+30 Women with PCOS always say that PCOS caused their weight gain, but fail to admit that they're eating in a calorie surplus, instead insisting that insulin resistance is the real villain. amirite?

This is like saying people with OCD make the conscious decision to keep flipping on and off that light switch, so they're blaming a disease instead of taking responsibility.

this isn't an unpopular opinion, it's just factually incorrect. this reeks of "i hate fat people and it's always their fault."

Do you know and understand what hormones are?

This theory is wrong hence why people who don't have medical knowledge shouldn't be giving harmful advice. While CICO (Calories In, Calories Out) is the foundation of weight management, PCOS affects how the body processes and stores energy, making weight loss more difficult even in a calorie deficit. Most women with PCOS have insulin resistance, which means their cells don't respond properly to insulin, leading to higher insulin levels. This promotes fat storage, increased hunger, and carb cravings. Even when eating the same number of calories, those with insulin resistance tend to store more fat than those without so as you see they already have an abnormality, it's like me saying someone with a large wingspan and tall in height and a high muscle mass doesn't have an advantage when it comes to playing basketball to a regular sized person without those factors.if you don't see how crazy you sound by now that means you are far gone. Anyways I'll give more info on PCOS so that you can maybe be more educated. PCOS is characterized by elevated androgens (male hormones) which can increase fat accumulation, particularly in the abdominal area, and disrupt appetite regulation which a woman without Pcos wouldn't experience. women with PCOS have a lower metabolic rate than those without, meaning they burn fewer calories at rest. This means they might need to eat even less than a typical person to lose weight. The "Secret Eater" Argument is Misleading yes some probably do secret eat but so many women without PCOS do this doesn't mean that is the reason why they are overweight. Many women with PCOS actively try to lose weight but find it disproportionately difficult due to metabolic resistance. the misconception weight loss is will power is dumb because of insulin resistance, traditional weight loss methods (e.g., low-fat diets, high-carb meals) may be ineffective for women with PCOS. Weightloss with PCOS requires different approaches to women without so having PCOS is a disadvantage.

why does no one understand that 2 people can eat the exact same thing but look drastically different due to their circumstances?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Alright, we can't fight science. But we also can't fight the fact that every person has different circumstances and some simply cannot help it. My girlfriend is one of them. Assuming that "most women" are just unaware is blatantly untrue. And sometimes, its the medical professionals faults as well.

This is scientifically wrong, never mind unpopular

wrong.

You're actually factually wrong. The cause of PCOS is insulin resistance. If you have insulin resistance, you have an imbalance between your insulin and your glucose. If you have elevated insulin, your body is triggered to store energy for later. Calories in calories out is not a 100% the answer packaging alone can be 25% different cuts of the same piece of meat can be quite different, in the quality of the protein to fat ratio which can make the calories quite different. Protein also has a higher thermic effect, that helps you burn more calories while processing it.
