+47 The 21st Century Should Have Started January 1, 2000, amirite?

by Anonymous 4 months ago

Once you're 20 years old, you're in your twenties You are somehow simultaneously overthinking this, and also not even thinking through your own comparison. You are 20 years old a full 20 years after birth. When you were born you were zero years old. But we didn't have a year zero, so January 1, 2001 is the first day after the passing of 2000 years. And while technically the year 2000 was part of the 20th century, that is not saying it is part of the 90s. Different thing. The 90s or 2000s/aughts, etc, just refers to what the numbers are.

Once you're 20 years old, you're in your twenties right? Your twenties don't start at 21 Because you're 0 when you're born. Your age is measured in days/weeks/months. When you turn 20 you are 20 years old, on the day of your 20th birthday you are a full 20 years old. There was no Year Zero, it started 1AD, so what's 10 years after 1AD?

It's more of the point that it's a round even number. Where the centuries start and end are all made up by people. 100 years could be a measurement of well…100 years regardless of where we start and end that measurement.

Where the centuries start and end are all made up by people A century is 100 years. There was no year 0, so what's 100 years after 1AD? 100 years regardless of where we start and end that measurement. the first century AD is 1-101, 2-102 is a century, but only in that its a period of 100 years.

But where each 100 year period starts and ends is made up. No reason not to make it round numbers

That's the case regardless of if it started in 2000 or 2001

Math is hard

And so the first century BC is year 101 BC to 2 BC? That's what you're advocating for?

There clearly needed to be a zero year between the before and after times.

Alas, it did not.

You tried. You failed, but you tried.

I didn't try anything. It's simply my opinion

by Anonymous 4 months ago

You tried to make an argument. It wasn't very good

by Minute_Constant_1158 4 months ago

Nah you're not an idiot because it doesn't make sense that you weren't right

NOW you tell me I've been living in the wrong century! Well... it does explain a lot.
