+48 People don't hate vegan or vegetarian food. amirite?

by Additional-Sign3699 1 month ago

yeah i agree. cause if you think about it, french fries are vegan

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I agree 100%. I'm not vegan myself but a lot of vegan dishes i've tried are so good when they don't try to mimic meat and it's just its own thing

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Yeah but why not look at fake meat the same way? I love Taco Bell but let's be real - its relationship to actual Mexican food is tenuous at best. Taco Bell is practically it's own genre. So is faux meat - it's not meat but is good on its own merits..

by rosenbaumgeorgi 1 month ago

I don't know - I love real meat and fake meat, they're just different and good in their own way. I eat vegan frequently and love it as a different cuisine, same as any other type of food I've tried. I don't expect vegan tuna to taste of have the same consistency as actual tuna. People's expectations are the problem I think.

by rosenbaumgeorgi 1 month ago

Except when they were fried in beef tallow.

by KlutzyNewspaper1420 1 month ago

Depends on where in the world you are and the type of establishment you're eating at. If you're in Belgium or eating Belgian frites, it's probably beef fat. And even in my north American city, I've seen beef and duck fat on the menu at hip restaurants pretty consistently.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

i felt like someone would say this but oh well lol. you know what i mean

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Not really. My grandma makes french fries at home with sunflower oil and they're delicious

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I'm just saying that they were historically fried in beef tallow. Ofcourse food doesn't have to have animal-based ingredients to be delicious.

by KlutzyNewspaper1420 1 month ago

I wasn't aware we were talking strictly about the original kind! I see thank you fro explaining

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Lots of things changed in our diets in the last 5ish decades. Lots of bad things got pushed as not so bad just to make a buck. Beef products aren't one of them.

by Charming-Year 1 month ago

.... I'ma need a moment.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

like..you agree kinda moment or disagree?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Not only that I agree, it's a sudden realization of the truth that hits me in such a way that I have to put it in perspective.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

OH wow haha, glad I could change your perspective to that extent lol

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I guess it's just that french fries can often be considered junk food, and vegan food typically has some health connotation to it. I just realized junk food can be considered vegan.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

yeahh I know what you mean. the word vegan itself just makes me think of a bunch of greens and legumes lol

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Another perspective is no matter how vegan potatoes and vegetable oil may be, if that place fries anything else in that oil (chicken, shrimp, whatever) then obviously those fries aren't vegan anymore. It's of course up to the individual to decide where their personal line is, but that's precisely why restaurants don't mention on the menu that their fries are vegan, because they would if they could.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Can be. But honestly, they really aren't as good fried in vegetable oil. Those old school mcd fries were amazing

by Existing_Ship 1 month ago

true…have you ever had five guys fries though? i think they're fried in peanut oil and they're the best fries i ever had

by Anonymous 1 month ago

The UK shop they learned to make them from used to use animal fat and omg. They have since switched to Vegi. Still amazing. To give you an idea they only sell chips and have been in business for decades

by Existing_Ship 1 month ago

Sometimes, some places may use animal based fats when frying them

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I used to work at a vegan restaurant. EVERY SINGLE SHIFT a customer would ask- "What are your French fries made of?" And "But how do you make them vegan?"

by Anonymous 1 month ago

lmaoo 😭 i didn't realize how many people never heard of vegan fries till today ? i didn't think the majority used beef tallow or some other animal fat

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I'm Asian. We eat lots of vegetarian food without so much as a glance. Why? Because Asians of various cultures and cuisines know how to treat the veg for what it is. Being creative with cooking methods, flavours and seasonings. I'm definitely a meat eater, we eat everything but the booty hole. Though this may be in the form of sausages, meatballs and the like. I'm of the idea that if you kill an animal to eat it, at least eat as much as possible. But I can actually go days not eating meat and without realising because the vegetarian meals I've cooked are that tasty Oh and we know how to use meat alternatives like tempeh, tofu, seitan, etc well. These "alternatives" are not viewed as such. They are the star of the show in the first instance. Now, once you start pretending it's meat, cheese, whatever - that's where the disappointment arises

by Anonymous 1 month ago

For me it's when someone hands me obviously vegetarian or vegan food but acts like it's not. Watches me eats then "reveals" it's vegetarian or vegan, and because I couldn't tell I don't need to eat meat. No fool, I could tell I'm just not so rude as to turn down food, and no it's still not better than meat

by Muted-Mulberry9571 1 month ago

Has this actually happened? If yes, Who did this? First off, I'd be able to tell right away it wasn't meat. Secondly, why?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Right? My wife is vegetarian, and I can't comprehend ever pulling this move on her with meat, or her pulling it on me with fabricated meat products. I respect her diet choices as she does with me.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

