+50 Millie Bobby Brown is not a good actress. amirite?

by Away-Paramedic 3 months ago

This is a very very very popular opinion

💯

by Anonymous 3 months ago

The strangest thing about stranger things is how it lasted more than 3 seasons

by Impossible_Peach_630 3 months ago

Apparently she refuses to watch movies because they are too long and she doesn't have the attention span for it. That explains A LOT.

by No_Wedding6803 3 months ago

Wait for real??

by Similar_Calendar_953 3 months ago

Yeah. I can't remember when or where she said it but she was pretty much like "i don't watch movies"

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Someone pointed out her dramatic eyebrow wiggling and now I can't unsee it.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Ophh not the gifted and talented kids being mediocre adults ahhaha

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Zendaya and Tom Holland are exceptions, I guess.

by Historical-Gift6188 3 months ago

Neither had a major role until they were adults. Sure, Zendaya costarred in a couple Disney Channel sitcoms, and Tom Holland was in a flop indie movie, but it's really not anything comparable to Stranger Things or Harry Potter.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Also like, how many child actors actually go to acting school these days?

by Anonymous 3 months ago

I think it's about getting too successful too fast or young. You've been told you're doing good so you don't really grow past that. You don't need to try that hard to get good parts so you're not forced to learn how to do it properly. You're now in too high profile stuff to fail so you play it safe

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Also, she doesn't like cinema. Shes said publicly that she gets bored watching something for so long. Someone without an appreciation for the craft and art will never have the same degree of motivation as someone who's in it because they're passionate.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Millie was bullied by her cast mates while filming Stranger Things and she seems kind of awkward in general. You can see it during some of their publicity events/interviews. I imagine all the sudden attention she got as a lead child actor on a hit show combined with being othered at work by her peers probably didn't help her acting skills develop much. Thats a whole lot of stress and mixed messages for a 12 year old to deal with for years on end. Thats just my guess tho.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Emma Watson has more charisma, depth, and intelligence in her Hermonie role than Millie Bobby Brown has in all of her films/TV shows. She's 10x more talented too.

by Short_Statement7220 3 months ago

I don't think she's an atrocious actor but to this day I still hate her in perks of being a wallflower because of her horrific accent in the movie. It's one of my favorite books ever, but by God it's this terrible blend of British and American. If she couldn't pull off the American accent they should've just let her be British in the film or cast somebody else, genuinely was hard to watch.

by bauchirma 3 months ago

I would imagine it's also kinda hard to grow as an actor when you start your acting career by playing one character for a decade or so. Doesn't really give you a lot of opportunity to expand your range while you're learning how to act on screen.

by Kind_Set_7474 3 months ago

I mean, that's pretty much why a lot of actors are typecast and tend to play the same roles or kind of character in different movies. Only rarely do actors manage to break out of this stuff.

by Intrepid-Pop 3 months ago

Good to know! I hadn't really made up my mind till this movie, when I can judge her adult acting skills.

by Away-Paramedic 3 months ago

Good take but some child actors can develop the skill given the right amount of effort and self reflection. Unfortunately as you can see in the cast interviews for "Stranger Things" MBB has quite the ego on her and thus won't likely make the effort to pull a "Christina Ricci/Jodie Foster" type transformation.

by Realistic-Ferret 3 months ago

TBF Jodie Foster started with a tad bit more serious role in a waaay more serious movie.

by bridie87 3 months ago

But one could argue that 60 year old Jodie Foster has upped her game over what 12 year old Jodie could pull off. 20 year old MBB is coasting at the same level at 11 year old MBB.

by Realistic-Ferret 3 months ago

Foster was awful as a horn dog straight woman detective in true detective. Extremely unconvincing.

by konopelskijoshu 3 months ago

I liked the Enola Holmes movies. But I haven't seen enough of her to have a real opinion. Also, enjoy her as Eleven.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

I felt even in those, she was still one dimensional, being carried by the story and her supporting cast.

