You can be happy with the present and still wish you were able to go back to the old days. Things felt so much simpler, easier, and you didn't have to worry about adult responsibilities. It can be comforting. It is for me anyway. I had a rough childhood, but I do wish I could go back to the happier moments where I could just be a kid. Your experience with nostalgia is valid. Not everyone feels the same about it, and how much it influences the present varies. As much as I love elements of my childhood, I'm glad that I'm able to have a better, happier life now even if things are hard. I find inspiration from my childhood and its comforting during the really, really hard times for me. I still incorporate elements of my childhood now because... well, I'm an adult, and I can get the things I wanted back then now. I'm a toy collector. It's a passion of mine, and I won't lie, I still really love the aesthetics from the early to mid 2000s aimed towards girls. Seeing stuff from that time brings me a bit of happiness if that makes any sense. I think some people engage with it more than others, as long as it's not to an unhealthy level, I see no harm in it.

Just because you love your life more now than you did before doesn't mean everyone else does. In fact I'd say the majority of people would love to go back and do things differently.
