-31 Soccer(football) Should Be Called Feetball, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Hitball would also be an acceptable rebranding option.

Everyone "hits" the ball with their feet in soccer though. That would go against your own rule of having the sport named after the things that touch/strike the ball, not the action itself.

I did offer kickball as an alternative, while kicking is a form of hitting, it is rarely ever referred to as such in soccer. You don't get a free hit after an infringement. Whereas baseball directly uses the term hit when the bat comes into contact with the ball.

Let me know where to sign the petition to get it changed

it's almost embarrassing at this point

I'd say we are well past "almost" at this point. Humanity has had ample time to correct this misnomer and we have yet to reach a satisfactory conclusion .

you still don't get it lol

Soccer (short for asSOCiation Football), is only called 'football' because the English named it soccer, but the Italians and Brazilians got better at it than them, and so renamed it "fĂștbol", and the rest is history.

by Safe-Yak1091 1 month ago

The word football was used in English before there were Brazilians

Football derives from the action of playing it on foot and not about the ball connection amount

Should American football be renamed to American HandEgg, as opposed to English HandEgg (rugby). Since you use your hands and the object in use is more egg shaped than spherical.

by Mysterious-Fish 1 month ago

Not necessarily, a ball, by definition, can be spherical or egg-shaped. I don't want to confuse your mother by telling her to suck my eggs.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

She wouldn't get confused. Eggs normally have at least some size and weight to them. I'd wager that those characteristics don't apply to yours.

Quail eggs are eggs all the same, and as delicious as any larger, heftier egg. They just happen to be 1/4 the size of your standard chicken egg. And that's okay.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

They do also have some size and weight, though they may be smaller then hen eggs. So in comparison, its still logically correct

Fine, sturgeon eggs it is, and while I may be lacking in quantity to be on par with the finest caviar, I can assure you the flavor is just as briny and scent equally as pungent.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Same applies as before. You're missing the point. I'm saying you lack the aforementioned eggs. After all, any physical object that exists has a size and a mass.

Unpopulair yes. With football the whole game is played using your foot. American football is mainly running while holding and throwing the ball by hands. I think there is only one game here with a strange name. Which is actually derived from the original football and rugby. Suggesting to change the name of a game played by the whole world except for America and making backwards reasoning up is maybe the most American thing I heard today.