by Away-Paramedic 3 months ago

yeah i felt that way about stranger things as well, idk why she's getting such a big blowup into the world of hollywood, she's bland, one dimensional, not a great actress, and honestly isn't even that interesting looking. i just don't get the appeal at all

by connhobart 3 months ago

I liked her in Godzilla vs. Kong too. But again, not a very complex character. Those films are quips and action lol

by wolfalvena 3 months ago

The movies couldve just cut her out and had more time for monster fighting

by Anonymous 3 months ago

To be fair, her parts probably made the film cheaper due to less cgi

by Samanta07 3 months ago

millie bobby brown is the bargain bin version of sophia lillis.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Where's she been at? I haven't seen much of her since the IT movies. I think she was in that Dungeons & Dragons movie that came out a few years ago, but I'm not sure.

by Zealousideal_Lack928 3 months ago

she was in im not okay with this, which obviously got binned by netflix after diverging from the comic book (case closes) ending. her insta hasnt been active since 2023

by Anonymous 3 months ago

I hope she's okay . I honestly just worry now when child actors just disappear off screen.

by Bhuel 3 months ago

shes been cast in another film called All Her Fault so i dont think shes done acting tbf. She was 21 in 2023 as well so thankfully had some agency.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Awh good to hear ! Need to check it out.

by Bhuel 3 months ago

That wasn't MBB it was Sophia Lillis who did an excellent job given what the movie was in the first place. MBB did some work on Netflix. Two seasons of a show (that I didn't watch) called "Enola Holmes". If you are a fan, give it a watch. As long as it is taking for "Stranger Things" to roll out the actors will be on Social Security.

by Realistic-Ferret 3 months ago

Kids rarely are. Unless they're sociopaths like Dakota Fanning. Pretty sure she's killed a few people.

by Powerful_Sort 3 months ago

Apparently for several of her parts as a young child she was eerily good. But she is an adult now, that requires going against people whose life is this craft. I think you have to keep working constantly to even touch all the a listers of Hollywood

by Anonymous 3 months ago

She's grown as hell nowadays, not a kid anymore

by Anonymous 3 months ago

I think they're referring to Dakota Fanning being good enough as a child actor to share the screen with someone like Denzel Washington back in the day and still be able to hold her own.

by Live-Reality 3 months ago

She was 5 in I am Sam.

by Langworthjakayl 3 months ago

Oh word

by Anonymous 3 months ago

I just need stranger things to finish

by Anonymous 3 months ago

As an actor I will always advocate that you're only as good as the script allows you to be…… MOST of the time.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

As an actor, I would kind of disagree. I've seen too many actors shine in very mediocre plays or movies. Michael Sheen is a prime example.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Yeah Secret Invasion was horrible but it was incredibly well acted, as another example.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

This is so wrong. As an actor it's your job to fix the bad writing.

by Rippinelisabeth 3 months ago

… since when

by Infamous-Fix-3221 3 months ago

THE MOON HAUNTS YOU

by LocksmithConfident99 3 months ago

This is the worst take on acting ive seen in a while.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

I wish more people understood this. I watch a lot of the mediocre stuff on netfilx and prime and in 90% of them the acting is completely fine. In few of them its actually better than a lot of the hollywood stars.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

I don't even care for her character in Stranger Things she is one of the weakest in my opinion, I think she is overrated.

by shaniyacrona 3 months ago

This isn't unpopular at all, it's a well-known fact.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Neither is Zendaya

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Absolutely!! it honestly took me out of the movie because of that.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Soooo... not a good actriz?

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Zendaya is a good actress, but for some reason keeps getting cast in roles she is not a good fit for. She was amazing in Euphoria.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

doesn't have to be tho. its a business, the name sells, profits, profits, profits

by Maleficent-Mango9164 3 months ago

I haven't seen her in much but I think she's good in Euphoria. Season 2 episode 5 I think her skills really shine

by AcrobaticBlueberry 3 months ago

It's pretty obvious when her breakout role is Eleven, who is emotionally stunted and awkward; meaning delivery is intentionally awkward and stunted. She has never once been considered a good actress. The cult following she has acquired is from Stranger Things fans and the weird Drake fans.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

I agreed but I think most agree. Also doesn't help she's made herself to look like a bland Barbie.. won't help getting better roles either.

by langworthtyrell 3 months ago

She's been riding that first season of stranger things for a long time now. She barely spoke, they barely showed her and here we are now.

by dockbrakus 3 months ago

She mugs like crazy.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Fell asleep halfway through Electric State. She as awful. But Chris Pratt was awful too.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Oh absolutely! They just hired her and said play 11 and hired Chris Pratt and said play star-lord.

