What is this about if not sit down restaurants?

by ndach 2 months ago

McDonald's, I guess?

Maybe it's different in the US and other parts of the world, but many bistros and restaurants where I'm from are "order at the counter." They're still sit-down restaurants, but you have to go up and order and pay at the till, instead of having a waiter come to the table and take your order.

We've got places like that in the US too, especially for our fast food. For that, we tend to go up individually and buy our own food

Speaking ourely for sit-dowb restaurants, not fast food, it's fairly common here that if you if you're in a group of four or so people, one person will just type everyone's order onto their phone and go order for everyone. It saves everyone getting up and clogging the order line, and the others just transfer money to the one ordering.

If it excludes sit down restaurants, then when is this a thing? In the drive thru?

by mitchellfranco 2 months ago

Wouldn't that take more time? Those places normally have multiple employees putting together your burrito/sandwich so one person can't naturally direct all of them at once as to what the group wants, but multiple people can

by mitchellfranco 2 months ago

The only argument I can see for this is a drive thru. But I also haven't been through a drive thru with someone besides my wife in at least 8 years, and I order for her, so… Any other form of restaurant this is dumb.

Don't most people have the driver give the order? That's the only scenario I can see where this makes sense.

by North_Newspaper_3767 2 months ago

This is idiotic.

My mom's done this with our friends and family before. Not unpopular

by Dull_Carpet415 2 months ago

some people wanna ask the server for recommendations because they've never been there before? drive thrus yeah agree but most people do already so not really sure what you're talking about?

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Waiting for what? The order doesn't make it to the kitchen any faster just because one person said the entire thing instead of each person in the group saying what they wanted lmao
