+50 Upstairs neighbors walking around is not annoying. amirite?

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I agree with you, I'm downstairs in my apt and I couldn't care less about noise upstairs. Like yeah it's a shared space there's gonna be noise.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

But could they not think to NOT install wood floors ? Worse yet a full size pool table in the middle of the living room? The owner should be paying ME to live here! It's so noisy I have to wear earplugs! Plenty of dog parks in the area too but what's closer than your own hallway? Doesn't matter what time it is and don't you dare say one word about it or you will regret it!

by Anonymous 5 months ago

full size pool table in the middle of the living room? Ok in this case they might me a little over the threshold of normal house noises everyone makes Tbh

We live in a downstairs apartment. The last one to live upstairs from us had a 7 year old we jokingly called 'thunderfoot'.You have to put up with some noise when you live in an apartment. This kid had nowhere to play in the winter and had to get rid of some of that energy. Yes, it was annoying at times, but it is what it is. We now have a single man living above us who is alot noisier than thunderfoot ever was, but there's no use complaining. People have to live their lives.

by Lawrence84 5 months ago

We lived in a downstairs apartment from a woman who would come home from clubbing at 3am and, with her combat boots still on, start vacuuming the floor.

by percival44 5 months ago

That's terrible! At least our upstairs neighbor is quiet at night, which I'm grateful for, as my husband is quite ill and needs his rest.

sponsored by your landlord

by florineaufderha 5 months ago

Lol perhaps it's the building construction? The only time ive ever had a serious issue with neighbor noise was when someone was practicing the piano during Game of Thrones air times.

by Josiahcole 5 months ago

Brough to you by the guy who lives on the last floor 😂

by Ok_Requirement_1696 5 months ago

Solely dependent on how well the apartments are built, what the upstairs neighbor considers "walking around", and honestly how big they are. But most ppl usually aren't complaining about walking around. They're complaining about MFS stomping and tap dancing at 3am

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Lol and some people just walk on their heels.. they really can't help it

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Love how you handled it! We had downstairs neighbors who had a kid who screamed bloody murder at bed time and when forced to wear gloves. So evening and early morning. I met them in the elevator several times and they apologized and the kid was very very cute. I said no worries, good to know why it was happening

by Westleycartwrig 5 months ago

there are some clueless people out there who walk heavy-footed and keep hitting their heels on the floor when walking, even barefoot

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Two types of upstairs people. 1: chill. Walk to one destination sit down and relax. Walk properly on their feet and are light footed. 2. Panic all the time. Run around everywhere. Walk on their heels. Heavy footed. Practically stomping around. Never sit down. Do a marathon in the room a full circuit. Talk on the phone at a volume louder then a earthquake warning siren. If you don't have a problem then you haven't met the two types.

by Mcclurelexus 5 months ago

I always tell my gf "oh i guess they didnt like where that couch was" because it sounds like my upstairs literally drags their furniture back and forth across the house every day 😅

by kaitlynleuschke 5 months ago

So what? It's their apartment. As long as it's not quiet hours, why do you get to tell them what they can and can't do in their apartment? If they want to run around their apartment in the daytime, why shouldn't they be able to?

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Because other people exist. Rationalizing selfish behavior like this is why we are where we are today. Realize you affect others and try to mitigate it the best you can.

by General-Try 5 months ago

"Running around during the day" is more than some noise, it is selfish behavior. Work out at the gym if you need to run. What you describe is pure main character syndrome and a disgusting habit to have l.

by General-Try 5 months ago

"Just deal with it" People do, but it's still annoying.

by karianne03 5 months ago

Yeah it's just a part of apartment living. If you want perfect quiet all the time save up for a house

by Double-Philosophy 5 months ago

Or look for something townhouse style to rent. Usually the shared walls are required to be higher grade per building code. There's exactly one spot in our townhouse where you can hear our neighbors if they're in a specific spot of their stairs. So pretty easy to not hear them.

by Jessikagrant 5 months ago

save up for a house Lol... Adorable.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

save up

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I mean it depends on how much sound they are making,

by Anonymous 5 months ago

My girlfriend's mom lives in an apartment. We visit during the day usually. The first time we he someone walking around everyone there gets so uptight. I'm like, it's 330 on a Saturday, stfu.

by cormierlouie 5 months ago

Try having them stomp around like elephants when you are trying to go to sleep for your 6am shift

by Ryleigh83 5 months ago

There's a guy in mine who genuinely stomps everywhere at lightning speed and then slams the big communal heavy door at 7am. We affectionately call him Stompy.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

My aunt was a pole dancer in college, so off hours. She told me her neighbors were so inconsiderate of early morning quiet hours when she would just get home and try to sleep, that she started doing her vacuuming at 3 am. Said she vacuumed the shared wall.

by Common_Tune 5 months ago

I agree, but also I'm terrified that my ceiling is just gonna cave in. My neighbors are always dropping heavy weights on their floor and it literally makes my chandelier quake!! Every time they wake over it it shakes and you can hear the apartment rattle! Yes its annoying but it's also terrifying!!

