I don't think slang is meant to be more efficient, at least not all slang is, so not really a good point to why not to say it, when that most likely was never the point of it.

Not more than so many other slang terms, after some time you get use to it, and online it makes more sense, as W or L is easier and faster than winner or loser.

Slang always sounds dumb. It's like a word that connects you with people of fellow demographics. Sure, it may be stupid, but every generation has done it to the previous generation. It is easier to understand and accept than hate on it. Now people can use it slang in terrible cues and context, but that's just human nature. You won't get a dubski every time
