Get better with your words and you can publicly humiliate assholes. You don't always need to hit someone to destroy their ego. That being said, if you do a good job, they might pick a real fight with you anyways, and at that point you're defending yourself so go nuts.

The best way to piss off someone who's trying to provoke you is to ignore them. They want to MAKE you punch them because it gives them a thrill to control you that way. When you ignore them, it robs them of their power. If you totally ignore them like they're not even an ant on the pavement, it's a great put-down, as it says they're a nothing. At first they may try harder, but eventually, they give up and go try to get someone else in trouble. Don't give them the power to manipulate you that way.
