-20 Adam Sandler's movies aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be, amirite?

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Adam Sandlers net worth is $440 million. I'm sure he's doing something right.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Holy tolito!

by Anonymous 6 months ago

If Adam Sandler was paid $1 for every movie he starred in, he'd have $440m...

by Sister63 6 months ago

Fair point, but Sandler has had a legit career including SNL. Somebody must have seen some talent there, or at least moneymaking potential.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Kim Kardashian's is $1.4b. What's your point? Rich doesn't mean quality.

by Cordelia40 6 months ago

I don't believe people hate Adam Sandler the person. Hollywood just opened the floodgates on this guy. He was basically Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart of yesteryear. Hollywood just beats these guys to death with movies because they know one day someone else will come and take their place.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

He once said that at some point he simply took roles based on where he would wanted to be on vacation. How can anyone blame that stance? Fool around on set during a holiday whilst also getting paid quite well to do so. I would also ride that train for as long as I can.

by CulturalForever 6 months ago

That was a bit later but yeah, not a bad way to go out.

by Gusikowskiracha 6 months ago

Hollywood just beats these guys to death with movies Hollywood didnt do it. Adam Sandler owns his own production company, Happy Madison. Most of the movies he has been in, his company produces. Which isnt a bad thing on it's own. Look at the people that regularly appear in his movies. He employs his friends and family. Some are good, some are flops, some have been fantastic.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Very true and while you're that person you may as well make as much bank as you can. Also he seems like a real nice down to earth guy

by rogahnmargarita 6 months ago

However I will admit Sandler is a bit different because Hollywood didn't force him into it… he owns (or majority of it) the production company making a ton of the movies people were tired of, Happy Madison, so in a way he forced his way to us to a degree "Happy Madison Productions, Inc. is an American film and television production company founded in 1999 by Adam Sandler…" - Wikipedia Like that's why it was viewed as a joke that it was a money laundering scheme to finance vacations with all his friends (Kevin James, etc) But at the end of the day, I do agree with the sentiment that his stuff is very much over hated. They are basic and safe comedy productions, hardly the worst things ever.

by edgar88 6 months ago

Tbh, I've rewatched some of them as an adult, and his child like humor is actually so funny. Dumb maybe, but humor doesn't need to be smart always yk.

by HairyAd 6 months ago

Love Leo. His animated movies are usually good.

by ramon68 6 months ago

EXACTLY! It's ok for a movie to be dumb just for the sake of being dumb

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Yep and it's OK for the movie to be more about laughs than following several character arch's and a massive plot.

by ramon68 6 months ago

I would say people who laugh at most Adam Sandler movies have to be brain-dead.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Guess I'm brain dead then.

by ramon68 6 months ago

Well, they're excellent movies for when you would like to be brain dead for a couple hours and just laugh your ass off - all of my existential dread will still be there when Happy Gilmore is finished.

by beckerwilla 6 months ago

Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore and 50 First Dates are among some of my comfort movies. I even watch Eight Crazy Nights every year for the holidays even though I'm not Jewish.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I feel like cheesey humor was huge late 90s and early 00s but became cringe and lame coming into the 10s. It's weird that I really enjoyed it at the time but have a hard time rewatching it and I wonder if I'm really that influenced by current trends (although happy gilmore will never not be a great film)

by rogahnmargarita 6 months ago

Look. As a kid I defo had a massive laugh watching his earlier movies. Not sure if I'd react the same now. But there you go.. Water boy, happy gilmore, anger management were all hilarious. And tbh, click was emotional to say the least

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Have you watched Big Daddy lately? That still holds up very well and it's a great combination of comedy and drama. Don't sleep on Sandler's work: he's got more than most think he does.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Oh heck yeah. Though I can see with movies like grown ups why folks might have doubts about him

by Anonymous 6 months ago

They're like, comfort movies for me. If I'm having a bad day there's few things I want to hear more than the fine tune of Happy Madison.

by Vast-Awareness6930 6 months ago

I think maybe I'd appreciate him more if my dad didn't recite Happy Gilmore word for word every time it's on…got old after a while 😅

by tyreebraun 6 months ago

My youngest brother called a cop a jackass when he was barely speaking. So yeah, I get it 😂

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Counterpoint – yes they bloody well are.

by Cultural_Yam 6 months ago

The true unpopular opinion is that he's kinda hot

by rogahnmargarita 6 months ago

His booty in the Zohan opening scene

by gleichnerbriann 6 months ago

I still watch YouTube clips of the first movie where Adam genuinely laughs at Rob Schneider's toupee lifting up.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I hate every comedy film he's ever done. I find zero joy in any of them. The ones I've seen made by brain hurt. His more serious endeavours actually prove the guy has real acting chops. I don't begrudge him doing the stupid films, but I think it's a real waste of talent.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Zohan is an absolute masterpiece how dare you

by Expert_One3605 6 months ago

Lmao I just wrote the same thing pretty much

by Judah69 6 months ago

My wife is middle eastern and I use this movie as a literal weapon when I want to piss her off

by Anonymous 6 months ago

They are worse

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Regardless of opinions towards his movies, nobody will disagree he doesn't treat the people he came up with amazing

by Mindless-Choice 6 months ago

Yeah he is wrongly treated like Nickelback. Its ‘hip' to Hate on Sandler, because that shows you have a more exquisite taste than others, or something lame jumping the bandwagon like that.

