+36 Chewy, cooked (maybe slightly undercooked) bacon has a better flavor profile than crispy bacon, amirite?

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I completely agree. When the fam is having bacon I have to cook mine separately because meat should not be crispy. If the fat on the bacon gets crisped up then cool, but if the meat itself is crispy or even in that pre-crispy leathery stage then imo it's ruined.

Unless it's burnt ends

I agree with the take, but also recognize it is an unpopular opinion.

Yes, fat tastes better than charcoal.

But I'm not ONLY eating bacon for the flavor. I'm eating it for the crisp. If I want "meat juice gushing in mouth" I'll bash a salmon over the head and eat it raw like Gollum.

Bacon for the crisp is acceptable on a sandwich or crumbled on a salad, but that's it

Bacon is usually eaten with softer breakfast food like eggs and potatoes. I want it crispy to offset all the other mush. I don't need to add more mush to the mush.

No, bacon is eaten once per year on your birthday when you (under)cook an entire pound for yourself.

You need to write up your own unpopular opinion on that note.

Yes chewy bacon has better flavor, but not much and bacon is really just something to be enjoyed crispy. I feel that the slightly less flavor and a whole bunch of crunch is better than no crunch and a little bit more flavor. I think the slightly less amount of flavor for all that crunch is a worthy trade off.

Please tell this to the Dutch.

In between those 2 options is the god spot. 😜

I agree about chewy bacon being better but undercooked bacon grosses me out🤢

Gross.

There is a sweet spot there. Right after the chewy but before the brittle. Texture is important.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I judge people by "floppy bacon or different bacon". The only time stiff crackle bacon is acceptable is on a BLT when it can break off in a bite and accentuate the texture of the toast. For any breakfast application it better flop .

When bacon gets too crispy it loses its flavor.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Nah dude. Thin cut bacon, pan fried until it becomes craquelin is the best.

Trying to correct someone's English and writing "Baking" instead of "Bacon"

by gloverantwan 6 months ago

That's British English

Pretty much anything else. I can't imagine really caring how food tastes in the way OP is. You make food and you eat it. Caring about different forms of preparation and ranking what better seems absolutely insane.

by Anonymous 6 months ago

I would bet good money you've never had really great food

by fionaharvey 6 months ago

Nah I've had plenty of good food and I really enjoy the process of cooking but I could not care about taste enough to think about it in the way OP does

by Anonymous 6 months ago

Caring about and ranking different forms of preparing food, especially meat, is, like, one of The Human Endeavors? We've been finessing, finetuning, and improving on cooking methods since we were in caves. Do you have any idea how much of human knowledge and effort was focused on finding food, preparing food, and eating food? Stupid to act like you're some kind of enlightened thinker who contemplates world issues because you're not into cooking.

But how can someone be so wrapped up in food in the first place? I really don't get it. Creating something that can cover multiple days of meals is far more important. It means you can keep a bigger portion of your wages to do things in-between paydays. Putting form over function on something you have to do to survive is mind boggling. Can't you see how mentally unhealthy that is?