What an odd thing to do.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Yeah, that's annoying as hell.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Agree. Also, 1kg of an unprocessed veg might contain more iron than 1kg of unprocessed meat; but the amount of nutrient/mineral present in the dish does not equate to nutrient/mineral your body is able to absorb. There are very few forced herbavores (the fact that you think horses are only grazing does not eliminate the fact that they also eat mice, lemmings, hares, chickens and more and digest them) but many forced carnivores (veggies are harder to effectively digest). Cats will die on an all veg diet. Pigs will survive on an all meat diet.

by Additional-Sign3699 1 month ago

Wait, WHAT??? @ horses eating mice, chickens, etc

by Guilty_Bit 1 month ago

So the real conclusion here is "people" don't hate vegetarian food they hate vegetarianism.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I have no issue with the concept of fake meat, although I do find it weird that a vegan would want something that mimics a burger, I have no intention to eat a fake burger myself. But u would most certainly turn down food if someone tried to force beyond meat on me

by LemonUnlucky 1 month ago

It would be so much easier if they just asked if we mind to eat a vegetarian/vegan dish.. Most not-stupid people would say yes and/or discuss what "we" could eat. The vegetarian/vegan would be able to just filter out stupid people who won't tolerate vegetarians/vegans.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

No, they shouldn't need to ask your permission to serve a non meat meal.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I have always eaten vegan and vegetarian food. However, the one time I went to a vegan restaurant it was the worst meal I've ever eaten. This was down to them covering all the lovely salad, veggies, etc in the worst dressing I've ever tasted so much so that everything tasted of dressing. It would have been so much nicer without any dressing. I have no idea why they did it.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Why would anyone who served you food ask if you mind not having meat? Lots of food doesn't have meat like soups and pizza's and cheesy pastas.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I have seen people say that items are flavourless if they don't have meat in it and they hate dishes without meat lol. Vegan/Vegetarian food is amazing provided that you actually have a chef/cook that knows how to cook it.

by Jo02 1 month ago

100% agree. 99% of the time it's a skill issue.

by Additional-Sign3699 1 month ago

So people don't hate veggies.....super hot take

by michale95 1 month ago

I don't know, my nephew makes a strong case for how much they suck.

by Marksmaximillia 1 month ago

That's the thing, plenty of people do have a "meat good veggies bad" mentality.

by Ok_Chapter 1 month ago

I mean, most people just buy frozen bagged vegetables and steam them so they're soggy and have no flavor, no wonder people hate them so much.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

This is what my mom used to do. Gross. If they are cooked right I will happily eat a whole place of veggies. A friend of my mom makes brussel sprouts but she cooks them with balsamic vinegar. They were amazing.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Very cultural dependent take here

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Agreed. That's why if I end up at a veg restaurant with friends, I get the black bean burger. It's not pretending it's cow, it's embracing that it's beans. Beans are tasty too lol

by Dense-Musician 1 month ago

I mean people complain about vegetables too tbh

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Yeah, but a lot of the time that is not on the veg, but the skill of the cook. Broccoli boiled in water 'till soggy will always lose to al dente broccoli fried in umami.

by Additional-Sign3699 1 month ago

People complain about calling a cauliflower steak that name. Or veggie only menus. People are miserable. It's not about the food as much

by Anonymous 1 month ago

People don't hate those dishes. Vegetarian/Vegan can be delicious. People can't stand the people who act like massive pricks about it.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

WhAt, YoU'rE nOt VeGaN? hOw DaRe YoU SnAcK oN rOoT vEg?!?!? I've met quite a few. And yes, fascists are everywhere.

