Basketball team - Seltic The culture - Keltic

by Ok-Memory-693 3 months ago

The Glasgow based Soccer team Celtic FC is also Seltic

by nadersadye 3 months ago

but why pronounce it wrong just for the basketball team?

by DiamondEuphoric 3 months ago

Because that's how the team's name is pronounced?

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Who tf cares lol

by Crystalswaniaws 3 months ago

Just think of it like any other name, it's pronounced how it's pronounced. What else is there to say? You're gonna argue how someone's name is pronounced lol?

by Emergency-Annual 3 months ago

It's like Caribbean vs pirates of the Caribbean

by SoilAnnual5967 3 months ago

Do Americans use the ‘English' pronunciation of Caribbean when referring to the films?

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Indeed

"Car-Eye-Bean"

by Oconnelldeshawn 3 months ago

A lot of the world will pronounce it exactly the same so that might not be the best example 😅

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Wait why do I pronounce those differently?

by Flaky_Touch 3 months ago

it's boston they say lots of stuff weird

by Fluid-Pass7279 3 months ago

If you pronounce Boston Celtics as Keltics…you are wrong. It's Seltics. Even if it's the Kelts and Keltic everywhere else. Also the Scottish soccer club Celtic is also Seltic

by Anonymous 3 months ago

wait til you find out about how american towns named versailles are pronounced

by Fair-Power-8661 3 months ago

It's not wrong, that's the way the team's name is pronounced lol

by Flat_Syrup 3 months ago

*Glasgow based football club

by VastOwl 3 months ago

Fair enough, Americans do get easily confused so nice of you to keep it simple for them

by VastOwl 3 months ago

How would you feel if someone had the same name as you but pronounced it differently? People get to decide how their name is pronounced. I don't see any reason a sports franchise and the community surrounding it can't pronounce it however they want.

by Negative_Repeat_1594 3 months ago

Unless you support (Glasgow) Celtic So this is not only unpopular but wrong

by Anonymous 3 months ago

The culture is pronounced keltic but the football team is pronounced seltic. So like, you're right in the general sense but you're wrong in the specifics of the football team.

by mcglynnmollie 3 months ago

A famous football club in Glasgow would like to have a word.

by welchkareem 3 months ago

I'm so glad I've never had them misfortune of someone pronouncing Celtic with a S sound and not a K sound.

by Xernser 3 months ago

Never heard of the football club Celtic?

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Celt is pronounced with a hard 'k' sound except for the Boston Celts. They've been the Boston 's'elts for too long

by briellekilback 3 months ago

and Glasgow-based Celtic FC

by Anonymous 3 months ago

The basketball and soccer teams are pronounced Seltic. Only the culture is Keltic. Why? Just do own research

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Well, Glasgow Celtic pronounce it Seltic and pronouncing the club name as keltic would be wrong. Most of the time it's keltic but there are exceptions

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Team names are pronounced in a different way than the word for the ancient culture. You're just wrong bro, sorry.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

OP is a hun

by nina78 3 months ago

the name of the basketball team has nothing to do with the Celts of Ireland. It is actually just short for "sell tickets" see?

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Letter sounds evolve and change over centuries with wars and dominance/dying of cultures. It's not that deep.

by Suitable-Junket490 3 months ago

True, although the popular nba team is pronounced with a soft c. Other than that you are correct as far as I know.

by Emergency-Annual 3 months ago

I totally agree with you. However, I also follow the Boston Celtics, and "Seltics" flows off the tongue so much more smoothly. Fortunately, I'm of the belief that the only person to whom I have to justify this dubious logic is myself.

by Individual-Sir 3 months ago

The only time I use seltics is when I'm referring to the sports team, which is rarely. I figure it's their name if they want to pronounce it that way, everything else is "K" sound.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Celtic pronounced with an "s" sound is just an older pronunciation, it's not necessarily less correct. I don't know why sports teams seem to have gone with the older pronunciation, but that's the way it went.

by Relative-Okra2649 3 months ago

I bet they also pronounce GIF as JIF or Giraffe as Jiraffe

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Have you gotten popped in the mouth for correcting someone in Boston on this yet? I'm not condoning violence. I just know how Boston works.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Frazier? Is that you?

by Anonymous 3 months ago

The only valid possible pronounciation is the one the founder decided it would be. So your opinions is just a wrong fact, and not and opinion.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Is it not possible for the basketball team to have a different pronunciation than the ethnicity?

by Anonymous 3 months ago

We should throw everyone who pronounces it Seltic into a jail kell.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Caesar in latin should be pronounced "Kaesar"

by Sanforddillan 3 months ago

Completely agree, also hate when people pronounce resource "ruhzorce"

by Anonymous 3 months ago

I pronounce it "leprechaun"

by Affectionate_Bad6922 3 months ago

Hardly unpopular.
