I had someone offer me $15 for a Nintendo Ds. I laughed at the audacity
by Anonymous3 months ago
I mean isn't the DS almost 15 years old now? $15 could be about right…
by Anonymous3 months ago
it's still worth more than $15💀

I mean I find it kind of insulting if you try and haggle constantly if they don't mention that it's ok to make another offer. If they say it's ok then ok, but if not? Respect the listing. The app is already so rife with scammers and trolls who love wasting other people's time. It's actually more rare these days to find a legit person to interact with. Sucks for all the honest people out there but hey, that's the landscape.

Why do I need their permission to make an offer? The nature of the app is to make offers and see who will bite. Although I agree sorting out the good and the bad on the app is hard. But I think can respectfully lowball by keeping within 60% of asking.

I listed the price, you pay or the man who comes after you will. I can wait.
by Anonymous3 months ago
Agree, to that perspective too. But no need to respond to a price you don't like.
by Anonymous3 months ago
Okay that's definitely a very very unpopular opinion, a lot of lowball offers do seem a bit insulting especially if the condition is pretty decent or the base value of the item is a lot higher 😐

I agree, people act like bartering is just a middle ages thing, or something that pawn brokers do. But it's the basis of trade, goods, and commerce
by Anonymous3 months ago
I will say that i agree that the specific opinion of it being rude to make a lowball offer in general is definitely the majority opinion so i think OP is right on all accounts.

Grocery stores and FB Marketplace are different. I agree though. If a potato is $1 at the grocery store, then there is no haggling to be done.
by Anonymous3 months ago
Exactly, unregulated trade/sale has always had a bartering nature to it. That's why the buying and selling of public goods is so highly regulated. Thats why privately owned buisnesses like most pawn shops are capable of basically robbing you with their lowball offers
by Anonymous3 months ago
Yeah because you know haggling at the grocery store won't work. Farmer's market on the other hand, are more flexible on their price and you can negotiate.