by Additional-Sign3699 1 month ago

What vegan was out there discouraging you from eating vegan food? Like what was the issue? Was it the only vegan option at an event or something

by Monarunte 1 month ago

Tbh it's the people who try to force their food preferences down everyone else's throats that annoy me, not the food itself. My town has had a big vegan festival for the past few years. Attracts thousands of people from all over the place. I'm not vegan but I've been, it's good. But every year there's several dickheads who decide to vandalise the town by graffiting stuff like "go vegan" everywhere. These are the people I hate, not the food itself.

by Agitated_Campaign_57 1 month ago

I agree with this statement. I'm all for heavy enforcement on regulations around animal welfare. If it becomes food in death, it shall be treated as a life-giving god in life. But many domesticated animals would not survive in the wild. If pandas were delicious, we'd have farms of them.

by Additional-Sign3699 1 month ago

Well that's because to vegans "food preferences" for you include death and suffering to innocent sentient beings. It's not forcing food preferences since there's no way to "force" you clearly, you're not vegan. The only force is the force of death upon innocent animals for your meals.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Ahah, I've had that. Bang Bang Cauliflower was a side dish that people loved and once they ask why I'm eating it.. I said "It's vegetarian/vegan..?" they ended up going funny about the dish. Like.. why exactly does it matter?

by Jo02 1 month ago

I love bang bang cauliflower. So good. Yeah I don't get it. I know that some veggie ppl can seem high and mighty (I've only encountered 1 in my life) but I think a lot of meat eaters can be kind of mean about if for some reason. Like they take pleasure in it. I've encountered way more ppl like that. It's very odd when you think about it.

by Murky_Upstairs7817 1 month ago

Impossible beef is delicious but beyond beef is vile. My boyfriend is vegetarian but I am not so I had a really difficult time figuring out what to cook for us for a while, because I love meals with meat. I really think the existence of food that emulates meat is important for reasons like that, if impossible beef was cheaper and if it keeps getting better, I think more people would start choosing to buy that instead of beef.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I can make my own dishes that are technically vegan or vegetarian and they're fine but anytime I get anything from a restaurant it's terrible

by Anonymous 1 month ago

People eat meat free meals all the time and don't realize it. I also hate what I call the gaslight meat because if I'm eating a meatless meal I want it to be honest with me. However, I will dig in my heels like an old donkey if some preachy vegan tells me I'm evil for eating chicken like a completely normal omnivorous animal.

by Loud-Trouble 1 month ago

Because vegetables aren't vegan food, they're just food. That's like describing meat as carnivore food. No, it's just food.

by lemkedean 1 month ago

It's actually vegan and vegetarian people that we don't like.

by Tall_Cardiologist841 1 month ago

I don't like you either D: What did I do D:

by Jo02 1 month ago

Your username makes this extra hilarious 😂

by BeyondComfortable 1 month ago

This made me laugh a bit Although to be honest, I don't care what someone eats, as long as it's not their entire personality.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I don't actually care either. But I have encountered some annoying ones over the years.

by Tall_Cardiologist841 1 month ago

IME vegan food doesn't taste bad at all, it just doesn't make me full. I end up with stomach pain trying to make myself full from vegan food and then I just have to wait until I have room for meat or fish

by Floriantrantow 1 month ago

Vegan food without some sort of intense seasoning or even a meat-ish flavouring is generally bad tasting IN my opinion.

by Electronic-Exam-4664 1 month ago

Meat is also bad tasting without seasoning and flavor. Why do you think dry rubs, marinades, and sauces are so popular in meat based dishes? Few people enjoy eating plain unseasoned meat

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Yes! Garlic is a vegetable, so is pepper. Salt is a mineral. That is "the holy Trinity" of seasoning beef. "Pure carnivores" make me laugh with sadness at their stupidity.

by Additional-Sign3699 1 month ago

No, they just experience cognitive dissonance

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Oreos are vegan lol

by AdCharacter4765 1 month ago

I don't even hate vegan or vegetarian food that tries to emulate meat either. I just try to go into it with the understanding that it is not and will never be meat and I try to be objective about what it actually IS. I judge it by how much I enjoy the food on its merits, not by how close it gets to being a "real" burger, hotdog, whatever it's designed to resemble.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Dunno I like food in all shapes and sizes tbh.

