Happy stories are the most depressing, amirite?

Interesting take

Me too. I read for escape. I don't want validation that my life isn't the only one with crap in it. It's OK if the main characters have a dark backstory, but I want them to get the good things, the bad nasty folks to get some comeuppance and to close the book with a smile and sigh and a mental if only before I shake myself and return to reality.

Got what you mean. Somehow they feel artificial, and unrealistic. Personally, I love bittersweet endings.

I think that's actually a good idea. Not all endings need to be "happy ever after" and not all of them have to be depressing/tragic. There are other degrees between the two and mixed emotions, some positive and some negative. That feels more "real" without being overwhelmingly depressing.

Whatever floats your boat. Personally, I think it depends on the story that's told.

I can't imagine you only enjoying unhappy endings though. Did you write this out of spite? Or purely to try and be an unpopular opinion?

Sounds like you're very depressed. Source: am very depressed and see where you're coming from

It's hard to be depressed when taking on the perspective of someone happy. Sounds like a you issue. Be happy for someone not just envious. I don't sit around bummed out that other people have nice lives. Talk about a toxic mindset.