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Our upstairs neighbors can be so bad that our ceiling fan blades will bounce several inches. We routinely have to straighten wall hangings because of the vibrations. I was convinced they'd fall through to our unit the day they had a football party. The daughter is there full time and is an amazing neighbor. All of the issues are when her parents come to town. It's just stunning the difference.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Yep it's like they don't have any decency or common sense!

by Anonymous 5 months ago

A few weeks ago it sounded like the neighbors we share a wall with were banging on said shared wall with a hammer. In the same spot. For 12 hours stretches of time. This went on for 4 days. I'm sorry but WTF requires someone to hammer in the same place for hours on end, multiple days in a row…

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I think it depends if they have kids or not. And they're feet stomping changes day to day. I live under kids at the moment. They're not always annoying but they definitely can be when they decide to run around and scream for hours

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I stayed underneath a morbidly obese family. Every single step was noticed

by Hot_Caramel_5382 5 months ago

I didn't mind my upstairs neighbors much either. The issue was them playing bowling and jumping on the bed at 2am. every day.

by nitzschelempi 5 months ago

I wouldn't necessarily say it's not annoying, but it's definitely something you should expect if you live underneath another apartment.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

It's funny they blame the people renting the place and not the builders/landlords for not sound proofing the place.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I couldn't handle the sound of footsteps above me when I lived under other people, so I've made sure to rent upstairs apartments since. People who are sensitive to noise like I am shouldn't be renting downstairs units. Having a good pair of earplugs or noise cancelling headphones helps in the meantime though.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Same here. I won't live in a place with people above me. I get irritated with unwanted noises easily, that's my issue.

by Goldnercarmela 5 months ago

Same here, haha! I just won't do it. I have neighbors two floors down and I get annoyed by even the slightest noise. They're good people, but I can't stand noise that ain't mine 🤣

by Goldnercarmela 5 months ago

It is totally possible to dampen your footsteps a little so they aren't so loud and disturbing. I am an upstairs neighbor and I try to walk lightly. I feel like it's just common courtesy.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Same here. To the point I sometimes tell my sister to walk softer if she's visiting. Being upstairs i have become very conscious of how I walk around and do things, to mitigate as much annoyance as possible.

by Frosty_Arm 5 months ago

That's why you're the greatest DJ of our generation

by Anonymous 5 months ago

When I was looking at an apartment, the landlord said that she had to get rid of the previous tenant because she walked around the apartment at 8AM. I said that she was probably getting ready for work. Of course, I did not take the apartment, but I did have fun picturing installing bars on the ceiling so I could swing from one room to the other like a monkey.🐒

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Guess it depends on where you grew up. If you grew up in a house you might have a hard time moving to an apartment when you are older as you are not used to it. (Not true for everyone, but some) I have a friends house I visit often, and I know they are probably not, but it sounds like upstairs they are dropping a bowling ball on the floor. I think it is more a mystery for us, we are think what could possibly be making that sound!!?!??

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I completely agree. It's just part of living in an apartment. People act like I should be foaming at the mouth and flying into a rage because I heard a sound in MY home. I just tune it out

by Relevant-Tell 5 months ago

You can't really tell other people how they feel, lol.

by lynnroob 5 months ago

Hard agree. Obviously, continuous, egregiously loud behavior is a genuine problem, but just day-to-day stuff? Deal with it. You can't get mad every time the person above you has to walk over to the fridge.

by AlfalfaLegitimate645 5 months ago

And if you're someone who absolutely CANNOT handle even minimal noise, don't live downstairs.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

You could walk without stomping around and smashing your heels into the floor. Also, I highly doubt theyre complaining about the walking, there's literally something else here and you're not telling us the whole story

by joany19 5 months ago

Its kids running around that's the problem

by Anonymous 5 months ago

It can be. I had a neighbour that would always walk around in hells on her timber floor. It was terrible

by Anonymous 5 months ago

In my experience it was only an issue cause they refused to cut the dogs nails so at like 5am and onwards all I ever heard was CLICK CLAP CLICK CLAP. Another time was when they decided to randomly play the drums for 10 minutes throughout the day.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Yeah I actually agree and have no problem with people living in their apartments with a certain level of normal noise. However I use to rent someone's basement and the way grown ass adults literally stomped and ran down their stairs every.single.day was like…? Seriously???

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Sometimes the water in the cup on my desk visibly ripples from my upstairs neighbor's "walking" around, is that a sign he's too loud or am i just overly sensitive?

