The person meant unemployed as in jobless, unwilling unemployment. Financial and personal ruin for many people who live paycheck to paycheck, I think. It is a very real nightmare.

Oh yeah, I didn't think of it that way. That would be so painful. Obviously I have not reached that point but I really do resonate with people living in that kind of circumstance because I've experienced many times of debilitating mental health crises myself (enough to leave me bedridden) and it's scarily easy to end up in that type of situation.

One of my favorite things about my friend group is that we've all been friends for decades, and we still barely know what each other does for a living. We almost never talk to each other about work. It almost never comes up at all.

Oh I would love that. Not having the same constant conversations about work must be so good. I'm hoping in the case of my friend group that it's just a novel thing for most of them which makes them want to talk about it more.

Oh yes I've had similar experiences with people talking about their achievements at uni… It really is insufferable. It's ok to be proud of your achievements, but bringing it up all the time to ramble about is too much.

Most people spend more than half of their time awake at work, not sure they have much to talk about in way of experiences with a life like that.

You're right, and I will leave out people who have to work multiple jobs to survive and barely have time to do anything else - but surely we all have something else to talk about right? Whether it's about current affairs or even just a consumption hobby (YouTube, social media etc).

The problem is it becomes work, politics you disagree with, or hobbies you don't share.

Nah that's very normal stuff. I just feel like a lot of my friends stretch those kind of conversations to the point where I zone out, or bring up their job repeatedly without fail to unrelated conversations every day.

I don't get annoyed with people for talking about work because it's what consumes most of their day and life. Some people have pretty good work stories. Yeah, maybe they should learn how to forget it and have fun. But I dont fault them for it.

It's because it's everyone's whole live , the only things they have to talk about is partners and work . Maybe they might of went on a trip at some point bit mainly you either don't wanna hear it since you feel kinda jealous (cause ur human ) so that conversation last a couple mins