by Left_Mission8213 1 month ago

Or they hate vegan vegetarian food from people that can't cook. Gotta do more than boil/steam some greens.

by schoenchris 1 month ago

Most vegetarian food made that way so it's not trying to emulate meat food has been delicious. I try to mix in some vegetarian dishes simply because they are power calorie and high in fiber.

by kayrowe 1 month ago

You lost me at brocoli soup

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I'm not a vegetarian but it really does depend on the dish and the preparation. I mean there's some really delicious vegetarian Indian dishes, for example.

by Southern_Dinner2576 1 month ago

This is truth. Indian vegetarian food is delicious.

by mikemcglynn 1 month ago

Agreed There are so many nice, by default vegan/vegetarian dishes everyone loves. Noodle dishes for example

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I agree. I had to quit eating meat for health reasons and while vegetarian/vegan food is absolutely delicious, the foods that are trying to pretend to be meat are pretty awful.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Ratatouille has always been vegan. Nothing in it is trying to emulate meat. Have you seen those beyond meat sausages🤣

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I sorta agree w this, but I had an impossible sausage egg and cheese (only sausage was vegan) bagel this morning and it was rly good.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Absolutely agree. We have a really awesome vegan restaurant near me. Except all of their dishes that have fake meat in them are weird as hell. Like, not only does the fake meat not taste like whatever meat it's supposed to taste like as is common with fake meat dishes. But the chef has clearly never had the dishes that they are supposed to be recreating. They aren't necessarily bad, but they are so rediculously different that if they weren't named after those dishes, there would be no indication whatsoever that that's what those dishes were even going for.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I'll tell you what though, the vegan Chicago Town BBQ Jackfruit frozen pizzas are killer good stuff. They're kind of tart, but in a delicious BBQ way and they come with crusts stuffed with tomato sauce. Truly a thing of beauty.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I dislike most vegan and vegetarian food, because to me they don't taste good.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I tried vegan meat once in a restaurant. Vegan tacos. The texture was what ruined it for me. Tasted fine, but I couldn't get past the texture.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

They don't know Oreos are vegan

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Tonto con carne

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Mac & cheese are vegetarian.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I think you're just pouting out the unsaid that most people agree with.

by Jacobishayna 1 month ago

Yup. I'll happily eat a meal that contains no meat or dairy. But you give me a fake burger and I can't eat it But also, there are people who won't eat a meal without meat or dairy so….

by OutsideNo 1 month ago

i'm vegetarian and i also hate the meat imitations a frozen patty is a very convenient form of food, but i want to see the colorful veggie bits in it. before the Impossible burger, BK had a really great veggie burger that was a collab with Morningstar, it was amazing. they took it away when they introduced the Impossible the companies are trying to "win over" people, but it's really not working. just make food for the ones that exist, we like vegetables

by karinacruicksha 1 month ago

a plate with falafel, hummus, baba ghanoush, muhammara, pickles. I love meat but if you added meat to that you'd be crazy. maybe some yogurt based sauce to make it vegetarian instead of vegan but that's as far as I'd go

by garrick29 1 month ago

Not only meat, but things like vegan mayo has chemical emulsifiers.

by Several_Use 1 month ago

Mostly agree, but I love a good burger, holdover from my carnivore days. So I stan the Impossible Burger patties.

by tracepfeffer 1 month ago

Most of your flavor and texture cones from veggies, meat is just protein, my only issue with vegetarian food is that you generally have to be a lot more organized and can easily be a lot more expensive

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Everything on this list is gross. Everything.

by shanahangeorgia 1 month ago

This 100% Moroccan stew is vegan and I love it to bits! Vegan "beef" patties are absolute garbage as are all brands of vegan cookies I've tasted (taste like literal grass).

by Darien00 1 month ago

I dislike many vegetables and hate ratatouille, so I'm going to disagree.

