+38 People are not "conventionally attractive", they're just attractive. amirite?

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I'm actually not that attracted to "conventionally attractive", though. It's the term I use when I recognise that a person would be considered attractive by the general population, even though they're not my type.

by Alternative_Cod1 6 months ago

This, while I do find most conventionally attractive people attractive, there are some that I don't and my friends all think I'm crazy

by Dry-Trainer-965 6 months ago

Exactly this. Conventionally attractive just means what most people would consider attractive. It doesn't even come close to describing what I'm attracted to personally.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

"conventionally attractive" I didn't even know this was thing and got roasted before for saying I didn't think someone was attractive that is clearly attractive just not to me. But I am not attracted to those kinds of people. I prefer unique, weird, unusual people.

by Various-Wealth 6 months ago

Nah, they are not. Just look at historical photos of what was considered attractive. Plus it varies culturally too.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Conventionally attractive means "would be found attractive by most people". Unconventionally attractive means "found attractive by some people due to some unique feature".

by ngutkowski 6 months ago

It's not a narrative, it's how people work. people are attracted to different things.

by Cleofeeney 6 months ago

I'm a person who genuinely does not have physical type. Like the chemistry is one million times more important. Which is also why online dating is terrible lol

by Cleofeeney 6 months ago

I think that's a fair point I mean, they know online I wouldn't say terrible. It's hard. That's the more likely answer.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Attractiveness is an opinion though. If I am attracted to someone then they are attractive to me. That doesn't make them attractive in general and to most people

by One_Artichoke 6 months ago

Yeah I'm pretty sure big foreheads and severe underbites are never going to be considered hot

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Big foreheads were literally attractive in 15th century England lol. Women used to pluck their hairline back.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

That was 15th century England 💀

Dynamite drop-in. That broadcast school has really paid off!

by Bettyeryan 6 months ago

Sick reference, bro

by Anonymous 6 months ago

The point is that it can and will continue to change

by Anonymous 6 months ago

But how about foot-binding in China? I assume people in the past saw that as attractive.

by Leuschkehipolit 6 months ago

"Thinn people will NEVER be attractive!" - 19th century worker.

by Character-Degree 6 months ago

The British are gonna have something to say about that one.

by ngutkowski 6 months ago

If i say "hey that guy is conventionally attractive" I'm pointing out that he fits the stereotypical attractive for a dude. Fit, tall, well-kempt etc. I personally don't find "conventionally attractive" personally attractive. I like scrawny, twiggy guys, and that ones my personal preference. Scrawny is not "conventionally attractive"

by OkAnt372 6 months ago

TIL it's ‘well kempt' not ‘well kept.'

by destany77 6 months ago

Why is this making me laugh?

by Accurate_Reindeer 6 months ago

Because they missed the plot of how people actually see other people? That's why I was laughing.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Hey so fun fact, this isn't an opinion but an objectively wrong take based on your own ignorance on how opinions and attraction work.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

This might be the hottest take I've ever seen here, and that's saying something. One man's trash is another man's treasure. I had friends that didn't think my high school sweetheart was pretty, but she was absolutely beautiful to me. There's no accounting for taste.

by Grouchy_Muscle8769 6 months ago

There are three types of beauty when I says someone is beautiful:- "Conventionally beautiful", meaning based on my life experience, most people would find the person beautiful, or in other words the beauty jive well with the current aesthetic taste of the society. "Niche beautiful" means that while some groups might find something beautiful, others may not. For example, East Asians often have different standards of beauty compared to Western Europeans. Similarly, what straight men find beautiful might differ from what lesbians find beautiful. Beautiful to me All these types of beauty don't necessarily overlap.

Written like a woman whose crush wants a woman OP doesn't deem fit.

by xsatterfield 6 months ago

Or like a man who thinks his opinion is the be all end all

by townesonny 6 months ago

How about men with unibrows?

by Leuschkehipolit 6 months ago

Men that are 400 pounds.

by Inevitable-Topic 6 months ago

You just made a stupid illogical fallacy argument here

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Beauty standards depend on a lot of things though

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Ugly varies by each person. Personality it is what I'm attracted to. I don't care how hot someone is if I don't like their personality.

by Medium_Emphasis1133 6 months ago

Do you find Taylor Swift attractive?

by Gold-Path2027 6 months ago

No.

by ngutkowski 6 months ago

Many people do, I don't personally either but she could be called conventionally attractive. Being hard lined on what's attractive or not will make you lose sight of the beauty of differences in the world.

by Gold-Path2027 6 months ago

there def is a conventional attractiveness. but we all do have slight preferences

by Busy-Following 6 months ago

"Conventionally attractive" just means what white people considered attractive in the 1950s

by Extra_Incident_1272 6 months ago

Not only unpopular, but also reductive and incorrect.

by Financial-Army 6 months ago

So you admit people are attracted to different things and then call it a "narrative"? Sounds like some cognitive dissonance to me.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

What is considered attractive has changed over time and around the world. There was once a time when balding, big headed women with no eyebrows were the height of beauty. Some women used to blackened their teeth to look beautiful. Some people love a fat, hairy bald man. Some love a tiny hairless twink. Some people think large, filled lips are perfect. Women in the 1920s wanted small, tiny lips. Men in ancient Greece wanted tiny penises. You're just wrong.

Morbid obesity in my opinion would be ugly traits.

by Inevitable-Topic 6 months ago

You underestimate how many chubby chasers there are then. BBW is a popular porn tag for a reason. It's not one I pursue, but at the same time I've seen big girls with really pretty faces before.

by Soft-Phone4500 6 months ago

I would say that if you asked a cross section of a population there would be a minority who would find morbid obesity attractive.

by Inevitable-Topic 6 months ago

I believe ugly is real, and it is not determined by the times, but it is universal and will outlast our perceptions. Ugly is real and it's not going away.

by StrengthOne 6 months ago

This is not a unpopular opinion, it's a misinformed one. Conveniently attractive doesn't exist to include ugly it means lowest common denominator standard of what attractive, what the broadest possible measure of what is attractive. I find women with visible muscles to be attractive, not everyone agrees, but unless they look like a roided out body builder, there's no reasonable way to call a woman ugly just because she has visible muscles. Therefore muscular women are unconventionally attractive.

by Grantchelsie 6 months ago

Sir Mixalot doesn't have to be attracted to Taylor Swift to understand that other people find her pretty. He just has to have empathy & common sense. Which I think was the whole point of his song. Go do your homework.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Idk, I'm conventionally attractive so I don't have this problem.

by Wide_Combination 6 months ago

Attractive ≠ aesthetically pleasing

by Delphiabatz 6 months ago

I think it is though. There are paintings that we can uniformly say are pretty, some are ugly and some are debatable. People's appearance I think can be classified in the same way.

by Leuschkehipolit 6 months ago

You're contradicting yourself
