Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so... amirite?

It's always good to help people, but either way it's hard to assess the situation given how broadly you describe it. I don't know what your relationship ship is with these people or what you mean by "recruited".

Curious to know if my thinking is wrong? Jesus would say so.

First off, nobody in Gen X should be helping people move. Thats when you're like 21/22. It's not worth our time; we hire movers and maybe chip in to help our friends buy a mover as a gift. Movers cost less than the time per hour your group of friends are using to help you move.

You could also say no, specifically because they wouldn't help you. Expecting relationships to be reciprocal is about as mainstream as you can get.