by Opposite-Echidna1464 1 month ago

I feel like people who say they hate vegan food mainly just hate the vegan label. Like they have some weird aversion to things specifically labeled as vegan. At least from what I've noticed.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

As someone who ate nothing but meat, bread, and cheese for 8 years this is true. Vegetarian food is awesome now

by Anonymous 1 month ago

People with a varied diet have been eating vegan and vegetarian meals for yonks...it was just called food. 80 percent of what my Turkish grandmother cooked was vegetarian (and often incidentally vegan). When I eat vegan food out, it's often too sweet or focuses too heavily on recreating traditional meat dishes.

by TomatoSpirited 1 month ago

Hotel? Trivago

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I do make a really good vegetarian potato and leek soup. I have to add creame that is a dairy product so not vegan family. It is very basic, but just hits right. Best served the day after it is made. And I enjoy a good meaty dish so can add honey roasted bacon to my soup....so yeah...No need to only eat veggie or vegan, more varied as we need that in our diet.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

There are at least 3 dishes that I cook in my day to day life that I could very simply make into a vegan/vegetarian dish by removing the meat a dairy products. I probably have more, but burritos, stuffed peppers and stir fry are what come to mind, good with meat and cheese, good without meat and cheese

by Puzzleheaded_Egg6782 1 month ago

I just had impossible meat for the first time a few days ago. Pretty good.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Plenty of people also think things like veggie burgers are disgusting based off of assumptions.

by Rebekabailey 1 month ago

No, I hate vegetables.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Yes and no. As someone who worked in a restaurant, I can tell you that lots of people genuinely aren't interested or "satisfied" by a meal that doesn't have meat or dairy somewhere. They can admit that it tastes good but they'll always view it as a side dish and not a meal.

by iboyer 1 month ago

A majority of people passively eat an ovo/lacto vegetarian diet. Meats expensive lately, and usually only one of my meals has chicken or beef involved lately. Oat milk and soy require less water than almonds so people buying that instead of dairy milk is pretty common too if you are watching where you're food is from.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Often not, one time some relatives didn't want to eat a pie my mom made because it was vegan. Not trying to imitate anything, literally just a pie. Without milk. I've seen many so afraid of the label "vegan"

by Tight_Possession 1 month ago

I find that a significantly higher percentage of vegan food is tasteless compared to non-vegan food. So, it's more of a generalisation based on experience. I've had very tasty vegan dishes too.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Agree completely. I don't understand the point of fake meats. There's lots of great vegan food, and it's much better when it's not trying to be meat.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Yes, if you are not into meat don't try to make dishes "taste just like meat". I am not a vegetarian but when I eat vegetarian dishes, I live the taste of the vegetables, I'm not looking for chemicals but for honest vegetable taste.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I love me some veggie burgers and I ain't even vegetarian or vegan

by Noemie95 1 month ago

I don't mind it just don't try to recreate something.

by joshua90 1 month ago

All of those are things I find gross and wouldn't be able to eat much of without throwing up

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Most of the things you mentioned when a non vegan eat it is full of things like butter or meat based stocks. Vegan food last any depth to it.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Ratatouille has no animal products in it at all, and it tastes amazing. Filafel also has no animal products and is amazing.

by No_Aardvark6382 1 month ago

I love falafels, amazing food.

by Jo02 1 month ago

Thats opinion though Ratatouille does nothing for me. Falafel is great, but your naming a few things for a complete life style change. I've never had Falafel and said, thats it I'm never eating a Smoked Brisket again!

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Neither have I. But I've also never eaten brisket and said "I'm never having Ratatouille, cucumber salad, or tomato soup again."

by No_Aardvark6382 1 month ago

They use Umami flavoured food such as Tomatoes, Mushrooms and edible Seaweed to imitate meat.

by KlutzyNewspaper1420 1 month ago

Vegetable stock is not equal to beef or chicken stock.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I don't hate vegan or vegetarian food. What I do hate are smug holier-than-thou vegans and vegetarians who chastise you for eating meat.

by Beneficial_Buy 1 month ago

Those individuals are far rarer than the meat eaters who go out of their way to make the fact they eat meat their entire personality and bash people for having different eating habits than they do.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Yep. I once had someone stick a plate of meat in front of me and push my face into it. I can't imagine a vegan ever doing something like that.