by Away-Paramedic 3 months ago

And they hired Giancarlo Esposito and gave him nothing to do but speak in a monotone. That movie looked good, but failed in every other category. Hard.

by Certain_Reality 3 months ago

I really like Mr. Peanut though.

by AbbreviationsKey9013 3 months ago

I actually think she's really talented, she just picks mediocre Netflix movies to do. She's done amazing work in Stranger Things and has the talent to do really great stuff, but she doesn't branch out. I guess Netflix treats her well and the checks are good. Some of the movies are ok like Enola Holmes, but some are reaally mid like Damsel. I don't think I could stomach electric state lol, it just looks bad.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

What had she been in that she is good and she shows any depth (stranger things excluded)?

by Away-Paramedic 3 months ago

You don't even need to exclude Stranger Things. Her peak performance episodes were non-speaking

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Yeah that's fair I think if I really break it down she's probably the weakest cast member of stranger things, but we were all collectively brainwashed because of advertising. Darn it.

by Away-Paramedic 3 months ago

I liked Enola Holmes 🤷🏾‍♀️ But that's kind of my point she doesn't choose movies that give her much depth. Stranger things gave her the most to do. Also it's not totally fair to discount Stranger Things, she may have started as a 12 year old but she was in her late teens in the last season. She'll be in her early twenties in season 5. So she is an adult in that show, and her acting is still good.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

I actually think she's really talented, she just picks mediocre Netflix movies to do. She had the talent to do really great stuff but she doesn't branch out She feels like the type where once she finds her niche, as long the checks are good and her brand grows, she's not too concerned. But she's also the type to do mediocre Netflix movies like you said, come out of nowhere with a movie where she truly shows her talent as an actress, then go right back to what she knows and is comfortable with.

by Zealousideal_Lack928 3 months ago

She seems like she's more interested in having a starring role than an interesting role

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Is she the female Chris Hemsworth?

by janet24 3 months ago

Not sure if she picks them or maybe has a bad contract that forces her? Has she done smth outside Netflix?

by keltonabshire 3 months ago

She was in a Godzilla movie a while ago, that's all I can think of.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Can she choose other things? Maybe she has a contract with Netflix.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

What did she do in Stranger Things besides "be the quiet weird kid who wasn't properly socialized?" Her entire role was to basically stand there and be slightly awkward, not exactly a ground breaking role. She's a classic case of "right place right time," season 1 of ST was amazing and she was just along for the ride.

by Some_Current6872 3 months ago

Crime is bad!

by Fickle_Salt 3 months ago

She looks so so old

by Anonymous 3 months ago

I think it's probably because we've all seen her since she was really little. If I met her as a regular person and she said she was 21, I wouldn't not believe her. She looks older but everyone ages differently.

by Away-Paramedic 3 months ago

I've never seen her in my life and I never will. I'm busy. I don't watch kids TV

by Anonymous 3 months ago

The true unpopular opinion right here.

by Away-Paramedic 3 months ago

I think that was just a really bad movie.

by Oswaldo49 3 months ago

She scares me lol

by SensitiveEngineer822 3 months ago

I saw her in Enola Holmes. While not a great movie, she's very engaging and very charming in it. I haven't seen her in anything else yet

by Anonymous 3 months ago

She was awful in electric state. Also found it really awkward the overdone makeup and hair made her look 30 but she was suppose to be a kid.

by Historical_Year 3 months ago

If you see her publicity shots, she's always buried in makeup now. It's really gross.

by Certain_Reality 3 months ago

Close friend of mine worked on the last season of Stranger Things, said she was the only actor that nailed every one of her takes. But Winona Ryder was the opposite.

by Natural_Hospital 3 months ago

That doesn't really surprise me. Hard to screw up the script when there is no nuance.

by Away-Paramedic 3 months ago

I mean she's not even good in stranger things, she's just fortunate to be cast as eleven but all it really is, is a really inconsistent accent, weird phrases of broken English, extending her hand out in front of her and twitching it and screaming. She would not have been able to do any other role in that series up against the other child actors who were all pretty great

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Kid actors just don't grow up with the same lessons and harships that senior actors did. So if you are competent as a kid you will get gigs and then spend the rest of your career resting on your name.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

