+40 American Chocolate is disgusting. amirite?

by Kamille34 4 months ago

Ghirardelli isn't bad.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Because small kids don't care as long as it is sugary, so why get the expensive stuff for them?

by Anonymous 4 months ago

I'm not exaggerating when I say this, but Hersheys in the US tastes like vomit to me, it is horrible. I first tasted Hersheys in NZ and it was amazing so that was a big surprise. That's interesting to hear that it is the cocoa percentage, I had always assumed it was something to do with preservatives.

by ottilie62 4 months ago

It is horrible, I always seen it being popular on internet and when I tried it first time I did not even finish the chocolate, literally threw it away

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Cadbury in the United States is made by Hershey's, aka the Choco-vomit company.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

If US Cadbury is the only Cadbury someone has tasted, they haven't tasted Cadbury at all but a variation of Hershey's.

by Blickdeangelo 4 months ago

I think you may be confused by Cadbury. There is nothing vomity about it. Hersheys taste like vomit mixed with feet. Cadbury in Australia is delicious. Not the best but high up there!

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Ah yeah most of what you're saying is more sugar and filler than actual chocolate. My favorite is stoneground chocolate from Mexico. Best texture and taste combo for my palette.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Tbf, most people I know hate those here in the US

by Anonymous 4 months ago

It's actually a specific ingredient (can't remember which one and I'm too lazy to look it up) but they tried to ban it from chocolate in America at one point and everyone demanded it back. Feel free to correct me if y'all want but that's the gist of the story

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Butyric acid.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Basically America got used to gross chocolate, they tried to fix it and customers complained so they went back to the gross method.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

You're right, the ingredient is butyric acid. And the same "ingredient" is found in vomit, so OP (and many other people including me) is very justified in thinking it tastes like vomit. Because it literally does.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

I support y'all! But as an American I don't taste it at all ๐Ÿ˜ญ

by Anonymous 4 months ago

That's just because you're so used to vomit chocolate whenever I have Hersheys I can taste it instantly.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Possibly, but are you sure it isn't like a cilantro thing? Like to some people cilantro tastes like soap and to other it doesn't?

by Anonymous 4 months ago

The Danish word for butyric acid is "butter acid" because it smells like rotten butter.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

American bulk made "chocolate" candy is trash. The last hershey bar I had tasted like chalk.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Me as I'm eating Whittakers rn

by Fit_Amoeba 4 months ago

Sweet! Which one?

by Anonymous 4 months ago

The caramel one

by Fit_Amoeba 4 months ago

Dark chocolate and salted caramel or creamy caramel. It's really none of my business. Lol! I love them all.๐Ÿ™‚

by Anonymous 4 months ago

CADBURRY! that was the caramel travesty I was trying to think of. Tastes like someone farted on a disappointment sandwhich.

by Kamille34 4 months ago

Cadbury is manufactured in the US by Hershey's but they aren't an American company. They're English. Birmingham England to be exact.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Bloody Kiwi's thinking everything is better than ours ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Aw bro... have some Whitakers Blondie.๐Ÿ˜„

by Anonymous 4 months ago

The stuff we called chocolate in the United States is not chocolate It's crap.

by Altruistic_Big 4 months ago

I tried a Hershey's bar for the first time and almost threw up, it straight up tastes like bile?

by EmergencyJello 4 months ago

"like tongue kissing the inside of a festering asshole" is one of the best sentences ever written.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Your taste buds are broken if you think Ghiradelli is bad

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Aren't they are Swiss company?

by Kamille34 4 months ago

They are from San Francisco.

by fadelernesto 4 months ago

No, they're based in San Francisco, CA IIRC

by Warm-Button-9635 4 months ago

Ok I am about to give a really unpopular opinion. All chocolate is bad. Hear me out. Until recently I loved chocolate but then I had sweetened hazelnut butter and sweetened pistachio cream. It made me realize that everything I like about chocolate actually comes from flavors that have nothing to do with chocolate(I usually eat chocolates that have some nut flavoring in them). Like I loved the hazelnut butter way more than I do nutela. The coco taste actually makes it less delicious(and if you hate dark chocolate you would probably also react the same). So now I am actually thinking about combining hazelnut butter or pistachio cream with melted white compound chocolate(it would be a lot more complicated with normal white chocolate and the butter would soften it anyway) and create a bar that tastes like hazelnut/pistachios

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Wow, I'll have to try the pistachio cream, any suggestions?

by Kamille34 4 months ago

oh i am in not in the US so i don't know what brands you have access to

by Anonymous 4 months ago

I disagree with "all chocolate is bad". But I love smooth hazelnut chocolate.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Yep I have never been a fan of chocolate. Such a strong harsh taste.

