I don't like terraria or stardew valley, amirite?
by Minute_Resident5 months ago
This sounds like a you problem. Build a chicken coup is overwhelming? You want chickens on your farm, you need a place for them. How much to water your plants? Once a day. Some things are a bit much, sure. But those seem like weird examples

I think he just hates non-linear games in general because he'll have to figure the stuff out by himself

I don't think these games are comparable.

Stardew Valley is too overwhelming? If there's one game that non-gamers will actually play because of how simple and easy to grasp everything is in it, it's Stardew. It's probably the one game that provides all basic information from the UI and menus. This feels more like rage bait than an actually unpopular opinion.

I can't believe I bought terraria without playing it first. What a terrible game.

I definitely bounced off terraria hard the first time i played alone. a friend asked me to give it another chance, and after he showed me the ropes, I sank a few hundred hours into the game

I've recently tried it and cannot get into for the life of me. I enjoy similar games but just something about it turns me off to it.

You not liking something isn't an opinion

Agreed. I will die on this hill. This isn't unpopular preferences. An opinion would be "X isn't a good game and is overrated".
by Anonymous5 months ago
the opinion of OP is that "the UI and general game structure and mechanics are too overwhelming"

Don't play them, next opinion.

Terraria I can honestly understand, it's jam packed but definitely hard to grasp without the wiki. Stardew tho ... what did you expect from it? Most of Stardew's farming mechanics are pretty rudimentary. Sounds more like you don't like the idea of farming/harvest moon type games.

I think I played it on switch. As an adult who makes many mistakes at staying up too late, I don't just automatically pass out wherever I am, I'm not drunk. It would be interesting to let people drink say tea or coffee for a few spare minutes though. I get it's a hard mechanic (as in it is built into the way the game plays, not that it's difficult to grasp) it just didn't click with me when I played it. I recognize it has its pillar in gaming and glad people enjoy it. Maybe I'll go back and retry it some day. :)

Lol I appreciate the info! Yeah if i get to trying it again I'm getting it on steam. I figured the hard set tone was for world progression, I just wasn't patient when I tried it.

most game HUD / UIs have way more information than stardew does

Finally a real Unpopular Opinion

I understand stardew being too much. It's not relaxing because of the time limit per day, so you feel rushed to complete the community center. Terraria on the other hand is one of the greatest game ever made. I suggest reading a bit of the wiki. Once you know where to go, it becomes a lovely grind

Terraria is a game where you micromanage your equipment to take on bosses that are larger than the average building in the game. It's designed for incredibly granular crafting to take on incredibly big enemies. I will say though the meta that's evolved from these is kind of ridiculous. It never quite sat right with me that the player is half expected to construct absurd boss arenas bigger than their actual homes to optimize their experience fighting those bosses.

I don't know about Terraria, but I tried Starview Valley a while ago and boy, it just didn't click with me. I think maybe because I'm older? I used to love walking around endlessly in 8-bit graphics. I just have no time for it anymore. If someone enjoys it, great! I have yet to figure out Minecraft, also.

Youre kind of making me want to play stardew again all of a sudden

Skill issue.

Make harvest moon great again

Tried terreria, and I'm right there with you on that one.

Much of Gen Z gamers grew up on Terraria. Are you okay? This is precisely why this is an unpopular opinion, because most gamers (and most gen Z gamers) love Terraria.
by Anonymous5 months ago
Well, just take my opinion as another unpopular opinion of an unpopular opinion then.
