+36 Crowd work comedy is not funny and very lazy, amirite?

to be devils advocate, the reason why you see so much crowd work on social media is bc if they put all of the actual jokes on tiktok you wouldnt buy their bigger project (special) or be suprised at their shows.

If done well I think it's super impressive - improv is harder than memorizing jokes imo 🤷‍♀️

But not harder than writing (good) jokes. The bar for impressing people with off-the-cuff jokes is way lower.

I just learned about this genre of stand up recently. I watched a bunch of Matt Rife (I think that was his name) videos on Facebook. Wasn't very funny.

Rife's a bad example. Check out Jeff Arcuri

There are some veterans who are masters at it. It takes quite a lot of skills to be funny right there, right now.

Why don't you try it OP. Make it easy, just use your friends as the audience... if you have any.

Found the crowd work comedian

It takes a different skill set than standup. Standup is performance of a scripted routine. Crowdwork is all improv, it can be hilarious but it is hit and miss because it is unscripted and created on stage in the moment.
