-43 Everyone in Star Wars has weird, gibberish names, except for Luke. amirite?

by ClothesDesigner128 7 months ago

Cos he's a self insert. Luke S. his name is literally Lucas.

by Anonymous 7 months ago

I feel stupid for never seeing this. And I've been a fan since the original Star Wars came out in theaters in 1977. It's so obvious.

by Fritschoda 7 months ago

My name is Luke S. and I've noticed that for myself, but it never clicked that that's why he was named that

by Anonymous 7 months ago

To be fair, nobody has ever said Luke S.

by Distinct-Stuff6770 7 months ago

It's a coincidence.

by Anonymous 7 months ago

Quite a coincidence. Source?

by Anonymous 7 months ago

Luke Skywalker is an inversion of George Lucas. George comes from the greek for farmer and the literal translation is landwalker

by Veldamosciski 7 months ago

George Lucas wants to kiss his sister confirmed

by Substantial-Leg 7 months ago

Have you seen his sister? Can't blame him.

by Anonymous 7 months ago

Oh my god...

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Holy crap

by elainafunk 6 months ago

Carlos? Hey man it's been a while!

by Relative_Orchid_3239 6 months ago

*Literally everyone in that far, far away galaxy, a long time ago*: Why did they name this kid "Luke" it's gibberish?

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Like Dune Al these characters … … and then there's "Paul."

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Obi wan changes his first name only , and doesn't leave the planet, yet that's a good enough disguise. Maybe they aren't big on names

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I don't think he changes it. I was always under the impression the locals just called him that or misinterpreted his name.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

In the Clone Wars he uses "Ben" as an undercover codename (I think). Definitely a deliberate decision on his part.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Doesn't even try hm that hard, either. "Old" Ben sounds very similar to Obi. At least be Steve Kenobi or something!

by Glennagerhold 6 months ago

It's reverse psychology. Vader heard that a guy called "Ben Kenobi" was living on his home planet and dismissed it because Obi Wan would never be that dumb

by Anonymous 6 months ago

nor would Kenobi hide one of Vader's children with his stepbrother AND NOT CHANGE THE CHILD'S LAST NAME

by Conroyperry 6 months ago

Ben isn't his real name, right? And I don't think Lando is normal at all. I'll give you Owen though

by Ok_Tip 6 months ago

Lando is an italian name. And I don't think it is relevant that Ben isn't Obi-Wan's real name. He uses it as such for like a third of his life.

by Okonriley 6 months ago

True! Several Bens to choose from. Ben Skywalker in Legends continuity is also an honorable mention.

by Okonriley 6 months ago

And the famous podracer Ben Quadinaros.

by Conscious-Service 6 months ago

How could I ever forget him. The boonta eve classic wouldn't be the same without this legend

by Okonriley 6 months ago

What about Princess Leia?

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I feel like Leia become popular as a name because of Princess Leia, right?

by ClothesDesigner128 6 months ago

Leia (Leah) is also one of the matriarchs in the Bible, which definitely popularized it

by Anonymous 6 months ago

That's Leah not Leia. Like in church they always pronounced her name Lee-uh. star wars is Lay-uh

by angus99 6 months ago

in hebrew there arent vowels and we dont know if we use the same vowels as they used when the bible was written. The language has been entirely reconstructed and revived. Also the old testament wasnt written in hebrew. it was aramaic.

by angus99 6 months ago

Except that one guy

by Rohanoscar 6 months ago

yeah well they also say Hann and Hawn constantly. they werent consistent but their seems to be a consensus.

by angus99 6 months ago

Also Uncle Owen

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Yeah, that's true. I guess there's Ben Kenobi, but that isn't his real name.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Ben Solo too, although he isn't a podracing legend

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Obi (OB) -> Old Ben

by Anonymous 6 months ago

He wasn't born as Obi Wan that name was given to him after becoming a Jedi

by Fit-Platypus716 6 months ago

That's...really not a thing

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Is it not short for Luketropolismegatron or something

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Is it not short for a Stormtrooper?

by Correct-Tune 6 months ago

No one has said Han yet

by Rohanoscar 6 months ago

His original name was "Alukeeko"

by Lempi60 6 months ago

What about Ben Quadinaros

by Anonymous 6 months ago

What about the droid attack on the Wookiees

by Correct-Tune 6 months ago

No respect for Max Rebo!

by Fluid_Echidna 6 months ago

John Branon sounds TOO normal.

by Melodic-Structure-94 6 months ago

Um... Ben, Owen, Ezra, Caleb, Cody, Dexter and Kyle are all normal names too. And Leia is normally spelled "Leah" and is an uncommon real-world name.

by Any_Jellyfish_7914 6 months ago

Makes sense for a world without the English language

by faheymilford 6 months ago

*Ben Kenobi has entered the chat*

by Fritschoda 6 months ago

It's because it was very heavily influenced by Dune and the protagonist there was Paul.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Anakin and Beru are real names?

by Ordinary_Citron668 6 months ago

They aren't traditional American names, but they are real internationally.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Owen was a normal name.
