This isn't unpopular. He was literally going to be fired, but was saved by the protagonist of the movie. That's like saying "this character was going to die if the hero didn't save them." Yeah we know, that is the whole plot of the movie.

Dude said the garbage boy in ratatouille when he's literally the deuteragonist of the film more known as Linguini. Also he didn't get fired because remy fixed it and made it better and they assumed it was him. If remy hadn't fixed the soup, he would have been fired.
