-26 Seinfeld is better than The Office, amirite?

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Id say Curb your enthousiasm is just the refined version of Seinfeld, seeing as Larry David had years of experience from Seinfeld and defined the characters a bit more imo. But seeing as Seinfeld was the "original" that has its charm as well. Pretty much equal to me

Different times. Seinfeld ran when people watched linear TV. Everyone watched it.

Im a big sitcom fan, ive seen the office, friends, community, brooklyn 99 etc literally dozens of time each. Seinfeld is one of the most unfunny, outdated things i have tried to watch in my life. I couldnt believe how terrible it was.

That's how I feel about Friends ngl. Seinfeld holds up well imo. Friends doesn't

by Aminasmitham 5 months ago

It takes a very jewish kind of humor- as someone raised by one i find it hilarious.

How old are you?

by xprohaska 5 months ago

Well im slightly older than you so

Im not Jewish

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Yes, but that's not saying much…

Seinfeld is just not funny

by Anonymous 5 months ago

100% agree. I never could get into The Office despite everyone telling me it's the greatest show ever, in contrast I've rewatched all of Seinfeld 3 times over now and will probably again within the next year.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I don't like either of them. Which might be an even more unpopular opinion.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is better than Seinfeld. Same writer (Larry David). Season 7 (of Curb) even features the entire Seinfeld cast as themselves, they're doing a Seinfeld reunion that Larry is writing for sketchy reasons.

Seinfeld was weaker in seasons 2 and especially 1, plus it dropped off in season 8 and then fell off a cliff in season 9. Still the greatest sitcom and miles ahead of The Office

I think Seinfeld just appeals to American people. As a European, no one really cares about Seinfeld, I'm pretty sure it's relatively unknown here. I tried watching it, and I just didn't find it funny at all. It got a few chuckles here and there, but nothing more. And I don't find the characters interesting.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

The American Office is no good anyways.

by SchemeCommercial4236 5 months ago

I don't think a lot of the humor holds up.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Seinfeld or The Office?

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Seinfeld. I usually watch it stone face.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Agreed, the humour in Seinfeld definitely doesn't hold up (time will tell for the office although it is a fairly timeless concept) also doesn't help that Jerry Seinfeld is such a garbage person.

by Additional_Drag_8785 5 months ago

Humor doesn't age well. I don't think The Office will hold up either. For now I still find it funny though.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I never understood the idea of a show or film not aging well Why does it have to? What shows have aged well? I love watching old 80s and 90s shows like Cheers and Only fools and horses. Sure they're dated but I'm not really thinking about that when I watch it. For the record, Seinfeld is just straight garbage imo Have no idea how it was so big in the US but hey, I'm from Ireland, luckily we didn't really care for it.

by Franz18 5 months ago

It's definitely east coast US centric humor. I'm not surprised people in Ireland wouldn't like it.

Wasn't even a show really in the UK as BBC prioritised home grown comedy and it got the midnight slot. Was baffled with Aussies blowing their loads over the show when I moved here in 2004. Never even heard of it until then

For most art its not all that important but Seinfeld and the office are situation comedies (sitcoms), the jokes are based around everyday things, as time moves on those every day things can become less relative, giving the audience less to relate to and therefore less to laugh at.

by Additional_Drag_8785 5 months ago

But the office was one of the first to pivot into cringe culture and make it mainstream. While that may not age well it at least makes sense why Ricky Gervais and the Office is so highly regarded

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Yes I agree completely, that's where office has an edge, it's comedy delves from absurdity in a mundane environment, instead of pop culture references. That being said as was stated above by someone else comedy in general tends to have a short shelf life so we will see.

Because the Irish hate Jewish people

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Couldn't be further from the truth

by Anonymous 5 months ago

That's probably why it's an unpopular opinion

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Sienfield never told one funny joke. Ever.

by Overall_Low5927 5 months ago

Nope

Watched the first 4 seasons of Seinfeld. Barely laughed. Have no idea how people said it was better than its rival for some years in Friends. Very overrated.

by Franz18 5 months ago

Friends is even worse than The Office, I don't think I've ever laughed at friends a single time

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Friends is somewhat relatable with some of the characters. Seinfeld is the wrong kind of miserable middle class folk
