+24 "The Office" peaked with Michael Scott's departure, and here's why you're all wrong. amirite?

Unpopular opinion, that's for sure

by botsfordsantos 1 month ago

I think the problem is people didn't watch the office for what it became. They watched for the cringe absurd situations. I'd agree I actually like the later seasons but it definitely feels like a different show

Yeah thanks for pointing this out. It's can't be an unpopular opinion when the dude is being factually incorrect

A lot of the stuff you listed happened while Michael was still there.

I don't know if it peaked, but I think there are plenty of episodes that are better or just as good as with Michael Scott. I will say I just hate what they did with Andy's character after he left on the boat. Feels like a completely different character to me.

Absolutely! There's a ton of great stuff throughout the series. Any particular episodes you have in mind?

by NecessaryEarly1737 1 month ago

The character of Michael Scott and his interactions with the office and his shenanigans are literally the show. I still enjoyed it after him, but it was objectively worse and honestly kind of a different show

Better show?

by NecessaryEarly1737 1 month ago

I've tried more than once to watch The Office, but it just doesn't hit with me. I recently watched about five shows in a row during an marathon, and Michael Scott shtick was so stupid it was annoying. I think I might like it better without him.

Man I loved the Robert California arc. I don't know why it gets so much hate. Getting a goofball similar to Michael would never work. It was evident when they tried with Will Ferrell for a bit but it fell flat vs when Robert took over. His on screen presence and timing was amazing.

This

The reveal though of DeAngelo Jeremitrius Vickers being a white guy, specifically Will Ferrell, still cracks me up.

Unpopular (because I'm trying too hard) opinion

I'm worried you don't understand what "peaked" means.

I didn't watch the show, but your title doesn't match what you wrote. If it peaked when he left, that would mean his departure was the high point and it declined after that. That's literally what a peak is. Yet you wrote about how it became better. So, your title should be that it peaked AFTER he left, not with his departure. Yes, it's nitpicky. I'm watching a game that my team is losing and bored. 🤷‍♀️

This truly is an unpopular opinion. Congratulations.

Season 8 was spectacular. Season 9 was meh

by No_Scientist_2538 1 month ago

Season 8 definitely had some great moments! What were your highlights? And yeah, Season 9 was a bit of a mixed bag for many

by NecessaryEarly1737 1 month ago

Nah it did

by Anonymous 1 month ago

we got actual plot lines I'm not even convinced you watched the show

by CoffeeNo5002 1 month ago

I feel like you make some solid points but there is one glaring oversight that completely invalidates everything you said: Nellie is the worst character of any show, ever. Just the fact that she shows up after Michael makes the Michael episodes better by default.

by Present_Case 1 month ago

The office became better after he left is not just an unpopular opinion. This is a sign of cognitive impairment

by Bubbly-Extent3585 1 month ago

Honestly the problem was just itself. It was unique for a few seasons and then needed to outperform itself. There were great episodes before and after Michael left. I think its peak was the season 4 finale.

by No_Letter6764 1 month ago

That show is garbage without him

by Round_Letterhead 1 month ago

Points are valid, but none of your reasons except maybe the James Spader one have to do with the comedy of the show. The show simply became less funny without the comedic engine of Michael Scott, and the laughs are why so many people loved the show.

Truly horrible take, should potentially reevaluate how you process and think about the world. Completely idiotic. Well done

The Office peaked with the UK version and the US is a shoddy cash grab… according to its own creators
