-24 If Gypsy Rose can be free so should the Menéndez Brothers, amirite?

"The system" is not a precision machine. Each case is individual and sometimes the jury and judges may be wrong (I'm not saying they were in her case, but maybe)… On the other hand, you don't know what really happened in the Menedez home and what "extreme abuse" the brothers suffered from, decades ago.

By letting her out of jail, the system is saying it's okay to kill if warranted eg. extreme abuse. I'm really glad not everyone can be a lawyer.

You just summed up my feelings exactly.

Besides first degree vs second degree murder… the Menendez brothers have had a much harder time proving the abuse they faced.

Whatever is right and wrong aside, and without getting into the actual convictions, remember that these crimes took place in different States. The term "United States" refers to the fact that each State in the USA has an independent government with its own laws and legal systems. Yes, they are all very, very similar. But they are not identical, and it's often in these most extreme crimes that the differences show up. Even then, juries and judges in most cases have huge leeway in what they convict and sentences they give. It's easy for us to watch the highlights of the case on TV and think we know best, but in the courtroom, facts and details the rest of us never pay attention to end up playing a huge role in the final outcomes.

If Gypsy is free so should the mentally challenged kid she manipulated into the killing.

by PrimaryWeakness3989 1 month ago

This! He was clearly mentally ill and she manipulated tf out of him.

Surprise surprise the girl who was raised by a woman who literally manipulated hundreds of people into giving her money, houses, trips etc has a talent for manipulation

And she's making fat cash off it all. She's even appeared in the Kardashians. It's disgusting.

Second Degree Murder and First Degree Murder carry very different sentences. How is that hard to fathom?

The biggest difference here is Gypsy didn't actually kill her mother. The brothers killed their parents. Things were a bit more concise and documented with her, whereas the brothers abuse was not as clear cut, so it's hard to definitively say what the true extent was. They were all culpable to some extent, but yeah Gypsy definitely got off easier.

My best friend advised me not to watch the documentary because it would trigger me and she said it was one of the worst things she ever watched.

Is ought fallacy

Yeah, I basically agree. If you go deep into their story they didn't deserve life. Like I'm not going to get into how dumb they were after the murders but keep in mind emotions. Everyone handles things differently.