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Depends on the walking around. Bare foot or while wearing socks? Sure, not a problem. But walking around late at night while wearing shoes? Come on dude

by Fayleonel 5 months ago

When I lived in an apartment, I just put up with it. One time though, we had neighbors upstairs; the woman would cry out after some loud bumps. After a few days of this I got concerned and called the police. I was thinking a response like Die Hard where the cruiser comes around and checks on the people upstairs. 5 minutes later there is a knock at the door. 5 or 6 armed swat guys in full body armor with heavy weapons standing outside. One of them without a helmet introduces himself politely and wants me to confirm which apartment it is. Came down a few minutes later and said they didn't see anything, but if I should hear anything, don't hesitate to call again. Being from the UK I was gobsmacked..... and would think twice about calling the police again for suspicious domestic disturbance. I never actually met that neighbor. They were very quiet the next few months and then we moved to our first house.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I wear headphones for most things and have a loud box fan for white noise when sleeping, so I pretty much forget I even have neighbors.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

It really depends on how they walk around, my roommate slams down his heel with every step causing the entire apartment to shake, I feel really bad for our downstairs neighbors

by Anonymous 5 months ago

My place feels haunted when they do it at 3am though

by Anonymous 5 months ago

My upstairs has a kid with a basketball and a karaoke machine. I wish i was just annoyed by them walking

by kaitlynleuschke 5 months ago

I live on the 3rd floor of my apartment. Weirdly enough um downstairs neighbors stomp like elephants and it shakes my curio cabinet glass door when they do.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

It can be though.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

People can walk in a manner that isn't as loud to their neighbors when the building is poorly constructed.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

My upstairs neighbours walk around from 6am until 2am, and they're walking on their heels, it's freaking loud and annoying and I really wonder why people walk that much up and down in their apartment. Sure they are aloud to but still, annoying. I myself am very conscious about noise and try to go on nobody's nerves, walk silently, listen to music silently etc

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Dependes, if they are walking around I don't mind. but if they are like my upstairs neighbors that wake up at 5am, put on the shoes with heels and walk around stomping and draggin chairs from one side to the other until 7am they are annoying otherwise when they are walking regularly I don't mind.

by pfunk 5 months ago

I keep hearing a…clomping.

by CreepyTelephone8843 5 months ago

The girls above me have a DDR pad and are under 30

by Strict-Fortune-4860 5 months ago

I'm just confused because you are trying to use logic to determine something isn't annoying. But that isn't really what it means to be annoying. It sounds like what you are saying is "Sure it is annoying, but it is understandable and inevitable, therefore it isn't annoying." But just because something is understandable and unavoidable doesn't mean it isn't annoying.

by Logical-Composer 5 months ago

But IT IS annoying beyond belief, so I invested in a nice pair of active noise-cancelling headphones and never take them off. Problem solved. Now I just pray every damn day affordable housing becomes available in my rural area so I can finally move.

by Traditional_Abies 5 months ago

What?! lol

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I used to feel SO guilty when the floor would creak under my feet when walking, but I can't do that anymore .

by Fit_Conclusion 5 months ago

I agree… In fact I have EXTREMELY noisy upstairs neighbors who breed chihuahuas. That is ultimately THE WORST scenario you could possibly think of, the walking around is minimal concern by comparison. I also had a basement room growing up so I'm pretty used to hearing creaking footsteps overhead, to me it's just something that is expected when you have someone living above you.

by bhomenick 5 months ago

I love when people generalize their very specific experience to everyone else's experience

by zeldamorissette 5 months ago

"But people have to walk around their house it is inevitable." That logic. It's necessary, therefore it's not annoying.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Yes it is. Apartment living is annoying as hell. I don't want to see, hear, smell my neighbors when I'm in my house.

by Sudden-Feed-7712 5 months ago

I should not hear my upstairs neighbors vacuum at 6am. Have never heard any prior tenants for 5 years until she moved in. LOUD thuds randomly late at night too, it's crazy.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Some people walk heel first, hard. That is significantly noisier than if you land with the ball of your foot first.

by One-Actuator2233 5 months ago

It's not about role reversal. I don't want to listen to it and I don't want other people to listen to me. Thus I live in a detached single family home far away from neighbors. I don't want to hear you walk. I don't want to hear you talk. I don't want to hear your dog bark. I don't want to see your lights when it's dark

by Zkozey 5 months ago

I honestly just zone it out

by Anonymous 5 months ago

I do as well if cuz like other said rent a town house or move somewhere where where your. Not under someone if owning is out of the question

by Anonymous 5 months ago

The sound is annoying. It's usually not their fault, though, unless they installed their own floor and messed up the sound insulation.

by Jessyca38 5 months ago

Wait until your upstairs neighbors have five obese kids.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

If they are walking around with shoes indoors then they are ar fault..

by Anonymous 5 months ago

People get to wear shoes indoors in their own homes. I personally don't, because my feet are happier without, but every household gets to pick if they're shoes off or shoes on. My dad can't go anywhere that's shoes off because he needs weird orthopedic shoes, and that annoys me.

by Anonymous 5 months ago

Looking back when I was in school... my roommate and I were professional upstairs neighbors... especially on the weekends when we'd be drinking all day. We weren't quite at all and I kinda feel bad about it. But hey, we were drunk, dumb, college kids.