by NefariousnessNew6644 1 month ago

Vegans are such a miniscule amount of the population. I doubt you're running into vegans all the much away from the internet.

by Necessary-Star-7703 1 month ago

I know a fair amount actually. Luckily they're not preachy about it

by Beneficial_Buy 1 month ago

Yeah that's what I mean. Vegans always get the "they're annoying" wrap, and I just don't see it in real life all that much. There are the few, but every group has the annoying loud mouths

by Necessary-Star-7703 1 month ago

Made a lovely portobello mushroom dish with sides of spiced potatoes with my boyfriend, we only realized the entire meal was vegan after we ate it. Also went to a vegan restaurant once that had the best food, but unfortunately it's closed.

by Qvolkman 1 month ago

If I had to pick a favorite food, the versatility of potato takes the win.

by Additional-Sign3699 1 month ago

Meat is a hard habit to break especially if you've been eating it your whole life, so I think the point of emulating meat is to satisfy the craving without actually consuming an animal. It isn't a 1:1 replacement, so if you eat meat daily and then eat a vegan burger expecting it to taste like a steakhouse's burger, it's absolutely going to taste "off" to you. Lol. I'm pro bloody steak though so don't @ me.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I take my stakes rate too; always rolled in at least two vegetables and one mineral before cooking: garlic, salt and pepper.

by Additional-Sign3699 1 month ago

This is stupid. Baked vegan goods are delicious you just can't bake or don't have good bakeries nearby. Vegan Treats in Bethlehem Pennsylvania have the best baked goods I've ever had, period.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

What, you don't like ultraprocessed foods that are loaded with chemicals and sodium?

by Illustrious_Idea2947 1 month ago

I love "ultra processed." What's a vegan product you know that's ultra processed and loaded with chemicals and how does it differ from a non-vegan processed food?

by Necessary-Star-7703 1 month ago

The problem with vegan food is that there is not enough protein. So you make seitan because vital wheat gluten is packed with protein, but it's kinda bland and terrible tasting.

by Previous-Frame 1 month ago

It's being made wrong then. Just like any other food

by Necessary-Star-7703 1 month ago

There's also the whole being judged as a horrible person for not being vegan thing. I love vegetarian recipes as long as they aren't trying to be meat. I never understood faking it.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Honestly, I think it comes down to hating vegans. We ALL have encountered THAT who's wildly self important and just the biggest asshole ever. Prob several times actually

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I don't need my food to contain meat, I just need it to not have an ideology

by watsicahans 1 month ago

I think most people just hate vegans.. the food ain't bad when I was heavily training I used to love vegan sausages because you can just eat them raw straight out the packet and they're packed with protein. So I used to get a pack at the supermarket across from my gym… I've never met a vegetarian that protested at restaurants etc. It's literally just vegans… people hate them because speaking for the most visible vegans but not all it's not enough for them to make their choice they want to make yours too. Which polarizes them against others who really just want to be left alone to live their life in peace.

by Jealous_Economics609 1 month ago

How often do you talk to a vegan (let alone a militant one) in your daily life (away from the internet)?

by Necessary-Star-7703 1 month ago

Got 3 in the family (not militant) and I know two others it is why I made the distinction… vegans aren't bad people by default but there are some obnoxious ones that make being obnoxiously vegan their entire personality. And I would wager almost any negative attitude toward the food is likely an extension of the general dislike for those people… which was my point.

by Jealous_Economics609 1 month ago

I've met plenty of people who actually do hate vegan meals, because they rarely cook or order food that doesn't contain some combo of animal fat for cooking, cheese, egg, and/or dairy cream of some kind. Vegans can be absolutely obnoxious and I think it actually convinces people to not try things like almond milk in their latte, cashew cheese, creamy sauces not based on milk fat, etc. I don't believe things like what I just listed are perfect replacements, to be clear, but I do think they work in similar contexts when you don't try to compare them. I'm not vegan and have no intention on becoming vegan. But I do think there's plenty of people with some bias against actually vegan food.
