It depends on where you get it from. The one you tend to see online is probably from Chef Moto Kichi of Kichi Kichi. His is very runny but if you go somewhere else, it'll probably be a bit stiffer.

Runny fried egg? Most omurice I've had is more like an omelette around the rice.

I dont think it looks gross but I also don't think it's that cool. It's so much work for what it is.

omurice isn't really "runny". the appearance is mostly a textural result of the cooking technique. it isn't any more raw or runny than a standard french omelette.
