+28 Jaden Smith got way too much crap for saying "How can mirrors be real if our eyes aren't real?", amirite?

He wore a castle on his head to an awards show, that guys whole life is nonsense

by claire22 2 months ago

Wasn't he 15 when he wrote that? I tend to give kids the benefit of the doubt.

by InformationOk4533 2 months ago

He's 26

Your life ain't safe from review and neither is his, the thing about spouting pseudo philosophical junk is people can interpret it in a thousand different ways that make it seem profound, but the initial statement is just moronic. Remember this kid got the best education money can buy and he's still an idiot wearing a house on his head.

Yes, I was explicitly speaking for myself. The focus was on what he meant to say with the isolated quote, not a character review of his entire life. That's extra.

by InformationOk4533 2 months ago

Yeah it's unfortunate he had to be taught that lesson by the internet and not a writing teacher in private. But it could've been me

by InformationOk4533 2 months ago

I've only brought it up once, this hasn't been an extended discussion between us 😂

by InformationOk4533 2 months ago

well there is a big difference between stupid and unpopular and im not sure exactly where this falls...

Really undermined yourself there

My favorite take on Jaden is the Key & Peele sketch. he's not a bad person, but clearly lives in a different reality from everyone else, and that disconnect comes out in hilarious ways

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I've never seen that but thank you for recommending, have to check it out. Sounds hilarious

by InformationOk4533 2 months ago

Yes, the delivery was definitely awkward. I used to write like that when I was 15 and wanted to seem profound. I just recognized that there was something traceable he was intending to say.

by InformationOk4533 2 months ago

I mean after hearing literally anything else he has to say, I don't have any faith that that was what he meant haha

by Luettgenelecta 2 months ago

From what I've been told, other things definitely would kick up a smokescreen. Though with that one in particular, I can see something legit being lost in translation. Reminds me of my "poetry" at 13 lol

by InformationOk4533 2 months ago

He got crap for that because he was also a rich self-entitled kid building on his dad's name and status to get popular and build a following... Of course you're right that at that point he was still a kid, and we all said stupid stuff at that time... He really should not have been let anywhere near a social media account which is more on his parents.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

He had his whole history of weird "deep" tweets, that teens throughout the ages have been doing. Without the publicity of who his dad was, they would have been forgotten. Though this one was equal parts self-aware and arrogant... If I Were White and Not Will Smith's "silly" Son I Would Be The Most Respected Philosopher Of Our And All Time.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Ahhh, ok. So it was essentially part of a "set", then? Of other things he was known for?

by InformationOk4533 2 months ago

I'm not really look that deep into his career or lifestyle, I was just focusing on the quote in isolation really.

by InformationOk4533 2 months ago

He was 15 when he said that. People are WAY too hard on Jayden Smith. What did he ever donto anyone? Yeah he had dumb tweets as a teen like all of us under the age of 35… And I like his music too!

Yeeeah, Socratic syndrome is a real thing at that age with kids who actually like to write stuff. I exasperated my literature teacher for always wanting to use the bigass smart-sounding words for no reason.

by InformationOk4533 2 months ago

And you probably looked as foolish as he does just to be fair, but the real problem is he believes it and still acts like a weirdo today and is no longer a teen. They didn't have an issue with this one quote they just generally look at him as a caricature of a human who has made himself out to be a pretty big joke.

by Away-Personality-404 2 months ago

Oh not probably, I definitely looked foolish. I could be killed with my own old writing by the force of pure cringe. Just had to grow out of it. I guess it's not always the same for everyone though. I never really followed Jaden's campaign of personality, basically all I know of him was that one quote lol

by InformationOk4533 2 months ago

I did miss the point. Fair enough.

by lacy83 2 months ago

I actually read it to mean something else sensible, but not this: I read it as saying, "how can we know things about the outside world if we don't even know that we exist!" which is a sensible articulation of skeptical scenarios in philosophy lol.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Actually that tracks too. Pretty solid take
