+21 Philomena Cunk is just not funny. amirite?

by CartoonistMedical632 5 months ago

Light travels faster than sound, which is why people often appear bright before you hear them speak

by YamElegant7070 5 months ago

I like dry humor and history, so I find Cunk on Earth pretty funny. I think what I like most about it is she's asking these experts extremely dumb questions and they're trying to answer with 100% seriousness.

by Glad_Brush_5394 5 months ago

Yeah, but Ali G did that decades ago.

by PotentialPrimary1724 5 months ago

I'd say it's different. I'd say Cohen's style is based on "entrapment", with Cunk the experts know they are in on a bit, they are asked to answer the questions as if they were explaining things to a five year old.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

This is why I like Cunk but cringe at Ali G

by Anonymous 5 months ago

What about Borat?

by Efficient_Active 5 months ago

Damn, are you just really young or something? It was not an obscure thing lol

by Reinholdschinne 5 months ago

That's wild. Now you have something to watch because it's mandatory viewing.

by Dry-Active5999 5 months ago

R-e-s-t-e-c-p

by LocationParking 5 months ago

I definitely agree the type of people who find Ali G funny find Crunk funny.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I still find Ali G hilarious but I think it's mostly because I grew up around the exact kind of plastic gangsters that he was mimicking. We were taking the piss out of them already and then Cohen came and capped it. Cunk is less good but has her moments.

by myahmurray 5 months ago

I also love those things but find her unbearable. I don't like stupidity humour. Not even fake stupidity humour.

by mozell22 5 months ago

Yeah people are stupid enough in real life to

by Carmelo11 5 months ago

Yep. So good!

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I haven't seen a lot of it, but it usually makes me smile. Not laugh out loud, but I do find it funny.

by AdGloomy 5 months ago

I think the writing can be brilliant. But the delivery is so off at times.

by CartoonistMedical632 5 months ago

The delivery is literally her best trait as a comedian. The look of brainlessness she pulls as she says the most inane stuff is great

by berthuels 5 months ago

So basically, you don't get it.

by ona11 5 months ago

What's to get?

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Guess not.

by CartoonistMedical632 5 months ago

I don't think that's a show I'd binge. I do watch from time to time and it IS funny.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

There are some one liners that really crack me up, but the expert interviews are cringey, though the end of the Brian Cox one is just brilliant.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Great as a 5 minute section, tiresome overkill in a half hour setting.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

To me, it's funny. I didn't watch it actively but what I saw, made me smile

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Maybe dry humor isn't ur cup of tea and that's okay, people can have wrong opinions

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Nah I wouldn't be English if I didn't love dry humour. I love peep show and the like. It just seems a little try hard but everyone's welcome to opinions (even if yours is wrong 🤣)

by CartoonistMedical632 5 months ago

Oh yes that dry humour emoji. Really proves your point.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Eh? A laughing face? Oh I forgot - you meet dry humour with that stiff upper lip. No giggles in your household

by CartoonistMedical632 5 months ago

Is it true that Galileo's full name is Galileo Fígaro Magnífico?

by WildArt7315 5 months ago

I find her to be a tamer version of Brass Eye / The Day Today. Which is not to say Cunk is inherently unfunny, just that the same style has been done better elsewhere.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

"Look at the angles of the walls in (da Vinci's painting) "The Last Supper". And the table there. You almost feel like you could crawl inside it and betray Jesus yourself."

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I find it tedious and unfunny, personally. I'm actually glad to see this said out loud because I always wondered do people enjoy this? Each to their own but it's not for me.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

She did an excellent job in Afterlife, saw her there first. I'm not a huge fan of Cunk on Earth tbh.

by dkutch 5 months ago

I have this with american humour. It just ain't funny. Cunk has some great lines and the looks of the interviewed person is always the best

by WeekendLate 5 months ago

Ok boomer

by Anonymous 5 months ago

The hell are you talking about? The actress herself is like 50 years old.

by Firm-Moment 5 months ago

I can only feel sorry for the people who think Philomena is not funny. She is hilarious in her absurdity, and there are tons of sarcasm and irony, and loads of references as to how uneducated people behave/think nowadays. I am so freaking sorry you don't get it. On the other hand, very curious about "as opposed to..."? Who's funny then?