When it comes to kid actors I like to think they need some grace to find themselves. That said, in the last week I watched Enola Holmes for the first time and electric state. Enola worked because she was playing a kid. She played a kid in ES as well and nothing sounded authentic. In that case I blame production, it had a stellar cast and it was a "cute" pg13 movie. No one stood out or could have stood out. Let's see what she does moving forward. Dunst went from 12 years old (interview with a vampire) to 20 something playing a teenager (spiderman) to killing it in the TV season of Fargo. Natalie Portman went from in over her head (the professional) but meeting the challenge to a franchise background character in Star wars to a self aware acting powerhouse. Give MBB some time and space, oh and good scripts. It's too early to judge. Personally I see her hitting the notes that writers, directors, and producers have given her. She has also survived media scrutiny which can make others crack. Does she stand out as a natural next great, no.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Yeah, when I watched Damsel I was just like "This is just Eleven, but a Fantasy Princess".

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Again for everyone, unpopular in this context means "not a widely held" opinion, not simply a "negative" opinion.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

She is really cute in Enola Holmes.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

She was as a kid playing eleven. Doesn't seem to have grown as an actor with age

by Anonymous 3 months ago

What has she been good in?

by Away-Paramedic 3 months ago

I give former child actors a pass. Yea she sucks but so does her life

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Did you watch the trailer before the movie? What even gave you hope that you were gonna expect good acting FROM ANYONE 😭😭

by Anonymous 3 months ago

She is just in her element when like 50% of her script is just papaaaaaaaa

by Anonymous 3 months ago

She's actually pretty awful.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Millie Bobbie Brown's acting abilities, literally suck the farts out of dead chickens. Her acting abilities are so bad that they quite literally add massive entropy to the Universe. Pouring vinegar down your nostrils is better than watching MBB. Wanting to gouge your own eyes out after watching a MBB performance is totally normal. If anyone dares you to dry shave your nut sack or watching MBB , choose the shave.

by Sharp_Teaching 3 months ago

First 2 seasons of stranger things she was really good. After that it's been slightly downhill on everything she's done since. She needs to hone her skills a little bit more but because of the strangers things phenomena she most likely will get amazing roles the next 20 years with average acting skills. I'll be rooting for her to master the craft but her early success will make her think she doesn't need it.

by One-Bar 3 months ago

Couldn't agree more, she's not terrible in stranger things but she has no range at all

by Anonymous 3 months ago

You're not alone, and there are other stars who aren't great actors. They continue to work because they're famous and/or hot.

by Most_Cat 3 months ago

by Muted-Birthday-2896 3 months ago

Too be fair, electric State is a terrible film and they likely just shelled out the bag to get a big name attached and took the first take of everything

by Willmskeaton 3 months ago

She's cute, though.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Not a fan but she's had a glow up

by Anonymous 3 months ago

To about 40. She looks old and frozen.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

She never was.

by Square_Profession 3 months ago

I mean she's 21 and married

by Anonymous 3 months ago

I feel like the only people who are fans of hers, are those who practically grew up watching stranger things, and have obsessive parasocial relationships with her. I don't hate her, but I don't get the craze about her at all. Like ok cool she was on a show you liked, and moved on from it. Now it's your turn.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

She was good in damsel

by Gerlachautumn 3 months ago

Drake does not like this

by Anonymous 3 months ago

Don't worry, once the criticism gets old enough he'll move on.

by RepulsivePop4858 3 months ago

I met her once and imo she's not a good person either.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

I can't believe a child actress isn't well adjusted and doesn't always come across as nice. A person who hasn't had a personal life since before they were a teenager. I don't care for Millie Bobby brown but I feel like judging her entire character off of not liking her as an actor and one bad interaction is a bit unfair. Media loves to build up women in entertainment just to later bring them down. The hate is weird, because to me she seems not very relevant outside of stranger things and tabloid media calling her old looking. ATP I feel like the only Millie Bobby brown Stan's are fans of stranger things and the remaining fans are people who have Netflix.

by Dangelohills 3 months ago

I think she's much better now, but I kind of agree she was overrated as a kid actor.

by Anonymous 3 months ago

She was excellent in stranger things. She needs to pick better projects

by Anonymous 3 months ago

To be fair she wasn't exactly given much to act for in that movie

by langoshchloe 3 months ago
