-20 For balding men, shaving isn't always the answer, amirite?

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I wouldn't say shaving their head is the first thing guys do when they're balding. Most guys I've seen just get a bunch of hats and wear them everywhere.

by Necessary_Style_2077 2 months ago

My hat collection is expanding at an alarming rate

by raven17 2 months ago

Not the point OP was making. They dont do it, but most people online advise them to. IRL people wont mention that too often.

by Kuhicmarcus 2 months ago

George Costanza another great example.

what a dream boat

by darrenbailey 2 months ago

I started balding, and the shaved head look is a good look for me. My brother started balding, and it definitely is not a good look with his head shape. I love the man, and never would say anything to him, but I think he realized it as well, because he did it once and never again

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Yeah it's the head shape that matters. The actor Michael Kelly looks good with a buzz cut and the receding hairline but not everyone can pull it off

by thompsonluz 2 months ago

The real motive i'm considering to start shaving is that with balding you can't really afford messy hair, even a breath of wind or a drop of sweat can make your hair look hideous, that didn't happened when i had hair. I'm just tired of constantly looking at the mirror and worrying about how the hair look, i think shaving it off and not caring about them anymore would make my life a lot easier, i just need the courage to do it for the first time

by Anonymous 2 months ago

No one gonna mention the CAPTAIN himself? Patrick Stewart?!?

by maudie39 2 months ago

YES! The very one character Capt. Jean-Luc Picard who didn't mind one bit his baldness and kept some hair to the side! Also The Doctor, Robert Picardo! All look good 👍 👌

by Timely-Button 2 months ago

Precisely! And we could really start that

by Timely-Button 2 months ago

He's very much balding. It's a type of balding called diffuse thinning. And yes, these men are mostly older, but they have had some form of recession throughout their careers. And Gandolfini was heavily balding in his early 30s when Sopranos started.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Walton Goggins! Dude rocks that receded hairline.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Does he, though? It looks pretty bad in White Lotus...

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Shaving is the first thing i would opt to if the balding starts Why cope when you can embrace

by Kilbackelsa 2 months ago

Seems a bit extreme to do it "As soon as it starts". How do you define "Starting" to go bald, is it when you notice that you have slightly more forehead at the temples?

by Anonymous 2 months ago

As Harry Hill said "I noticed it was taking longer and longer each morning to wash my face"

by Alarmed_Change 2 months ago

For me, it was when other people pointed it out. I had a glorious head of hair when I was younger. Right around the time I turned 28 or so, I started thinning at two different spots at the back of my head. A year or two after that, my hairline started to receed. If my hair loss had been symmetrical, then I would have just cut it short and called it good. As it was, it presented a mangy appearance. I started with having my wife use clippers to buzz it short, a la Jason Statham. Recently, I purchased a Dome Shaver from Manscaped and hit my dome with it about once a week.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Well it's not cope, it's a natural thing that happens to more than 50% of men. And you don't just go bald, it takes years if not decades of thinning for most people.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Bald guy here, with oversized, bad shape head. I shaved it couple of years ago. Never looked back. I always look my best, straight outta bed, in the pool, you name it. One less thing to worry about. Life is much simpler.

by ComfortableMain 2 months ago

In the Sixth Sense as well. And I think he looked very well put together in that one too.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

When I kept my hair I looked like Prince William, which I don't find attractive. Personally I've been much more comfortable since I've started shaving or keeping a tight buzz cut. I do think a bald scalp looks better with some facial hair, but I hate having facial hair. I'm comfortable with how I look and feel, and that's all that matters.

by Kwilliamson 2 months ago

especially in you're in your 30s and above. For men whose hair loss eventually gets worse, there are often already signs by the late teens to early 20s though.

by LongjumpingDot 2 months ago

Hair thinning/balding isn't unattractive imo. It's a part of aging the same way we get wrinkles. As long as they are clean and put together idc what they do with their hair or if they shave it.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

If it's thinning, I agree with you. If you've got the chrome dome with hair on the sides, it's time to let it go.

by BlacksmithSudden 2 months ago

Once you don't hold on for too long trying to have a haircut it's fine either way. One of my buddies just can't let go and it hurts me to see

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Vegeta dealt with hair recession his whole life, and still bagged bulma. Just saying✋😶🤚

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Having facial hair helps with a bald head.

by Ramiro48 2 months ago

I really don't care whether you shave or not, but if you are rocking the comb over I will silently judge your poor choices.

by Tremblaytracy 2 months ago

I don't worry about not having a full head of hair. I've had women ask for more of a lot of things but, I've never been asked for more hair.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

not really something you can ask for lol

by darrenbailey 2 months ago

I have been told by a fair few women that they find hairloss gross. Though I imagine bald/balding guys don't hear that

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Shaving really is the best for a few reasons. It feels good, looks neat and is low low maintenance. If you're balding it's actually quite hard to keep your style neat and tidy, shaving is just the best way to keep maintenance down.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