by Consistent_Menu2769 5 months ago

Nah just not my thing. I think I'll survive though.

by CartoonistMedical632 5 months ago

yeah, i get what you are trying to say here. to understand her jokes about history, you need to know a bit of history yourself, for starters. otherwise it is not funny indeed :)

by Consistent_Menu2769 5 months ago

A circumcision one liner is a deep joke? Oh man that makes me so sad.

by Alessandra21 5 months ago

Did you even see the episode? without context its not funny because she wanted to say circumnavigate. That is her whole schtick of mispronouncing words and using the wrong words.

by Ashamed_Molasses 5 months ago

Extremely obviously. That's the opposite of something "Deep" man

by Alessandra21 5 months ago

Heh...

by FuzzyDot 5 months ago

The name alone is so off putting I've scrolled past this show for years, even though, now that I know more about it, it seems like something I'd really enjoy.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Do yourself a favor and watch it. If you like dry humor it's fantastic.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I genuinely hope you do. Not my cup of tea obviously but a lot are speaking very highly!

by CartoonistMedical632 5 months ago

Agree totally, OP. I wanted to like it, but it's not funny.

by maynard95 5 months ago

I'm too distracted by the mole on her neck to pay attention to anything she says.

by Pgislason 5 months ago

I didn't want to say...

by CartoonistMedical632 5 months ago

Now this is an unpopular opinion!

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Not so much

by CartoonistMedical632 5 months ago

I agree, she just tries too hard

by lehnergerman 5 months ago

It was done to death 20 years ago with Ali G, Dennis Pennis, Mrs Merton and so on. It's an unfunny formula, stupid person interviews clever person to throw them off.

by Langoshcolton 5 months ago

I disagree. Stupid questions challenge us to give better answers.

by Ok-Beautiful 5 months ago

Ali G was the best one of this type tbh.

by berthuels 5 months ago

The stupid needs to know the full matter to make this kind of loopholes. Maybe that's why you don't like it.

by WeekendLate 5 months ago

Even those worked best mostly as a small part of a wider show, like Philomena Cunk was during Charlie Brooker's show. As soon as it becomes all about them it gets old quickly.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

She's UNBEARABLE.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Okay Boomer

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Literally a Boomer Centric program?

by CartoonistMedical632 5 months ago

😂

by Hot-Honeydew 5 months ago

Each episode is funny for like 5 or so minutes. Then it becomes pretty predictable.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

This is actually unpopular, well done. She's a brilliant comedian. I cackle every time I watch anything with her in it. Some people just don't get her humor and that comes with the territory of being a dry humor comedian.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Agree. It's the present day Ali G. And I never found that funny either.

by Candid-Cucumber 5 months ago

Not everyone is educated enough to understand the jokes. Everything doesn't have to be meant for you

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Bruh the jokes arent that deep

by berthuels 5 months ago

Asking a historian if he felt a historical figure (Arthur) came a lot (Camelot) is not clever. Anyone who finds that funny is likely not very educated.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Hard enough to believe its not actually my lack of understanding. Just not my thing but each to their own

by CartoonistMedical632 5 months ago

No it doesn't lol

by Anonymous 5 months ago

To be fair you have to have a high IQ to understand Philomena Cunk

by Anonymous 5 months ago

That's a fair point

by CartoonistMedical632 5 months ago

That says much more about you than her.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

She's like the UK version of Borat, absolutely amazing.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

You know that Sacha Baron Cohen is British and went to Cambridge, right?

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I think they're referring to the character, I'm sure they're aware Borat isn't from Kazakhstan

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Of course they like the irony. Not like a fake person from an obvious FAKE country, dhah!! / s

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Funny brit girl, she as limited show on Netflix… Only funny if you can catch second degree humor. Drax, ans Draxe's wannabe will not find it funny. The jokes will go above their heads and the humor will be lost on them. Drax would catch the joke, because his reflexes are too good. But he might not find the joke funny because..you know" being the destroyer and stuff…"

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Yes.. but Borat didn't troll UK folks, he went to greatest country of US and A!

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Who or what the hell is Philomena Cunk?

by Rod34 5 months ago

She acts like a toddler who got an encyclopedia... Whatever floats ur boat man

by CartoonistMedical632 5 months ago