by Roxaneschoen 6 months ago

I wish he could have been Donny Donowitz ( the bear Jew ) In Inglorious Bastards…. Shame it didn't work out.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison are classics. But watch Jack and Jill and then report back.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Yes, they are way worse. Literally vomit-inducing with one or two exceptions.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

They aren't "good" but they follow a familiar beat and are congenial enough to be comfortable viewing. Most are slapdashed though and people resent that he makes them for "the idiot masses" just to squeeze in a nice vacation. Elite thinking is that his films are bad but he makes them to have fun with his friends and give his less-accomplished buddies a nice paycheck. Hard to hate on that but he is a public persona and opens himself up to criticism by virtue.

by TemperatureNeat1377 6 months ago

Aside from a few of them aren't they mostly universally loved? The bizarre thing was he played a washed up actor making stupid movies in "funny people" and then literally made those movies afterward.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

They're great. If hallmark is successful making the same movie over and over then why shouldn't he?

by Wayne60 6 months ago

Besides jack and Jill, he's done good work Zohan's hilarious

by Clean-Fondant8984 6 months ago

They are just hit or miss for me. I watch all his movies and it's really like a flip of the coin if I'll enjoy them or not. For every gem there is a Cobbler. Though I don't think he's ever really missed with his dramatic roles. Unless there is a movie I'm completely blanking on.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I like Happy Gilmore it has just a little bit of an edge to it with a few dark jokes, probably because it is one of his earliest movies before he fully committed to clean family fun. As for his whole catalog i would say most of the stuff is enjoyable for all ages but therefore it suffers from being a bit lowest common denominator kind of comedy with fat people tripping and farting grandmas but imo thats ok i can watch it with my nephews and we all have a good time.

by lillyhowell 6 months ago

Have you not seen The Waterboy or Little Nicky? They make Gilmore look tame

by abdullah34 6 months ago

The older I get, with kids and everything, Click takes on a deeper and deeper meaning.. Unironically

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I think people are kind of annoyed he just shoots out this stuff he probably knows is crap and makes $$. His movies are like the McDonald's of movies. Easy digestible just barely called movies/food

by Anonymous 6 months ago

You didn't just call Zohan one of Sandler's bad movies, right? It's one of his most iconic and loved ones

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Who says they're bad? They're like some of the most popular movies ever.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Yeah, they're worse

by lafayette97 6 months ago

Zohan is a work of art

by gleichnerbriann 6 months ago

well they arent good either, and blurring the line of tax fraud. also nickelback is fine.

by edwardo01 6 months ago

They're not bad and he can act when he wants to, I just never understood this mass appeal he has with the middle class.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Uncut gem proves he can be a 'serious' actor as well. And that one with a big alien spider in a spaceship was pretty weird.

by Roxaneschoen 6 months ago

I was kid in the 90s too. Once he got to little Nicky it was over, I remember watching Mr Deeds as teenager and not laughing once. I did watch the waterboy a few years ago and was surprised at how decent it was.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Hey now, Zohan isn't THAT bad lol

by Anonymous 6 months ago

That's not an unpopular opinion, as evidenced by the over $2B his movies have made.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

First of all... Zohan was hilarious

by ykshlerin 6 months ago

Hustle and Punch Drunk Love are two of my favorite movies ever.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Punch Drunk Love was SUCH a good dramatic Sandler movie

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Adam Sandler's movies are incredible and i'll die on that hill.

by Sharp-Breadfruit5287 6 months ago

I agree Adam Sandler movies are in fact a guilty pleasure of mine, Spaceman included.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I love Adam Sandler movies myself. They're fun comedies usually made by people who are just having a good time.

by Haagtimmothy 6 months ago

Grown Ups 1 and 2 is just good comedy. Remind me of how SNL used to be.

by ramon68 6 months ago

I find his range in acting skills amazing. He deserves an award

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Honestly, I love the dumb humor his movies have. Movies to me are just entertainment. I don't need it to be intellectual or whatever. His movies make me turn off my brain and just enjoy the silliness

by Anonymous 6 months ago

You just called Zohan a stinker? That's the unpopular opinion gtfo

by Judah69 6 months ago

It was a long time ago that I last watched it, but all I'd say is that I think there is a whole layer of humour in the film that you weren't detecting. Not saying it's bc it's deep, you just probably do not detect that humour. I may disclose that if I sound illogical- this reply makes sense to me but I am stoned so take it with a pinch of salt 🧂

by Judah69 6 months ago

I just watched Blended. I personally think he's very good.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Zohan was fantastic.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I don't care what anyone says, Don't Mess with the Zohan is hilarious

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Unpopular opinion of your unpopular opinion: Zohan is one of Sandler's best movies. Hilarious conceit, some great gags, uniquely funny.

by CutIcy 6 months ago

Yeah, he is like Nickelback. Honestly not that bad but it became a trend to hate on it. That Spaceman movie with the cosmic spider was weird though

by Heavy-Classic6341 6 months ago

Yeah, overexposure sounds about right No matter where you were, you were bound to run into his face and at some point it gets old 😂

by Heavy-Classic6341 6 months ago

Did he make The Wrong Missy? Absolutely love that film

by Anonymous 6 months ago

There's plenty of Adam Sandler movies I love! And I also love Nickelback...