What's wrong with being bald and shaving your head? I don't get the incessant desire some people have to have hair. It's like when somebody uses baldness as an insult. How is it an insult? I genuinely don't get it. Does having hair put you in an exclusive upper echelon of society somehow? I don't get it.

by Migueljohnson 2 months ago

The bald look just doesn't work for everyone? It's that simple. Your hairstyle affects the way you look a lot, that's just the way it is.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

If it ever happens to me om going to make a scarf out of my comb-over.

by Tricky_Coyote8992 2 months ago

Jason Statham is another good example

by Double_Yam 2 months ago

The fact that this list doesn't include Sir Patrick Stewart pisses me off

by Rippinrusty 2 months ago

Not the best when you're looking to date.

by claudie00 2 months ago

I wish it would work for me, too bad my headshape is something else lol I only look human with hair, few of those that I manage to have still help a lot.

by AdventurousUnit 2 months ago

Randy Couture looked better before going fully bald as well.

by Square-Kiwi-5763 2 months ago

Maybe a circle jerk of jealousy :P of course a bald man wants to see more bald men even if they still look good with their hair. The loud majority is not always right

by NoProfession8408 2 months ago

Or, in these specific cases the answer is yes. I see OPs list of actors and I have to agree, they look just fine, maybe even better, not totally bald.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

You say the shaved head look works best when you have a lot of muscle. I would argue that the traditional bald look also works best when you have a lot of muscle like my man Caius Cosades

by Anonymous 2 months ago

ok Dr Phil

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Lol! To be fair, he's another example of someone that would lost his caricature if he went full bald.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Apparently Tim Pool & Jeremy the Quartering were told to wear hats 100% of the time & be stuck looking even weirder than Bradley Martyn.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Look is just one espect of it, convenience is another. You can literally forget about mirror, you just know you are fine.

by rosalee12 2 months ago

I so agree, I'd rather see a guy with some hair than being completely bald every time except in extreme cases like you mentioned

by NoProfession8408 2 months ago

Gandolfini was 38 years old when Sopranos started. He looked like he was 55. I really don't think he's a good example

by Desperate_Brief 2 months ago

He looked like he was 55 No he didn't. He looked fine for his age. And made his lack of hair work.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

The fat balding guy that died at age 51 looked fine for his age at 38. If you say so

by Desperate_Brief 2 months ago

Tbh I prefer the horse shoe to completely bald. Imo there are actually few people who truly look bad with a receding hairline.

by Calm_Winter 2 months ago

I believe hair transplants will be common place, if not already.

by Personal_Contact 2 months ago

They call them hair systems nowadays, and they can look really good.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Facial hair makes a big difference if you decide to shave your head. If I didn't have a beard I'd look like a weird big toddler.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I have a receding hairline. I just buzz it. I still have most of my hair

by Anonymous 2 months ago

you forgot our patron saint Jason Statham

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Jude Law

by Stock_Vehicle 2 months ago

I have a good British friend who went full shave. (And looks pretty good that way.) I don't think it's exclusive to one country.

by dinahagenes 2 months ago

I'm guessing the British would like a word about that...

by dinahagenes 2 months ago

No…. For one they have free healthcare and no one has a gun pointing at their dick. I'm not even from the UK and even I'm offended that you compare them to America lmao

by Anonymous 2 months ago

A lot of people only consider the aesthetics of having a shaved head and not the actual experience of living with a shaved head, and there are several negatives. If you commit to it, you'll have to do it every couple days for the rest of your life; if you've got sensitive skin, you'll likely deal with razor burn, which looks awful; you'll likely experience ingrown hairs, which look and feel awful; if you have oily skin or you sweat a lot, your head is going to be shiny all the time, which looks bad; if you spend time in the sun, you're either going to have to constantly wear a hat or apply sun screen or you'll deal with burning and sun spots; if you have and keep a beard, you have to figure out the perfect way to blend your beard into your shaved head, and the majority of men don't get it right and it looks bad; some people may look at you and think you're a skinhead. I've been told that I have the ideal head and face shape to rock a shaved head, and I have a thick beard, so I could probably pull off that look if I wanted to, but when I lost enough of my hair that it came time to make a decision, the only option that was really appealing to me was a hair transplant, and I'm very happy that I made that decision. I guess my unpopular opinion in this regard is that if you have the money, a hair transplant is always the better option for balding men than shaving your head is.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I think hair transplants are great for most men. But I think it's very difficult to get right. Especially when they try to go for a fully juvenile hairline and have that doll hair look at the front. The other thing to consider is that you will still need to take hormone-altering medicine and minoxidil (blood pressure medication) for the rest of your life. For most it's fine, but for others it can be really bad for their health.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

So not undergoing surgery and taking a cocktail of hormones means you don't care about your appearance?

by Alarmed_Change 2 months ago

I don't think there's anything wrong with an older man in his 60s or 70s to have a combover. They really don't look that bad on older men.
