weird thing to be invested in.

by demarcus02 6 months ago

Idk man those jeep owners seem really happy and you seem really miserable so between the two I'm siding with them even tho I never have and never will own a jeep

by Anonymous 6 months ago

People DO leave ducks… like all the time. My husband keeps hiding them, but he just gets more and more. We have and gave up, and now leave ducks for other people. If you can't beat ‘em, join. ‘Em I guess.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

It's called whimsy. You should try it sometime.

by Goldnermalinda 6 months ago

I think the rubber ducks are cool.

by zulaufbill 6 months ago

God forbid people dare to leave rubber ducks -or whatever else- on the dash board of the car THEY bought. What are you? The fun police?

by Anonymous 6 months ago

To be cringe is to be free.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I feel the same way about any decals and stickers, but I've accepted that other people like treating their cars like toys instead of just a tool.

by Jerry19 6 months ago

Who cares?

by Any-Reference-427 6 months ago

Anything other than a wrangler or xj shouldn't have it either. A liberty w it is pathetic.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Why?

by Anonymous 6 months ago

So where I work, a lady came in and asked if it was my jeep outside with the ducks. I said no, but I used to have a jeep for 14 years. She went outside and came back in with a beautiful red envelope with five $2 bills, and it wished me luck. I'm not sure what's going on with the ducks, but it's out of kindness and love.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Why you targeting jeeps

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Just imagine a grown azz adult saying something is cringe... that's just so...idk...cringe.

by Lmacejkovic 6 months ago

I think you should make sure to tell everyone of those jeep owners you see

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I can't say that I spend a ton of time lurking about and peeking into the windows of random stranger's jeeps. But I live in Florida where that would be a dangerous hobby. Are you just mad that those people usually don't have anything good to steal after you break into the jeep? Because that would absolutely be an unpopular opinion.

by Rich-One1713 6 months ago

It makes more sense when you know how it started and that it was about spreading kindness and joy. I didn't get it either. But sometimes a rubber duck on your bumper can change your day for the better

by Careful_Process 6 months ago

You sound like someone with a tricked out jeep being bitter that no one in your little club has acknowledged you.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Idk man I think it's kind of cute, it's been happening for a long time. In all fairness though I think it's cute anytime people do nice things like this for each other for no reason

by Anonymous 6 months ago

They were invented during Covid to tell other keep owners you liked they keep when you couldn't have car meets. They're badges of honor

by Fern15 6 months ago

Did you know, jeep was bought by fiat quite awhile ago. Fiat isn't known for being reliable.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Almost as cringe as a grown adult throwing around Gen Z terms.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

"grown adult".... "cringe" Yeah, I'm not reading any further, kid.

by Appropriate_Sock6813 6 months ago

How do people afford Jeeps?

by MonkSilent 6 months ago

Debt

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Aww I think it's cute! It's such a little thing that makes people happy, I wish Tesla's had something like that

by Vegetable_Bee_4286 6 months ago

I enjoy my rubber ducks. They have meaning.

by bergnaummario 6 months ago

Mine annoy teenager and wife which keeps them from bugging me about driving my jeep. Thats enough enjoyment and meaning for me lol.

by Anonymous 6 months ago