by Content_Concern6857 4 months ago

Hersheys chocolate processing has a step in it that gives the chocolate a better snap, but introduces that vomit flavor as a side effect. I believe it's butyric acid that gives it the flavor.

by daren38 4 months ago

Bingo. Not plugging any video, this is just the first one in the search reasoning

by Consistent_Top_3728 4 months ago

Milka chocolate is the best I've ever had, it's Swiss, I think. If you haven't had it try it!

by cormierjacklyn 4 months ago

They don't have German, Swiss or Belgian chocolate in the US? I mean, buying Hershey's is a choice...usually a bad one.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

They absolutely do, and Ghirardelli for a local choice (and others). Anyone only eating Hershey's is doing so by choice lol. ETA: OP specifically mentions Toblerone, which I'm pretty sure is in most grocery store check out displays. Very accessible.

by Sensitive-Chest-8960 4 months ago

Seed's candies is the way to go. Nothing compares!

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Agreed! Though I would take it a step further, I wouldn't consider it to be chocolate at all!

by DisastrousFruit9499 4 months ago

Chocolate ain't what it used to be.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

I agree her she is trash

by kilbackdavion 4 months ago

Tolberone...๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

by Content_Concern6857 4 months ago

i don't like any chocolate lol

by Nigel78 4 months ago

Have you ever tried Hershey Symphony?

by velda18 4 months ago

The widely available chocolate you can find at a gas station is crap. There is good chocolate if you're looking in the right places.

by Klutzy_Block 4 months ago

M&Ms SPECIFICALLY taste like little vomit pellets.

by Kamille34 4 months ago

Hershey's chocolate tastes like vomit. It's literally is the nastiest chocolate. It's overly sweet too.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

American chocolate has butyric acid in it. It's the same acid found in vomit and Parmesan. Cadbury in the U.S.? Vomit. Cadbury in the U.K.? Delicious

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Hershey and Mars use a recipe involving more oil than milk if I'm remembering correctly. I know it tastes like puke to people who didn't grow up with it. I did grow up with it, but it doesn't taste very good too me as an adult. I would rather have Ghirardelli or Lindt.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Tony's

by Anonymous 4 months ago

See's chocolate is delicious and I don't even like chocolate

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Totally agree, thankfully Toblerone is easy to find in the US

by Potential_Still_6978 4 months ago

Tastes the same to me. But I eat like a 5 year old, so.

by Weary_Dragonfruit 4 months ago

Sorry but Tombelrone made me laugh ๐Ÿ˜… Lindt brand is good!

by Anonymous 4 months ago

That's more common knowledge then unpopular opinion.

by ekassulke 4 months ago

Mass produced chocolate in general is pretty meh, you can't really expect too much (Hershey's in particular has a veryโ€ฆdistinctive taste though as others have mentioned), as far as American brands Scharffen Berger is pretty good though. But generally my favorite chocolate category is "dark milk" and you can't really find that outside of small producers anyway (I do wish it would catch on a bit more though lol)

by Sad-Goat-6252 4 months ago

Everything American is inferior

by christ09 4 months ago

bait.

by Vegetable_Account753 4 months ago

Yes, and it's not just the candy.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

lol Japanese chocolate isn't close to Ghirardelli or even Hersheys gtfoh lol

by Norbert97 4 months ago

Are you saying Hersheys is better than Japanese chocolate? Gross.

by Kamille34 4 months ago

What Japanese chocolate do you like? I don't remember anything standing out from when we lived there. Better than Hershey's, sure, but there are so many other culinary realms where they excel, I never even noticed the chocolate

by Sensitive-Chest-8960 4 months ago

Meiji Milk chocolate is my favorite! There's these wafers likea Twix, but no chocolate on the outside... sorry i can't remember the name

by Kamille34 4 months ago

Reading this I remembered trying a coriander flavored chocolate from the 7-11. Not the best, not the worst, but a contender for most interesting for sure lol

by Sensitive-Chest-8960 4 months ago

Ah because even chocolate is not good in the United States? What's good there then?

by mozell20 4 months ago

Hollywood movies and Sports to distract us from gestures wildy and violently at everything Also, the BBQ is tight.

by Kamille34 4 months ago

Finally someone said it. *

by OpeningTechnology 4 months ago

Or, and I know this might be a bit pricy for the poors, you could import. I eat almost exclusively German and Belgian chocolate. Most of our economy tier chocolate is terrible. Our ultra-premium is ultra-premium. You pay for what you get, and $5 gets you a better candy than $.75. I like Lindt or Ghirardelli. There is, however, a particular chemical in Hersheys that literally tastes like vomit. Most can't taste it, some can. That chemical is butyric acid.

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Bro, I tasted vomit when I eat these. I dont know what to tell you. To me, they taste like there's a party in my mouth, and everyone's throwing up.
