Bella Ramsay was a terrible casting choice for Ellie in TLOU, amirite?

Honestly, Bella doesn't look anything like Ellie Michael Fassbender doesn't look like Steve Jobs. Ashton Kutcher did look like Steve Jobs, but guess who was the better performer? Acting isn't about who is the best lookalike. It's about who can carry that role. Episode 6-8 Ellie is exactly like the Ellie from the game. The range is there, but she doesn't beat the audience over the head with it. Not a bad actor in the slightest. Those that bring up that bogus claim that "Cailee Spaeny was in the running for that role" have no idea what they're talking about, and in worst cases, are referring to an article which doesn't even state that she was in the running.

You were probably perfectly ok with Joel being played by a Chilean bloke who only vaguely resembles the video game character, but not some young girl who wasn't exactly like the game? Her acting was decent from what I saw. The show is just a different thing, I think you see that from the early episode with the gay couple. It's brilliant on its own terms.

I have never understood why the actor needs to look like the character. If you're looking for an exact copy of the game, just go play the game.

Well, appearance can be pretty important. If you cast someone who looks similar to Ellie, people can relate better.

I agree with this. I think Bella is a great actor, but they‘re not the right casting for Ellie. Not even looks wise, they have that little face that Ellie has, that‘s just… „Ellie". But I think their acting energy in itself did not fit the part. They‘re a great actor. Just not for Ellie. But it is what it is.

You can say she doesn't look like the character, fair enough. I think slating her acting ability is ludicrous though, IMO she was absolutely brilliant in TLOU. And Game of Thrones for that matter.

I was skeptical when before I watched but she definitely has the stuff I think more of a valid complaint is Pedro and Bella aren't trying to do similar Voices which took more getting used to. Im actually have a hot Take that I haven't seen while I think Pedro was really good (especially during the scene where he confesses to tommy) he really kinda phoned in the final scene while Bella did a good job with the final scene.
