+33 Having a hobby you suck at but still enjoy is more admirable than being great at something and monetizing it. amirite?

Years ago, I made the conscious decision to not monetize my hobbies, even if I was halfway decent at them. This has allowed me to spend that time relaxing and enjoying the process without thinking of how I can streamline it and make it a profitable business.

I'm a terrible gardener. Been doing it for 30 years now and I still feed the weeds and pull out the wrong plants. But nothing beats eating a fresh ripe apricot straight from the tree. Money cannot buy them.

I would like to know what you hobbies are? I have tried to get into so many but I can't consistently get into anything other than the once a year urge to read a lot of books.

Nah. There is nothing admirable about being terrible at something you've been doing for a long time. If you actually enjoy it, you will eventually get better at it. I'm not saying that you should always practice or strive for perfection, but the sole fact that you've been doing something consistently for a long time should be enough to make you good. If you tell me you've been playing the guitar for 20 years, I expect you to be able to do more than just strumming a few cowboy chords.

If you actually enjoy it, you will eventually get better at it. I sing every single day and my singing is still garbage. I've been playing FPS games since DOOM and I'm still terrible at them. Sometimes the talent just isn't there.

I disageee with this. Some people play blues on the piano because they enjoy it, some strive to play Liszt or Chopin. Neither is the "correct" way to enjoy playing the piano

Sure this is an unpopular opinion , but it's also a dumb one. Ask every single person that is in love with a hobby if they would like to make a living from it. People pay money to participate in most hobbies. How many would pay to do their 9-5?
